Anyway, there's nothing ironic about Planned Parenthood providing abortion services for unplanned pregnancies.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 01:50 PM) Broad statistical generalization not found in evidence. "Republican argument" = "blatant lie"

I'm even more sure I've never made that argument!

I'm pretty sure our government is irreparably broken.

QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 01:08 PM) I'm not certain this is a free speech case. I believe this is more there isn't a law, just like their insn't a law allowing someone to be wearing an ugly tie in public. Basically the government has done this in many ways. It is legal for a private club to set their own membership standards, but the government can pull certain tax benefits and not host events at your club, etc. Government policy changes were brought about after the ACLU filed suit against the BSA on first amendment grounds. Perhaps if the BSA dropped its discriminatory policies it wouldn't be an issue, but then my gay-atheist brother being an Eagle Scout wouldn't be so ironic. None of that has anything to do with Balta's question regarding PP, though.

QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 12:53 PM) Same law that eliminated public money and accomodations to the Boy Scouts. the first amendment?

QUOTE (tonyho7476 @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 11:46 AM) But doesn't improved eye sight help with pitch recognition? Reading Canseco's book opened my eyes as to how much steroids help a person. You certainly need talent, but roids can take you to a whole new level. All these guys numbers don't really mean much anymore. Canseco's writing from personal opinion, which is hugely subjective and vulnerable to placebo effect. There's a reason why medical trials are run double-blind and don't just rely on how a patient feels.

That seems bulls*** on it's face*, but I can't find anything covering the story that isn't that redstate article cross-linked somewhere else. Here's the decision: http://www.cadc.uscourts.gov/internet/opin...121-1301663.pdf It seems it amounts to a disagreement with the NLRB's interpretation of existing law. If the judges here are correct and the NLRB is wrong, the law should probably be changed. edit* not the story or the claim, but the fine for reporting a safety violation. Also that article mis-characterizes the decision; it was a grant for review, I don't think it actually overturned the NLRB's finding.

Good illustration of why Democrats can be just as terrible as Republicans!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 01:36 PM) The budget deal will remove Grey Wolves from the endangered species list, for some reason. Of course, this means that after a few years of "Defending the livestock", the wolves will be back on the endangered species list. To expand on another part of that article about for-profit colleges, The Post Company (parent company of The Washington Post and Kaplan) relies on government-provided student loans for 1/3 of its revenue and 90% of Kaplan's revenue. No wonder they're fighting so hard to get the "Gainful Employment" provisions stripped out.

Jesus christ the comments on that article...

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 10:28 PM) Ken Burns' series The Civil War has been airing on PBS this week. Probably one of the best documentary series' ever made. It's also on Netflix

Isn't it the case that the Pentagon's books are in such poor order that there's no way to keep track of anything?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2011 -> 09:27 PM) Which state was it where there was a bag of votes found in a Democrats's car last time out? None, turns out that story was completely fabricated. But I'm sure it's still the Truth in right-wing bloggerland.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 07:26 PM) The thing is we have no idea when he started. It could have been all along, it could have just been at the end when he went down hill. Now it brings everything into question. I understand that, but I could take all the roids in the world and still not make it even to AA level. They can augment talent, but they're not a replacement for it. Even if he's roiding since HS, he still has a bunch of natural talent behind it.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 04:52 PM) NO way to know. He's a cheat who didn't give a s*** and kept on cheatin' on... forget about him. He's a POS who could swing a bat and made millions doing it. Nothing more, nothing less, and definitely not HOF worthy. Don't get me wrong, glad to see the cheating SOB go and I'll be glad if he never makes it to Cooperstown. I just don't think juice can elevate you that much. Even if Manny had a little less power, he'd still have been a great hitter.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 04:47 PM) He might have been remembered as "AAA ballplayer #2740865" if it weren't for the juice. I dunno, I think it's a stretch to say that 'roids will move you from AAA to first-ballot HOF.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 04:41 PM) Pretty sure J4L liked the Vazquez trade so I don't know where that is going. I really wish the search function worked here.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 04:36 PM) Strangesox, lol Okay that makes a lot more sense, it caught me off guard because J4L quoted it like it was a serious statement and that it was actually a good argument. I generally do take comments like that as humorous. I really did hate Vazquez, though.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 04:31 PM) Until the moment that Jackson was acquired by the Sox, you could say the same thing about Jackson. Yeah but "Coop'll fix 'em!" vs. "giant baby who wets his pants in every big game he's ever pitched"
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 04:27 PM) But you guys are 100% right, because Ive missed 1 time in the 9+ years Ive been on this site, my credibility is worthless. (I was poking fun at you because I thought you'd take it in good humor)
-
To be fair, anyone who defended Vazquez instantly loses all credibility.

While the majority of people currently seem to think government spending needs to be cut and that the size of government should shrink, not everyone feels that way. There are plenty of people who either say current budget deficit problems in the middle of a bad recession are overblown and can be fixed by simple GDP growth or that the funding gap should be fixed by changes in the tax code to eliminate subsidies for and raise taxes on the super wealthy. Instead the focus from both sides is a various mix of cutting a bunch of social programs for the poor, cutting environmental funding, cutting science funding, cutting education and maintaining or increasing subsidies for oil companies and enacting deep cuts in the estate tax. But the GOP and the newly elected congressmen in particular are being transparently terrible.
-
They also claim that 90% of what PP does is abortions, and it's referred to as the "Republican argument" instead of "blatantly false statements" by that dastardly liberal media.
-
My cynicism will reach new highs (lows?) if the tea party Republicans maintain or gain strength in 2012 after their performance thus far.
