  1. Lolla might suck up the Chicago stop a tour would otherwise make. e.g. QOTSA apparently playing every festival in the world but no regular concert dates through at least this summer, and it looks like Phoenix is doing the same thing
  2. Unemployment in the Euro Zone reaches new record highs http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/03/business...percent.html?hp
  3. If I was on the jury in the Zimmerman case, I would hope that I would be able to listen to the evidence and theories presented at trial in as objective of a manner as possible. Given how many pointless words I've split on the subject, I doubt I'd be the best possible juror. I do pretty firmly believe that Zimmerman was in the wrong and I've yet to see anything that places his actions in a reasonable light. However, it's still all predicated on his decision to leave his truck and pursue Martin negating his ability to claim SYG. It'll be interesting to see if the girl Treyvon was supposedly talking to right up until the confrontation testifies or what other evidence comes to light. What people were so strongly reacting to was that this wasn't ever going to be more than minimally investigated and, later, the racist backlash that came from the fever swamps. If Zimmerman gets fair trial and his lawyers can present enough evidence to make a plausible case for Zimmerman's story, then so be it.
  4. I'm sick of Lolla sucking all the oxygen out of the room. I'd rather go see a handful of these bands at some other venue than have to pay a s***load of money to go see them outdoors.
  5. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 08:10 AM) Above/below a certain power levels, and above/below certain noise ratios, some HD channels will turn grainy or not work at all. For most people, a simple repeater will fix any such issues, for others, the line from the pole to their home is bad and of course Comcast will pretend all is fine, so long as it fits into their really broad spectrum of "tolerance". My parents have been dealing with this for over a decade, and we dealt with it for years at our condo until we finally got a competent tech out there who actually bothered to read power levels for more than 2 seconds. Comcast's customer service is absolutely abysmal.
  6. I'm pretty sure this video from gawker will be admissible as evidence, too! Odd that you'd pick out three heavily qualifying statements in one sentence and then say I've determined he's guilty beyond any doubt, though. I mean, I put those in there for a reason.
  7. Gameday shows all four balls solidly in the strike zone??
  8. screw that, I'll find ways to watch for free instead of having to go through a bunch of effort to pay them $100. Plus, will that work on Xbox or a Blueray player with the MLB app?
  9. MLB's incredibly dumb blackout rules ensure that I'll never pay for MLB.tv
  10. I wouldn't be surprised if Zimmerman actually initiated physical contact by grabbing at Treyvon, but either way, I think the most likely scenario is still "Dude follows some people, gets out of his car, starts an altercation, gets his ass beat and then pulls a gun."
  11. gonna wait for something more reliable than infowars
  12. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 1, 2013 -> 12:59 PM) Idiots are everywhere, with guns and without guns. and they all need to be armed to stop the Bad Guys! Yeah no doubt, I said that it's a pretty close match for what I think happened in the Treyvon case, not that the legal charges would be the same.
  13. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Mar 31, 2013 -> 01:54 PM) Of course, you made up your mind a long time ago about this and aren't letting go. yeah, how unreasonable to say that this guy shouldn't have a gun.
  14. yeah I'm gonna stay with "this is exactly the type of 'good guy' 'law-abiding citizen' who should never be allowed to own a gun"
  15. the "dude" also stalked a group of teenagers for 40 minutes because they cut him off and then tried to hit the driver in the face. he got his ass completely beat for it and the kids looked like they were stopping once his dumb ass was beat and thrown to the ground. then dumbass takes the gun, comes at them again, a round gets discharged. yeah, guns sure "worked" there.
  16. Economy built for profits not prosperity
  17. i dunno, the shoe one could be a safety concern so that a player doesn't roll their ankle if it's not cleared off in time?
  18. this is essentially what I think happened in the Trayvon case: http://gawker.com/5992400/caught-on-camera...getting-beat-up Dude follows some people, gets out of his car, starts an altercation, gets his ass beat and then pulls a gun.
  19. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 28, 2013 -> 01:34 PM) If you don't like it, but the more expensive organic oatmeal. There are options out there, and companies do take notice if consumers choose these other products. But that sorta ignores the whole part a few posts back about that 1) not being a solution for many people, to always opt for the more expensive product and 2) not being a realistic driving force for the economy at large Do we demand it, or was a new market segment created after tens of millions of dollars of market research and product development? Yeah, but those wraps are still pretty s***ty food. also this: In a world with marketing, advertising and psychological research like we have, you can't really say that consumers drive the market, at least not anywhere near 100%.
  20. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Mar 28, 2013 -> 12:21 PM) I just saw this. Makes me very sad. In an era of Lew Alcindor, Nate Thurmond, Wes Unseld, Dave Cowens, to name a few, the Bulls had Tom Boerwinkle. He'd never be thought of when anyone thinks of the best centers of the 70's, but he was pretty damn good. Like you mentioned, a great passer and also pretty damn good defensively and a tenacious rebounder. He still holds the team record of 37 rebounds in a game. That may never be broken. His five career triple-doubles ranks him third in Bulls history behind MJ and Pippen. He’s second in Bulls career rebounds (5,745), fifth in games played (635) and seventh in assists (2,007). Bob Love was quoted as saying he cried all day when he heard about Boerwinkle's death. My friend's father used to work for a company that Boerwinkle was a part-owner of. I met him a few times and sat in his box at the UC for some 'hawks and Bulls games. Nice guy, from what I remember.
  21. IIRC new chemicals are presumed safe until proven dangerous in this country, sorta the opposite of how medicine is regulated.
  22. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 28, 2013 -> 01:14 PM) How do you know that's not because of regulations or shipping considerations? Why are you assuming it's because of a financial choice to make more money (which still makes no sense since they have to pay extra to put the extra crap in the product) I was trying to find some explanation (because I have no idea why they differentiate), and came across this: http://www.100daysofrealfood.com/2013/02/1...ther-countries/ Obviously a source with an agenda, but it appears that many preservatives used in US foods are banned elsewhere. another on the difference between US and UK chocolate: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12...-chocolate.html and one on chicken mcnuggets http://thechart.blogs.cnn.com/2010/06/25/a...e-of-2-nuggets/ and one on nutrigrain http://blog.fooducate.com/2010/12/02/nutri...than-europeans/ So most other places don't allow food companies to put s***loads of chemicals into their processed foods, but we're cool with that here.
  23. Along this line but much more important than oatmeal is pharmaceutical research. We had stagnated antibiotic development for over 20 years because there's not enough profit motive there, yet clearly we have a huge social motive. http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2012-08...-drug-companies Market forces are great in some instances, but there are very clear limitations.
