Libby Verdict reached
I don't know about the pardon, it could potentially piss a lot of people off against the Republicans, and the '08 political season has started already, it seems. There would be a huge uproar if he was pardoned.

For GOP only
Maher's comments are worse, no doubt. However, Ann's comments just go right to the core of her debating intellect level: mean, hate-filled, juvenile insults. Here's a transcript of Maher's comments: http://newsbusters.org/node/11169 Maher: What about the people who got onto the Huffington Post – and these weren’t even the bloggers, these were just the comments section – who said they, they expressed regret that the attack on Dick Cheney failed. Joe Scarborough: Right. Maher: Now… John Ridley: More than regret. Maher: Well, what did they say? Ridley: They said “We wish he would die.” I mean, it was (?) hate language. Barney Frank: They said the bomb was wasted. (laughter and applause) Maher: That’s a funny joke. But, seriously, if this isn’t China, shouldn’t you be able to say that? Why did Arianna Huffington, my girlfriend, I love her, but why did she take that off right away? After some discussion about why Huffington should or shouldn’t have taken these comments down, the following occurred: Ridley: It’s one thing to say you hate Dick Cheney, which applies to his politics. It’s another thing to say, “I’m sorry he didn’t die in an explosion." And I think, you know… Maher: But you should be able to say it. And by the way... Frank: Excuse me, Bill, but can I ask you a question? Do you decide what the topics are for this show? Maher: Yeah, I decide the topics, they don’t go there. Frank: But you exercise control over the show the way that she does over her blog. Maher: But I have zero doubt that if Dick Cheney was not in power, people wouldn’t be dying needlessly tomorrow. (applause) Scarborough: If someone on this panel said that they wished that Dick Cheney had been blown up, and you didn’t say… Frank: I think he did. Scarborough: Okay. Did you say… Maher: No, no. I quoted that. Frank: You don’t believe that? Maher: I’m just saying if he did die, other people, more people would live. That’s a fact.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 01:46 PM) Well, I will admit, this is vastly more amusing and less annoying than the stupid attempted Clinton/Obama dust-up a week ago. E&P. Why does anyone pay attention to her? She just spouts off inflammatory crap to get attention/ book sales/ media time. She doesn't add anything to the debate and is just a huge b**** in general.

Too much sex a bad thing?
That's creepy. But, to answer your question, I don't think that there's such a thing as "too much sex"

Baseball Prospectus
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 01:26 PM) Sisco doesn't? He is a 6'10" lefty that consistently gets his fastball to the 95-97 area. He also has a very good curve. He has some control issues but his stuff is pretty damn good. You are in very good shape anytime you have 3 lefties with the potential of Gio, Danks, and Sisco. It seems as the Yankees always have big time prospects that get sent elsewhere and don't pan out, so I would be a bit leary of calling the Yankees minor league system very good. The Yankees and the media seem to talk up their prospects quite a bit. How do you know the Sox won't be able to buy an ace on the FA market? That sounds like a bunch of pessimism and "grass is always greener" attitude to me. You will probably use this great line by negative fans and pessimists that I love: "I bet they don't, but if they do I will be pleasantly surprised." Maybe their farm system isn't very good, but if they're able to trade over-inflated prospects for good players I think it works out for them.

There haven't really been too many cliffhangers lately because the plot has gone nowhere.

QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Mar 1, 2007 -> 09:47 AM) Lost is beginning to resemble so many of Stephen King's books. Great characters, great premise, and then somewhere along the way the story kind of fizzles and comes to an unfulfilling ending. I hope that doesn't happen here. Good analogy, hopefully it doesn't end up like that. Any of King's really long novels usually have an awesome story and great character development for about 3/4's of the book, and then he just seems to get bored with it and tacks on a cheesy ending. Lost is starting to get that feel. Last night's episode wasn't bad, but they really need something great before they throw us some filler material like this. If this had come after a few very good episodes, I'd have liked it much more. The previews for next week look very promising.

BP isn't staffed by idiots, but the overuse of statistics in baseball is pretty obvious with stuff like this. Too much changes from year to year for each individual player for these models to be anything more than entertainment.

Its looking like it, unfortunately. I haven't enjoyed an episode since before the break, and even those 6 weren't that great.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 28, 2007 -> 10:29 PM) I missed the last 5 minutes tonight. Can some one send me a message telling me what happened? Spoiler: (details in white font) They push-start the car and get it running. Everyone seems "uplifted by it." Jin gives Sun a flower. Flash to Kate in the jungle, Locke and Sayid find her. They're following a compass heading based on the way light reflected off of Eko's "jesus stick" when he was being buried. Kate came looking for Roussou and convinces her to help them find the Other's settlement. Overall, it was an ok episode, but definitely a "filler." Entertaining, but it didn't really advance the story much. I won't even start on how it would be nearly (if not entirely) impossible for that van to actually start up.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 08:47 PM) I would say last night's Special Comment was particularly good. (my favorite part is the Marshall plan stuff) Wow, he really ripped into her. It could have been done more professionally and his point would be better-received, though. Sometimes politicians manage to amaze me with the stupidity of the rhetoric that comes out of their mouths.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 28, 2007 -> 02:00 PM) That is a falsehood. The writers have plans for this show for seven seasons worth of episodes according to what I have read. This show is way too complex to just throw together week to week, or even season to season. The frame of these episodes has been figured out for years in advance. They have said the show will go 4 or, at the absolute, very most, 5 seasons. They don't want it to end up like the X-Files. And they keep claiming that they have these grand ideas, but it isn't adding up right now. I'm still willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I wouldn't be shocked if the ending winds up seeming patched together.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 03:16 PM) So, what does that mean (I know what a drop means, but I'm thinking more globally and more big picture)? Is this a blip or the start of a trend? From what I've read, probably just a little, quick self-correction. The market was out pacing the economy.

The Al Gore discussion, split from GOP/DEM
FWIW, renewable energy and other forms of non-fossil fuel energy cost significantly more per kWh than energy from a coal or natural gas plant. So, really, you'd need to compare the total energy usage (not $ amount) and where that energy is coming from.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 11:30 AM) It's sad when great ideas get discredited or bad ideas get credited based on who says them. But I guess that is our society, get the best spokes models and you have a winner. Style over sustenance. There's no more common a logical fallacy in modern rhetoric than the ad hominem. "Mr. X says Y! But Mr. X also does Z bad thing! Therefore, Y is also bad!"

I'm just glad to see Babel get mostly shut out. That movie sucked big time. Departed was great, though. Deserving of the win, I think.
