But the counterpoint to that is that these "rough rides" have been known about for a while and in departments across the country. edit: a history of the 'Rough Ride'
-
because everyone seems to know that the right move is to get out of the top ten, who wants to give up picks to move up into it?
-
Amazingly, there is not an epidemic of broken spines for unbuckled passengers in major cities across the world, even in cities with much worse traffic and driving conditions. Tex, you do have a point that it might be hard to prove the driver's mindset to make something like a murder charge stick.
-
QUOTE (Tex @ May 1, 2015 -> 11:02 AM) Which is a point against the police. The difference being is a rough ride with sharp turns *could* be justified by road and traffic conditions. We all have had to make such maneuvers. If the prisoner is not secured properly that is either deliberate, careless, or due to a lack of training. All of which points against the police department and is less subjective and more objective. This isn't a high-speed drive through a war zone and rough terrain. It's driving a van on major city streets.

QUOTE (Jake @ May 1, 2015 -> 11:02 AM) Also, no probable cause for arrest. Hope she knows what she's doing as I'd been given the impression there was no argument as to whether there was probable cause for the arrest, legally speaking. From that David Simon interview I posted yesterday:
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 1, 2015 -> 10:50 AM) historically its the guys who are picked later than 10 who go on to become the top players. Are you accounting for the fact that's there's several hundred more picks after the top 10 than there are top 10 picks?
-
I would hope that position scarcity is some sort of multiplier in the teams' calculations.

If he's untrustworthy, he's untrustworthy. Doesn't matter if he's supporting the cops (allegedly) two days ago or he's saying they're full of s*** today.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 1, 2015 -> 08:43 AM) I tried to turn over a new leaf and be positive about this team...but they really don't want me to be positive. This is the most disappointed I've been in the Sox ... ever. I thought coming into this season we'd compete, not necessarily win the division, but compete. This isn't even that. I'm at a loss for words.

There's some double-counting there as well because laziness, e.g. Seattle from the 2015 superbowl's picks from 2014-2010 are all counted, Seattle from the 2014 superbowl's picks from 2013-2009 are all counted as well. Because I still don't feel like working, let me split those out. taking out the doubling up Overall, there were 94 picks. 43 Offensive, 51 Defensive Offense: 15 O-Line picks 3 Centers 3 Guards 9 Tackles 10 WR 8 RB 7 QB 3 TE Defense: 22 D-Line picks 8 DE 14 DT 21 Secondary Picks 7 Safeties 14 CB's 8 LB
-
Because I felt like doing literally anything else besides working this morning, for every superbowl winner and loser over the last 10 years I looked up the first draft pick the five years prior to their superbowl appearance. E.g. 2015 was Seattle vs New England and I looked at their draft picks 2014-2010. Not all of these were first rounders. Some years teams had multiple picks so I included all of those within the same round. Overall, there were 108 picks. 52 Offensive, 56 Defensive Offense: 18 O-Line picks 3 Centers 3 Guards 12 Tackles 11 WR 11 RB 8 QB 4 TE Defense: 23 D-Line picks 9 DE 14 DT 23 Secondary Picks 7 Safeties 16 CB's 10 LB

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 30, 2015 -> 02:35 PM) look at his rap sheet he was in a car accident! he had spinal surgery a week ago! he did it to himself! Baltimore man detained with Freddie Gray: Police are using me to ‘cover their ass’

This got out of hand quickly.
-
The police finished their internal investigation of the incident today. Freddie Gray appears to have been killed his head slammed into a bolt in the back of the van. There was also an additional stop made by the van that was not reported until police found private security cameras that showed the stop. No word yet on what occurred.
-
The solution to that hypothetical problem is for cops to stop being dicks and verbally abusive to the point where it justifies civil settlements.

Baltimore police illegally detained many protesters, public defender says Sounds like the some of the same actions that got the Chicago PD in trouble over the 2003 Iraq War protests and cost the city $11M.
