Republican governor of Nevada Brian Sandoval being considered for Supreme Court
-
Hillary doesn't exactly get flustered by bloviating idiots.
-
Per the Matty Y link I posted a couple pages back, I don't really agree that Rubio is just a "run of the mill candidate." He seems like a dope, but his positions are every bit as reactionary as Cruz's both domestic and foreign.
-
Even if Trump maintains his 30-35% levels, he's already on his path to securing enough delegates before the election.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 01:51 PM) Well, yes that's probably not word for word in Rubios mouth. He's just taken the subtext and made it text. I think there is some difference though, how many white supremacist and neo-nazi organizations were openly and proudly endorsing past GOP candidates? Bernie has some leftist supporters that see things almost exclusively through a class lens and tend to discount racial or gender struggles, claiming it's all really a part of class warfare.

I guess my question would be: do VP picks ever really help? A poor pick can definitely hurt, but I don't know how many people would be swayed to vote for someone because of their VP.
-
I can't imagine anyone would care, the biggest response would be "who?"
-
I think in a scenario like that, you also need to be extra cautious about potentially taking advantage of the situation. I don't just mean deliberately, but like KyYlE said, you're probably going to be put into the "savior" role whether you want it or not. If you're her escape from a legitimately abusive family situation, that gives you a lot of power in the relationship.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 11:06 AM) Look, I've done nothing but rip on Trump. Two days ago I watched him on TV and it was the first time where for 30 straight minutes I didn't roll my eyes once. If he dominates super tuesday, I think everyone is going to see a pivot in Trump. We (and I've done nothing but rip him so I'm included in the "we") might have all underestimated him. Personally, I'm hoping Cruz bombs out and that it happens fast. Longer everyone stays in, more likely Trump just keeps winning state after state, which will ultimately secure his place as the republican nominee. I've heard him in 5-10 minuet snippets over the last couple of weeks. It's always just been some sort of a stream-of-consciousness rant that makes no sense. I'm not underestimating his political chances especially for the nomination, but I really don't see how he can keep being Trump while trying to moderate his message. His popularity is based on his radical reactionary messaging.
-
He's running on a campaign of white nationalist populism so far. You can't really "moderate" on that.
-
They weren't facing an actual event, and that's not really responsive to what I asked.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 10:29 AM) This is a whole lot of hilarious non-information. I love it. BREAKING NEWS: The Bears will either re-sign Alshon, franchise him, or let him go. They also will or will not meet with him at some point in the future to discuss these options.

Kasich is pretty solidly behind Trump in the latest poll from Quinnapac of Ohio. If he can't even win his home state, he really should pack it in.

Barack Obama published a statement on SCOTUSBlog.

QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 23, 2016 -> 11:53 AM) well the obvious places like seeing Old San Juan and El Morro were very cool. Being that you are going for a bachelor party it may not be the same type of trip that I took with my wife. LOL The El Yunque rainforest was awesome. Drive up to the almost the top of the mountain and hike the La Mina trail to get to the La Mina waterfall. It is about a half hour drive and about a 45 minute hike but its worth it to swim in the falls. That was my favorite part of the trip. If you do anything outside of partying that is a must do. Also eat a Kan Kan pork chop with some mofungo at Raices in Old San Juan. It is great. If you have time also hit up one of the biobays, but again you probably arent going to be looking for stuff like that doing the bachelor party. El Morro is awesome. If you're there on a nice Sunday, you'll see hundreds of people flying kites on the lawn leading up to it. I'd recommend La Bombonera for breakfast, but I was disappointed to find out a month ago that they closed permanently. Lots of places have mallorca breakfast sandwiches, though, so definitely find somewhere to try one. Not everyone loves mofungo (big ball of mashed and fried plantains served with delicious meats/seafood/vegetables), but I thought it was delicious. I haven't done the Bacardi tour, but my wife, mom and mother-in-law did and didn't think it was worth the trip. Maybe on a bachelor party it'd be more fun, though. El Yunque was pretty cool. Arecibo is about an hour west of San Juan. That's the huge radiotelescope that they used in both Contact and Goldeneye. It's a nice drive through the mountains, but not sure if it's really a bachelor party thing unless you've got some sciency nerds in the group (plus you'd need to rent a car). edit: this is appropriate for the winter weather thread because it makes us think of places that don't have crap weather

Senate Judiciary Republicans Vow No Hearing for Supreme Court Nominee edit: how long could this hypothetically go on before it would provoke some sort of Constitutional crisis? If let's say Clinton wins but the Republicans maintain control of the Senate, can they keep up this same line indefinitely? There's no mechanisms in place to force them to do anything, and if their base will reward obstruction or heavily punish any sort of compromise, there's not really any political pressure to act differently.

Rasmussen released their first post-Bush poll (ignore that it's HuffPo, it's just their poll aggregator) It looks like his supporters mainly split between Rubio and Kasich with some small percentage possibly going to Trump.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 23, 2016 -> 03:59 PM) To me this seems to suggest that she may have been under a lot of stress, and in situations like that it is possible that people do not accurately remember the events that took place. Not directly related to anything in this thread, but I watched this episode of NOVA last night: Memory Hackers The way our memory seems to work is pretty fascinating.

Hidden cameras, audio recorders, investigative journalism and strong opposition to PP all existed in the year 2000.
-
See, that's definitely the least plausible part. There's a PP clinic that routinely lies to women about false-positive pregnancy tests and attempts to pressure them into getting an abortion NOW? And somehow the best anti-PP activists can do are those terribly edited and misleading videos that don't actually show any wrongdoing when this sort of stuff is out there?
-
Regale us with some more definitely not completely made-up stories about the horrors of Planned Parenthood separate friends of yours experienced and shared with you.
-
I definitely believe that that actually happened. Twice.
-
I don't know who's pretending that PP is the only provider. They're often a major provider though, and the press release from Kasich's campaign is a bunch of obfuscating bulls***.
-
Speaking of Kasich, Kasich signs bill to defund Planned Parenthood

Why I'm more worried about Marco Rubio than Donald Trump
