The President of the United States passing on US allies' classified info to Russian diplomats suspected of being spies in a closed door meeting in which they've failed to disclose the attendance of one of the Russians multiple times. Possibly just because he's such a pathetic person that he felt the need to brag and try to show off. What a crazy timeline we've ended up on.
-
https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/nation...3&tid=sm_tw This wasn't even US-generated intel, so this is going to seriously piss off our allies. They're going to be so much more reluctant to share information with us, and this seriously compromises our national security as a result. The worst part is that this behavior, whether it's deliberate leaking or just sheer incompetence, was completely 100% predictable from Trump.

Well somebody's doing the leaking!

If you want to get out and do some hiking, some of the stops along the Columbia River Gorge mentioned above are good, and Mt. Hood isn't too far away either. If you're driving between Portland and Seattle and depending on how much you like outdoors stuff, Mt. St Helens would be worth a detour. Didn't really have a sense of the scale of destruction until I saw it in person, and that' still 30+ years later. Really amazing. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 15, 2017 -> 09:57 AM) We went to Voodoo (a friend woke up really early and brought back a dozen for the group). They were good but nothing special (except for the Maple Bacon Bar - drooling just thinking of it). Blue Star looked good but didn't go there. If you every end up in the Alberta Arts District, this place was amazing. Yeah we had heard Voodoo was kinda gimmicky. Blue Star is more "artisan" donuts but man they were amazing. Line down the block before they even opened when we went there.

Blue Star Donuts in Portland was really good

Yeah too bad our federal government structure favors rural conservatives for House Senate and President

We're in good, competent hands now!

I know arguing with greg is pointless, but I'd like to submit another piece of evidence for consideration that Trump is, in fact, literally human garbage: In the 1980's, he took out a full-page ad in the NYT calling for the execution of the Central Park Five. This group of teens was bullied and pressured by the police into giving false, contradictory confessions and were sentenced to decades in prison. Trump is credited with helping to drive the media and popular furor over this group. In 2002, a confession from the actual perpetrator and DNA testing exonerated all five and they've since been released. Ken Burns even made a documentary on it. Trump stood by his call for their execution and rejected their being released in October 2016. Literal human garbage is too kind, honestly.

Contrast this with years of conservative rage targeted at Michelle Obama's healthy lunch and youth exercise programs, and also against our own President who had a "bring me a coke" button installed in the Oval Office and believes exercise is harmful.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ May 12, 2017 -> 02:23 PM) That's Obama, not Trump. edit: OIC. Just to show the capability exists. Yeah, see that's what I thought. I thought I had read Presidents record some convos to preserve important moments for future libraries. yeah shouldn't have said "proof" there, more like what you're saying
-
Ranking Democrats on the House Oversight and Judiciary committees have requested from the White House any relevant audio recordings

Proof Trump records WH convos? https://twitter.com/pbump/status/863105260927188992

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ May 12, 2017 -> 01:52 PM) The child-like speech isn't merely a perception. People have analyzed him with the Flesch–Kincaid readability test and found that he's usually around the 3rd-4th grade level. Most politicians speak around a middle-school level. That's an objective measure. He talks in a bizarrely simple way. Everything is great/tremendous or horrible/a disaster. He frequently references "things" and "stuff". What did he say during the debates that made him look intelligent, in your opinion? QUOTE (greg775 @ May 12, 2017 -> 01:53 PM) And yet you obviously see NOTHING wrong in calling our President a "human piece of garbage." Man. I guess it's OK cause it's not a stupid nickname. Then I'd like to ask you to never again call our U.S. president a human piece of garbage, at least until after he's removed from office. And you didn't answer my question: would I have been banned if I called Ms. Clinton that name?? Trump is literally human garbage and deserves as much respect for himself or the office as he's ever shown. Besides, greg, I thought you were happy to see "PC" culture die and for people to "tell it like it is"?

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ May 12, 2017 -> 01:47 PM) Not sure if you're trying to be funny here, but they are. They are geniuses in the social media game. They have no other discernible skills yet they've created an empire. There's some intelligence there too, even if they say/do/think grade level stuff. Yeah I guess we're all pretty clearly differentiating between "having a skill that makes you a lot of money" and actually being an 'intelligent' person. A discussion over what 'intelligent' actually means and how you can evaluate it could be interesting, but generally we're talking about the ability to read and understand things, think things through multiple steps, envision and imagine complex scenarios and patterns, etc. The Kardashians and Trump are a hell of a lot richer than Einstein was or Stephen Hawking is, but I think we'd all agree that the latter two are much, much more intelligent people.

why did I bother responding
-
QUOTE (Tony @ May 12, 2017 -> 01:37 PM) Greg, why do you messaure intelligence by worth? This is another important point imo. Assuming that wealth means you're smart is a pretty toxic mindset, and it often leads to the inverse mindset (poor=dumb or bad or lazy etc>) too.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2017 -> 01:36 PM) Understanding how to read and work people isn't an easy trait. This is absolutely his strongest trait, and it's why he's President.
-
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ May 12, 2017 -> 01:35 PM) Alright, I agree that Trump is not smart. I agree that he was provided a huge head start. But taking a few million and some connections and making an empire worth, even conservatively, several BILLION, is still SOMETHING. I'm sure a lot of us got money from our parents for school or in cash and we're not multi-millionaires. He was born a multimillionaire with amazing connections. He's gone bankrupt many times. He regularly screws over contractors and business partners. Crimson isn't lying or exaggerating when he says US financiers haven't wanted anything to do with him in a long, long time. He's built most of his empire on selling his name to things and his reality TV show. He's a fantastic showman. He won the election in a tide of personality and resentment towards Clinton. What has he done, especially since descending the escalator in 2015, that demonstrates intelligence?
-
greg, I'd just ask you to go and read the transcript from essentially any one-on-one interview Trump has conducted in the last year. Compare it to transcripts of Obama, Bush, or B. Clinton interviews. Then come back and tell us if you still think Trump is an intelligent man. Trump made most of his money as a reality TV show host and through selling his brand, not through big development deals--those failed spectacularly as often as they succeeded. He's an excellent carnival barker/showman/conman.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ May 12, 2017 -> 01:05 PM) I thought all meetings in the oval are recorded? No. Some were between the advent of recording tech (20's or 30's maybe?) and Nixon, but nobody wants to self-incriminate the way Nixon did.
