  1. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 04:26 PM) If it is a s*** hole why do they care that they're being moved out? It's still their community and where they live and who they know, and now they're just being pushed somewhere else that's probably just as bad if not worse than their previous neighborhood. Like bmags said, there are ways of doing gentrification that don't result in displacing most of the existing residences and replacing them with a bunch of yuppies, but that's usually how it goes.
  2. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 04:24 PM) I haven't heard any of this press conference but by your reactions it sounds like its the same ol Bear circus. That is disappointing. I was hopeful they would have handled this right. They really had to get this right. At least Ted Phillips isn't solely in charge of the GM and coach hiring this time around. Maybe if they've got a strong GM candidate who wants full control, he'd turn it over. Here's hoping, anyway.
  3. They have excellent communication! They talk to each other! Whew, I was really worried there.
  4. QUOTE (bulokis @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 04:14 PM) Why is Ted still the president? because Bears
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 04:11 PM) So I guess the Ted rumors were just rumors. SOunds like this guy is just a consultant for this hire than he's out. boo.
  6. Only Kromer, Emery and Trestman have been let go thus far.
  7. FWIW that was literally what was done to black people throughout much of the 20th century, and it was reason #1, not reason #11. It's basically what redlining and white flight were all about. So given that historical context, it'd be more offensive if said about black people in 2014 because they actually suffered for it for generations. White people aren't and weren't actually being redlined.
  8. Absolutely, but Gruden walking into Tampa Bay versus taking over the 2015 Bears are very different situations.
  9. He could always break the contract and pay damages or whatever to ESPN.
  10. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 01:43 PM) Under Cutler this season, the Bears have a total of 2, (that's right, TWO!), touchdowns insides the 2 minute warning - 1 came against in week 2 against SF, the other was a garbage time TD pass to Jeffery against the Saints. Put that in perspective, the both Tampa and Tennessee finished 2-14, but has 4 and 6 TD's, respectively, inside the 2 minute warning. Just goes to show you how bad the offense was under pressure and how inconsistent it was to develop any sort of rhythm. It seemed like every week the announcers were commenting on their lack of urgency in getting up to the line.
  11. Well I'm definitely happy it didn't play out that way.
  12. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 12:46 PM) Much easier to save your job when you have a clear scapegoat. I bet Trestman would have also benched Cutler much earlier in the season. That was so obviously a GM "you have to play that guy" decision. I know you're blinded by your Cutler hatred, but this team was god awful top-to-bottom and Trestman didn't have any sort of control over the locker room or his staff.
  13. lol edit: the idea that both Emery and Trestman could have talked themselves into another year if only they could dump Jay Cutler is hilarious, but the bears could conceivably f*** up that badly
  14. If Emery just franchises Cutler for this year instead of the big contract, does he keep his job?
  15. I was saying that's the core of the problem people have with it--that it pushes poorer people out of the neighborhoods. Increasing property values don't help renters.
  16. that lasted about 30 seconds
  17. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 11:27 AM) He was a good coach. That was a long time ago. He was good when he had John Elway. In the 90's. He was okay in Denver after that for a little while, and never did much in Washington. No thanks.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 10:15 AM) As the neighborhood becomes more valuable, the people who live in it get priced out and are forced to move. Isn't that the #1 concern? It just so happens that usually those being forced out are minorities and those moving in are white. Yep that's basically the core of it.
  19. Nashville chief of police with a solid Christmas message The email he references and his response is too long to quote but is available at the link.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 08:58 AM) I won't look back as angry at Phil Emerys talent acquisitions, but he hitched his career on Cutler and Trestman. You don't get another chance after this year. He had a lot to prove after making Shea McClellin his first pick.
  21. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 28, 2014 -> 02:42 PM) Am I understanding this correctly? The NYPD calls their work shifts "tours of duty?" The federal government does that for most (maybe all) of its agencies.
  22. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 27, 2014 -> 07:56 AM) this is my opinion on the Bears and maybe their problem. is it really the coaches fault? i think the real fault to should fall right on the shoulder pads of the QB. before the Bears got him, he was practually ran out of Denver. Let's not pretend that Josh Mcdaniel's personnel moves were anything but hilariously bad.
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 23, 2014 -> 10:58 AM) 5% and 4.7% GDP growth in 2 and 3, let's see how much cheap oil helps in q4 and lets see some wage growth. 5% is the best quarterly number since 2003.

I always thought "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" was a subtly sad song. Having it transposed from major to minor makes it not only sad but borderline threatening.
