QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 19, 2013 -> 01:05 PM) Compared to WW2, it IS minimal. It's called a comparison. I know you know what that is, you just like ignoring things that make your point harder to get across. It was brought up out of the blue. Nobody had any point about rape until Duke started telling us how it isn't that serious.
-
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 19, 2013 -> 12:51 PM) ... and the saddest part: If you actually try to put s*** in perspective you're suddenly an advocate of whatever bad thing it was that tried to put into perspective. Keep minimizing rape! Which I have no idea why you even brought up in the first place.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 19, 2013 -> 12:37 PM) . Girl gets date-raped, move over World War 2 and the Black Death there's a new Greatest Tragedy in the History of Mankind. DukeNukeEm, Date Rape Apologist

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 19, 2013 -> 11:00 AM) "Nobody would dare hurt my beloved government! They wouldn't dare. They're just here to help people by taking away their rights and stealing money from them to give to other people who are lazy... whats wrong with that?" lol

QUOTE (YASNY @ Jan 19, 2013 -> 02:34 AM) Just this week, two little 6 year old boys were suspended from school for playing cops and robbers by simulating guns with their hands and yelling "Pow!". What happened to letting little boys actually be little boys? btw, just this week this didn't actually happen: http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/educat...4efc_story.html This happened about a week after Sandy, not "just this week," it was one boy, and he was suspended after he was told not to do that anymore.

let's stop pretending that we need to even entertain the idea of widespread open, armed insurrection in this country as a legitimate thing

According to what one nbc anchor said a month ago. Great journalism!

QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 19, 2013 -> 07:51 AM) The two income point is interesting. When we see jobs that do allow for a woman to stay home, say being an autoworker in Detroit or a school teacher in Chicago we complain they are earning too much. When there is talk about raising the minimum wage, it's too damn much. Then was applaud and present as successful the investors that buy companies to move the jobs overseas. See the profits they made for their investors! I am still laughing my ass off at the school comment. And YAS, when the military takes over, do you think the President will be a Dem or a Rep? wages have been stagnant for decades while the COL hasn't, that's one major reason for two-income households.

lol edit: meant for OP, not tex. there is so much garbage in the op it's hard to know where to start deconstructing it.

that's cool, carter didn't say anything about the holocaust. he actually said "currently in the world" or something to that effect. like I said, unhinged. just throwin' that out there.
-
That's great, you still dragged the holocaust into this for some dumb reason.
-
No I think he's confused because you say Carter has said the blockade is "one of" the greatest human rights tragedies on earth (right now? ever?) and therefore Carter must think the Holocaust is a speed-bump. Unless you were going for self-parody there, it kinda signals that your argument is pretty unhinged.

It was part of a sentence talking about under-funding infrastructure nationally. Most of that post was about infrastructure, not education. -

I didn't say they were? But if we're going to talk about Texas' amazing budget surplus, we should look at how they got there and what the effects of those policy choices are. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 08:29 AM) We also require the education of everyone, and then compare it to the rest of the world who doesn't. I meant compared to other states. Tex is right that there are compounding factors, though. -

QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 08:25 AM) We judge education systems by the student's outcome on standardized tests which sometimes unfairly characterizes the schools. In Texas we have a very large recent immigrant population which severly impacts our test scores. The schools are much better than most people outside of Texas realize. We also have a very strong state funded university system. Comparing U of I with UT - Austin, which I believe are very comparatable instututions, the in state tuition is about 33% less for Austin. I'm not certain what you mean about infrastructure. I've read before that Texas has underfunded infrastructure: http://www.texastribune.org/2012/12/04/ins...frastructure-1/ That's not unique to Texas, though. We've underfunded infrastructure nation-wide, despite being able to borrow money for free and a bunch of people particularly in construction that need jobs. Texas made billions in cuts to their education funding last year as well. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/05/us/budge...?pagewanted=all -
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 07:52 PM) It has some continuity to it but its not really necessary to watch the previous seasons to enjoy it. The episodes can be watched individually just fine. there's a ton of self-referential jokes you'll miss probably

I criticized duke for drawing a conclusion on what work the public sector does based on what he sees on the sidewalk walking to work. I linked to a post by a friend who expressed the same idea that ptact was getting at and with which I agree because I thought it was well-written. lol@u if you think these are comparable things. -

There's some "ND puts more effort into investigating fake dead girl than real dead girl" righteousness but mostly it seems to be amusement.
