Listen, he was a candidate then, that doesn't count. It also doesn't count when he said just a couple of weeks ago that he had confidence in Comey despite considering firing him since day 1. bmags really said it best. This was just an impulsive move by Trump, and now the rest of his administration and the GOP in Congress are left scrambling to try to explain why actually this a good thing.

They allegedly fired him entirely because of his conduct re: Clinton and being "too harsh" on her. They haven't received any new information whatsoever on this. It's such a transparently dumb and unbelievable excuse.

Lots of lying and dissembling from the White House. Now claiming they lost confidence in Comey from "day 1" despite Trump himself recently saying he still had confidence and Spicer saying last week he had the "full confidence" of the President. And it's totally okay that Trump praised Comey's actions during the campaign because, hey, he was a candidate then! No responsibility to maintain any semblance of ethics or norms, I guess.

Calling up dem Senators and telling them you're going to purge the FBI that's actively investigating your campaign probably isn't the smartest move and to think I was thinking on Monday afternoon "well, things seem to have settled down a bit from the absolutely insane pace they've been running at since 1/20"

For some reason, the Russian Ambassador Kislyak was at Trump's closed door meeting with Russian FM Lavrov, but he wasn't even mentioned in the White House's readout of the meeting. Kislyak is the guy at the center of the Flynn story who's long been suspected of being a spy.
