  1. That is something that police unions have strongly opposed.
  2. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Apr 30, 2015 -> 01:02 PM) The Nationals and Orioles are franchises of Major League Baseball. Big f***ing difference than two seperate companies. When you buy a McDonalds or a BK franchise, you get certain territory guarantees I'm pretty sure.
  3. Just poking fun at the litany of excuses that are popping up. "Sources" and "reports" over the last few days said first that he was in a car accident recently and then that he had spinal surgery last week. Now it's "oh he broke his own neck trying to make it look like a police department with a long history of violence roughed him up."
  4. look at his rap sheet he was in a car accident! he had spinal surgery a week ago! he did it to himself!
  5. QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 30, 2015 -> 01:15 PM) From what I understand, it will be fairly difficult to charge these officers, let alone convict them of anything. Then that's a failure of our system of justice.
  6. Texas is run by crazy people. http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning...ation-in-texas/ Texas Guv Surrenders to Conspiracy Nuts
  7. Yeah, but I bet Bernie Sanders remembers how much good Ralph Nader's 2000 campaign did for the country and the world. Plus, he hasn't even had a (D) candidate to run against in Vermont in years. Don't get me wrong, I'd personally greatly prefer Sanders to Clinton or whoever the eventual dem nominee is, but I'd also greatly prefer not handing the Presidential election to whoever the Republican nominee is with a left-wing third party run that would only siphon votes from the Democrat. The national two party system is an artifact of the structure of our government and our elections. If you want a more-than-two-party system, you need something more like a parliamentary system, not a Presidential system with a legislature with tons of veto points like we have. edit: also, a good portion of the country would consider an open socialist to be a crackpot
  8. David Simon [creator of The Wire] on Baltimore’s Anguish Too much solid stuff to really excerpt a paragraph or two. If you've seen The Wire, you know his view of things, but he lays it out pretty well in this interview.
  9. I can't think of anything less serious than a third party presidential campaign.
  10. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Apr 30, 2015 -> 09:45 AM) Wash Post came out with a report last night referncing another suspect in the back of the van with him. The other guy says he was trying to injure himself.....FWIW... WaPo repeated leaked info from the Balitmore PD unquestioningly. Local reporters heard differently earlier. https://twitter.com/jemillerwbal
  11. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 06:31 PM) A superintendent is akin to a CEO. Most of the cops don't make near what a superintendent makes...so the comparison just isn't there. The guy with the Mercedes was the off duty detective, not the superintendent. But for all we know it's a 1995 merc with 150k miles on the clock.
  12. Off-duty, unregistered handgun, firing over his shoulder at a crowd because he "feared for his life" from a man with a cellphone. here's the quotes from the superintendent:
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 11:10 AM) I think the question people need to ask when judging here is, do you think the citizens of Baltimore have a right to protest over another example of police brutality. And if that is yes, would you forfeit your act of protest if subset of the group were destructive? Also, for Chicago. For as useless and stupid as the riots may be in each literal aspect, Chicago could just as easily be facing this soon. Their police dept. does many of the same things as was listed in Ferguson. They literally had a torture ring. They have poor performers, and the climate is right now that a violent police situation may tear this city apart too. This isn't just a Baltimore problem. So my point is, Chicago needs to get ahead, and not just plan for riots. Like...try to solve these issues. e.g., with some pretty callous quotes from the police superintendent thrown in for good measure.
  14. I bet that the space flight sims hold up pretty well even if the graphics are dated while the FPS's are hot garbage. I remember going back and playing Goldeneye in 2005 or 2006 and thinking it was terrible.
  15. A little bit of Star Wars talk mixed in with all of The Show, Good Old Games (gog.com) is running big sales on a whole bunch of classic Star Wars PC games. Everything from the classic X-Wing series to Knights of the Old Republic I & II, Battlefront II and a bunch of others. They've got two big bundles or you can buy the games individually for a few bucks a piece. I think I still have my original Tie Fighter floppies from 1995 in my parents' basement somewhere.
  16. Bernie Sanders announced that he's running for the D nomination
  17. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 12:03 PM) Not really the point I'm making. I'm saying that for a job so dangerous, if you want really good candidates, you can't offer them a low salary and crappy benefits. the US military is somewhat of a counterpoint to that, maybe.
  18. Oh yeah, the taxes! The finger thing means the taxes! more of an excuse to post that gif because it cracks me up than anything.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 10:19 AM) If people are actually believing the Crips and Bloods to be the voice of reason literally nobody is saying this.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 10:12 AM) Yeah, the local drug dealer is all about keeping the neighborhood from going to hell. Police crackdowns and curfews aren't exactly good for business. edit: should point out that the rumor wasn't that they were starting or encouraging riots but that they were banding together to take out police officers.
