  1. I busted out my one semester of Athletic Training from HS (plus some helpful yt videos) to tape her toe up last night. That plus wrapping her whole foot loosely in an ace bandage and then wearing some compression socks helped a little. She's a teacher, so it's not like she can just sit behind a desk and stay off of it all day, either.
  2. pretty sure my wife got turf toe walking on the treadmill. blaming it on the cheap nikes she switched to a couple of weeks ago.
  3. golfing on the honeymoon, off to a good start
  4. oh you still think issa's joke of an investigation revealed anything actually nefarious
  5. also fwiw the whole "making the Jews" register thing should be taken with a grain of salt, at least for now. So far it's just been some anonymous leaflets saying Jews need to register, and both sides are saying its propaganda by the other side. http://www.newrepublic.com/article/117415/...s-jews-register
  6. I'm confused I thought this was a Ukraine thread, what does Ukraine have to do with Israel?
  7. this is pretty terrible: http://www.motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2014...rnment-run-amok WTF? They just go after the eldest child first and work their way down? All because their mother was (allegedly) overpaid, which means a bunch of teenage kids benefited three decades ago? That's got to be the most cockamamie thing I've ever heard of.
  8. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 11, 2014 -> 04:06 PM) Suey Park my favorite new political activist. One of my friends is convinced she is actually a Republican doing a Colbert'esque impersonation of an activist, but I think she is for real. I have no doubt she's for real.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 11, 2014 -> 03:57 PM) Well some are to screw the vertical mounts to the back of your tv...the newer tvs seem to use a standard size, but the older ones used all different sizes I think... I meant the lag bolts. I have probably 30 of them in my garage from three different mounts. Most TVs and monitors use a "VESA" pattern these days, I think it became pretty much industry standard in 2005 or so.
  10. She still doesn't seem to understand what that segment was satirizing. Yeah, racial humor is really difficult to do well, especially if you're using some group you're not a part of. Colbert usually does that very well. I wouldn't have a problem with anyone saying that they understand the point he was making, but still were offended with the way he made it. I could see pointing out that using other ethnic stereotypes, even to satirically mock ethnic stereotypes, is more damaging than helpful, e.g. how many people laugh at Colbert mocking how ridiculous Snyder is versus are really laughing at the racist stereotype (Chappell had this problem frequently). But not once does Seuy Park bother to mention what Colbert was actually mocking with his deliberately-over-the-top ethnic stereotyping, Dan Snyder's Washington Redskins Original Americans Foundation. Like Colbert pointed out in his lengthy response last week, the #CancelColbert crowd has completely changed the topic from the continuing use of a racial slur for an NFL team's name and then deliberately rubbing it in with this foundation to Colbert's satire. Most of the articles I've seen talking about it don't even bother to mention the WROAF. Why not try to make common cause with AmeriIndian groups and others who protest against the redskins slur?
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 11, 2014 -> 03:35 PM) I put lag bolts into studs. That's what Monoprice ships with their mounts. For some reason they ship like twenty of them, though.
  12. Netflix has started offering 4k content, including HoC. From the CNET review:
  13. There are drywall anchors that are rated for higher than 60lbs, but I don't know that I'd trust a big TV to them.
  14. That's fine as long as we all agree that Rock and Shack struggle to lift 60 pounds. seriously though plasmas are definitely significantly heavier than comparably sized LCDs, but I moved mine once to put it on the wall and might move it again in 3-5 years if we move to a new house.
  15. you should know me better than to think I didn't google it before posting
  16. I thought you guys work out? A 50" plasma weighs like 40 pounds.
  17. yeah, it can be hard to find a higher-quality set that doesn't include all of that junk with it.
  18. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 11, 2014 -> 10:46 AM) It hasn't been said yet, but also grab a tv without all the extra internet crap on it. The tv companies charge you 2-300 bucks or more for that stuff and really it's not necessary when you can spend $100 on a roku/amazon tv box or $35 on a chromecast. There really is no benefit to having it all built in to the TV. Using my internal samsung stuff takes the same amount of time as my chromecast and the quality is all the same as well. absolutely true
  19. LED TVs are really LCD TVs that are LED-lit. LCD screens used to be CCLD-lit. I don't know what Steve has against Plasma. Plasma's native refresh rate is 600Hz compared to 60/120/240 for LED/LCD.
  20. It's always fun to go to Abt and gawk for a while.
  21. So, anyway, back to the actual topic, does anyone have recommendations on a decent self-propelled mower?
  22. Some how I completely blanked on my neighbor's heavily landscaped yard: That was last summer, when a lot of the landscaping was still struggling to recover from the drought we had the year before. But this cost him something like $30k to do. That's a lot of lawn mowers and gas.
