  1. To be fair, anyone who defended Vazquez instantly loses all credibility.
  2. While the majority of people currently seem to think government spending needs to be cut and that the size of government should shrink, not everyone feels that way. There are plenty of people who either say current budget deficit problems in the middle of a bad recession are overblown and can be fixed by simple GDP growth or that the funding gap should be fixed by changes in the tax code to eliminate subsidies for and raise taxes on the super wealthy. Instead the focus from both sides is a various mix of cutting a bunch of social programs for the poor, cutting environmental funding, cutting science funding, cutting education and maintaining or increasing subsidies for oil companies and enacting deep cuts in the estate tax. But the GOP and the newly elected congressmen in particular are being transparently terrible.
  3. They also claim that 90% of what PP does is abortions, and it's referred to as the "Republican argument" instead of "blatantly false statements" by that dastardly liberal media.
  4. My cynicism will reach new highs (lows?) if the tea party Republicans maintain or gain strength in 2012 after their performance thus far.
  5. "Us against the world" seems to be pretty pervasive in Chicago sports.
  6. Undebatable argument for those who can't watch the video: look, this really is about jobs, becausethe sooner we get this bill defunding abortion passed, the sooner we can talk about jobs!
  7. Planned Parenthood at Center of Budget Shutdown Threat I like how they refer to it as the "Republican argument" instead of "blatant lie," unless it's a meta move to get "Republican argument" to be a synonym for "blatant lie".
  8. To be fair I have the same reaction whenever I hear [MSNBC talking head] ranting about the "KOCH BROTHERS!" in the same manner that Limbaugh etc. have ranted about Soros in the past. It's just that the Republicans are so much better at politics that their memes just end up as the default starting point.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 09:18 AM) I came back a much bigger fan of Billy Joel, and a little disappointed in Elton. His voice wasn't anywhere near what it used to be. But the show was excellent. My brother's been going to Elton shows for years and has said similar things.
  10. HIDE THE DECLINE!~!
  11. Republican sticking points on passing a budget are defunding Planned Parenthood, the EPA and financial regulations. Glad they've got their priorities straightened out.
  12. Potentially huge physics discovery of a new particle at Fermilab more sciency summary
  13. Glad I picked up the audio feed! nice double by Rios.
  14. caved in and bought gameday audio again this year.
  15. Sure, CFL's weren't $0.50 a piece a few years ago either.
  16. Sure, institutionalized racism doesn't just apply to jobs.
  17. Those LED's are ridiculously expensive. I was looking at $90 for one light fixture's worth for dimmable ones. I decided not to bother since I rarely use that light. CFL's, on the other hand, are now $2/4 pack at Home Depot thanks to Com Ed subsidies. I still don't understand why ComEd and Nicor subsidize higher efficiencies since it means you'll use less energy.
  18. I'm sure if I dug around enough I could find enrollment rates by area of study. The data I've seen only specifies level of education. Even at non-HS or HS graduate levels, minority unemployment is significantly higher. I would be surprised if minorities were so severely overrepresented in 'less demand' fields of higher education that it resulted in 100% increase in unemployment, though. BTW, Y2HH is the WORST poster on the internets.
  19. Nah, the republicans have ideas--just look at Ryan's budget proposal. But like Y2HH paraphrased, they're just bad ideas.
  20. I do not underestimate democrat incompetence or republican stupidity.
  21. Potential government shutdown could ruin my trip to the Everglades in early May!
  22. Haha gameday had the runner advancing to 2nd on "defensive indifference"
  23. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 03:50 PM) I told you all. Y2HH rules and deserves awards. Ban Y2HH.
