  1. What more do you want? It's all over the press and the internet.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 28, 2008 -> 10:39 AM) The point is, the MSM already DOES have a field day, because McCain has had just as many gaffes. To focus on those things, for either candidate, is pointless. Its one of the reasons why we end up with such lousy politicians so often, in my view. People focus on the irrelevant little things, and ignore the bigger, more important, but also more complex things. And what the heck is #4 about anyway? I see dead people? Did I miss something? Awkward phrasing is all. "..”On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes — and I see many of them in the audience here today — our sense of patriotism is particularly strong”…" McCain didn't know Sunni vs. Shi'ite. Cheney claimed to have seen rows of crosses while flying over Arlington. Reagan claimed to have liberated two concentration camps himself. They all make mistakes while speaking publicly. None of the things CK listed really matter in the grand scheme of things. They're just a few miss-statements out of hundreds of hours of public speaking.
  3. QUOTE (SpringfieldFan @ May 28, 2008 -> 06:24 AM) It helps a bit that we can expect CQ to be on the team at least as a reserve. However, these days, that is not completely reassuring, either. The last few years we have seen an increased trend of reserves not even getting in the game, likely because of the WS home field implications of actually winning the game. Managers can't just empty the benches anymore to give every all star his due exposure. In fact, if memory serves, last year I believe a team had a lone representative who didn't get in, giving that team zero representation. How nice for their fans... SFF What manager wouldn't want to put Quentin in over a guy who got in on popularity alone, though?
  4. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ May 27, 2008 -> 09:14 PM) I agree, I mean he's played for Ozzie for less than 2 months. But it also depends on the context. Go tell your boss how much better this other guy you used to work for was. See how happy he is.
  5. QUOTE (JFields27 @ May 27, 2008 -> 08:09 PM) if the runner crosses the plate before the out is made it counts in those situations Yeah, but they would have had the runner before home plate was crossed.
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 27, 2008 -> 03:34 PM) LINK ...he still wasn't at Auschwitz. Its a meaningless gaffe, but a gaffe nonetheless.
  7. Investigators, sure, but GI's? Probably not. I'm thinking Obama just gaffed on the camp's name on this one.
  8. That article says that the 4th was ordered to tour a different camp, not Auschwitz. I'm really doubting that US Soldiers were allowed into Soviet territory.
  9. QUOTE (ptatc @ May 27, 2008 -> 01:00 PM) Probably, just another thing to watch with him. Some of the poor swings are due to the wrist/thumb. If he begins a swing, it will really hurt to check it. I'm sure he just let's the swing go due to the pain. This may account for many awful looking swings. He has said it is affecting his pitch selection at the plate.
  10. QUOTE (quickman @ May 27, 2008 -> 12:09 PM) sounds like paulie could use 8 weeks off. Put him down now and see him after the all star break. Go get freel, stick him in the leadoff spot, hit cabera second likes he wants and move AJ down to hit for more power to compensate for konerko. Andersen will man center field and bat ninth. He's batting better than a lot of the gaping holes in our lineup. It sounds like its time for the DL for Paulie.
  11. This page has a video of Obama speaking at the same location. At 5:14, he talks about his uncle. It's hard to hear over the wind, but the exact quote seems to be: "I had an uncle who was one of the first American troops to go into Auschwitz [...]" http://hotair.com/archives/2008/05/27/obam...ated-auschwitz/ Now, he doesn't say they liberated it, just that they went into Auschwitz, so he's being misquoted there and then its distorting into more ridiculous statements in all the fantastic blogs out there. Were any American troops ever there after the Soviets liberated it?

    Films Thread

Saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull on Saturday. It was entertaining, but the last act didn't really have the feel of an Indy movie for me. I can't wait for The Dark Knight. That movie is going to kick all sorts of ass.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2008 -> 07:12 PM) Here's an idea....maybe our manager shouldn't complain publically in the press about umpires during the first week? Here's another idea... maybe the umpires should a) learn the strike zone B ) be professional and fair and not hold Ozzie's comments from several weeks ago against him.
  14. It seems like the Sox have had to deal with quite a few inconsistent (bad) umpiring jobs this year. That pitch wasn't even close.
  15. QUOTE (PlunketChris @ May 26, 2008 -> 05:10 PM) just tuned in.. how'd we score? First three batters got a hit. Dye K's, Thome grounds to 1st and the run scores. PK flys outs.
  16. QUOTE (Bhay99 @ May 26, 2008 -> 05:07 PM) That wasn't a strike, but you got to be protective with 2 strikes there It didn't even look close, though. You shouldn't need to protect a pitch that's several inches outside.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2008 -> 05:06 PM) Terrible AB for Dye...need Thome to pick him up. Can you blame him for taking that 3rd "strike"?
  18. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 26, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) They changes their logo to honor the 50th anniversary of Sputnik! They did it to honor Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's birthday! On April 20 (420) they changed it to some sort of trippy-looking artwork. They have done MLK day and even Halloween. Last year after some bloggers made a stink about it, they did Veterans Day. This just seems like a curious omission. So what is it supposed to be saying? They do it for plenty of other "patriotic" holidays. As they've said, their logos are usually pretty light-hearted, and Memorial Day isn't exactly a light-hearted matter.
  19. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ May 25, 2008 -> 05:21 PM) Probably not. But I've explained the nickname before, and am happy to reiterate that I like women. Like I said, my suspicions about Quentin have more to do with other things than just the nickname. We'll likely never know whether or not Quentin or anyone else on the team is clean because the league and the players themselves aren't interested in cleaning up the name in theory and in practice, so I'm sorry I said anything at all. So then its fair to assume that everyone who does well in baseball is using some sort of PHD? That your suspicions have anything to do with a nickname based on his batting stance is just ridiculous.
  20. Manufactured outrage as far as I'm concerned. Google's response from previous years: "Thank you for your note. We understand your interest in seeing a Memorial Day Google logo. If we were to commemorate this holiday, we'd want to express reverence; however, as Google's special logos tend to be lighthearted in nature, this would be a particularly challenging design. We wouldn't want to create a graphic that could be interpreted as disrespectful in any way. We have a long list of holidays that we'd like to celebrate in the future. We have to balance this rotating calendar with the need to maintain the consistency of the Google homepage. We really appreciate your feedback regarding the Google logo, and please be assured that we're actively pursuing ways in which we can acknowledge Memorial Day and other such occasions in the future. Regards, The Google Team"
