QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 10, 2016 -> 10:32 AM) Trump Supporter Punches Protester In Face At North Carolina Rally John McGraw, who sucker-punched protester at N.C. Donald Trump rally, hints at more violence: ‘Next time, we might have to kill him!’ he did get charged with assault, at least

Here's the relevant Illinois tax code: ftp://www.ilga.gov/JCAR/AdminCode/086/086001300C03110R.html I'm guessing this bill is to modify section c) 3), which lists items that are not considered "grooming and hygiene products" and qualify for the reduced tax rate of 1% versus the general 6.5%? I don't know about calling it discriminatory but it seems like a pretty trivial tax code matter and not particularly ludicrous?

QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 10, 2016 -> 09:56 AM) I would have lobster rolls coming out of my ears after that trip. Yeah, did a work trip out this same way two summers ago. Never ate better in my life. Grew up in Lockport, lived in Woodridge after college, moved to Homer about 6 weeks ago.

Combining a work trip into a long weekend in Boston and coastal Maine in a couple of weeks. Not the best season for it, but it lines up with my wife's spring break. Mainly looking to eat lots and lots of seafood.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Mar 9, 2016 -> 01:32 PM) Don't read the comments on that page. All possible pieces of evidence are evidence in favor a massive government conspiracy to ambush and kill LeVoy Finicum.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 9, 2016 -> 09:28 AM) Is it really a surprise to people that Cruz is the farthest right of anybody ever to run? It's been pretty obvious to me. It shouldn't be, but Trump's bombastic nationalism is providing at least a little cover for Cruz's radicalism. I'd imagine most people who aren't politically engaged enough to waste time posting about it on message boards really aren't all that familiar with Cruz at this point, though that would definitely change heading into the general if he were the nominee.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 9, 2016 -> 09:23 AM) It still makes me laugh that people honestly believed guys like McCain and Romney were radical right wingers. McCain and more so Romney ran on platforms that were right-wing compared to say Rockefeller Republicans of the 60's and 70's but are pretty standard for the modern right-wing dominated GOP. As the article notes, Cruz is much further to the right of either of them. I linked it because I liked the part imagining when an equivalent left-wing version of Cruz would need to look like.

Surprising win by Sanders last night in Michigan, outperforming the handful of polls by 20 points. We'll have to see how much this holds up in the rest of the rust belt states, and as Clinton learned in 2008, winning states isn't as important as winning delegates and he still has a long battle for that.

I don't think that the Democratic party has really turned their guns on trump yet?

Senator Holds Up Aid For Flint Because Residents ‘Have All The Government Resources They Need’ Sen. Mike Lee lobbied for relief funds for Utah when flooding hit his state, and he's personally had hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt forgiven by a bank after a short sale.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 8, 2016 -> 03:30 PM) To the attorneys on here ... how is Hillary not in jail over this latest report by the Washington Post? https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/cli...e7df_story.html This is no partisan witch hunt folks. Get used to Bernie time. For Bernie is waiting in the wings if jail comes calling http://www.investors.com/politics/editoria...e-just-blew-up/ p.s. Please read the last part of the article ... It says, "Under the law, gross negligence in handling classified material is all that’s required for a government official to face criminal charges. At this point, is there anyone who can honestly say that Clinton wasn’t being grossly negligent?" I ask you: I know some want Hillary to be president as part of a lifetime achievement award. They want her in there because she it's her turn. But at some point in most baseball seasons when you realize your team is not good enough to win, you finally give up. Why can't America "give up" on Hillary and realize what she did was criminal? If somebody does what she did she must pay. All I ask is she be prosecuted like anybody else in government who does what she did. please stop linking to garbage sites like Investors Business Daily in this thread thanks in advance!

A significant part of the wealth disparity is due to 20th century housing policies, both public and private. Post-WW2, the federal government was subsidizing home ownership like crazy, leading to the big suburban boom. Of course, these programs were pretty much exclusively limited to white people thanks to government and private discrimination. Redlining prevented any chance of investment and growth of wealth in black communities. To this day, lenders still have settlements over racist lending policies, typically by pushing minorities borrowers into higher cost loans even when they qualify for better terms. Several big banks have had settlements in recent years, and Toyota just had a big settlement last month over car loans.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 8, 2016 -> 08:06 AM) That's exactly it. The award isn't about what Andrews deserves, it is about what would make large firms put some better controls in place. And reading about the case, the hotel did some pretty stupid stuff. And reading some more, the $55M was joint and severable liability, split 49/51 between the local Marriott owner and operator companies and the stalker. I doubt the stalker has $28M, so she'll likely only ever see $26M from the owner and operator companies. edit: if the incident had happened after Tennessee's tort reform law from 2011, though, damages would be capped at $750k.

The latest polls have Rubio behind by 16 points on average, and if some of his own advisers are pressuring him to drop out, his internal polling must be showing them the same thing. The latest polls out of Ohio show Kasich with a much better shot, though.

Anyone know a good source on the differences between Zopp and Duckworth and how each might fair in the general? I think that's really the only thing on my primary ballot I'm undecided on.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 8, 2016 -> 09:40 AM) Really? I would have thought it was more like 50% Rubio there. Less religious than rural and downstate voters who might prefer a conservative evangelical like Cruz, but still plenty of working class white suburbanites drawn into Trump's racial nationalism.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 8, 2016 -> 09:37 AM) Can't tell you how gobsmacked I was seeing Trump in the lead in Illinois. What's worse, his biggest stronghold was the suburbs. That's the least surprising part to me. IIRC you just walk up and ask for the appropriate ballot. Illinois has an open primary system.

Rubio is facing pressure within his own campaign to drop out before the Florida primary. Some polls have him down by 20 points to Trump, and they argue that this campaign is a lost cause and bowing out now is less damaging to his political future.

And reading about the case, the hotel did some pretty stupid stuff. It's similar to the McDonald's coffee case in that regard, and just like that case, I'd imagine that there's a negotiated settlement for an undisclosed amount before they get through the appeals process.
