Would you mind if I passed that post on to Yves in an email?

Settlement info by state Why would you negotiate a settlement of massive, widespread national fraud before you do your investigations? Why is no one going to jail?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 9, 2012 -> 08:26 AM) The above part is 100% nonsensical. It looks like it was written by a 19 year old philosophy major who recently started reading his first finance book. It's by Yves Smith (Susan Webber) can you give a quick summation of why it's completely nonsensical?

QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 9, 2012 -> 08:03 AM) I had to work that day and have still not even seen the injury. Was it gruesome? Edit: And no, I don't want to see it either...so please don't embed a clip. Imagine someone who's very flexible bending over at the waist with straight legs and putting their head between their ankles. Now imagine that same thing, but in the other direction.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Feb 8, 2012 -> 04:15 PM) The Bears have four HOF'ers on defense, they should be better than they are. Urlacher and Peppers. Unlikely outside shot at Briggs. Who else?

<!--quoteo(post=2546745:date=Feb 9, 2012 -> 07:51 AM:name=G&T)--> QUOTE (G&T @ Feb 9, 2012 -> 07:51 AM) <!--quotec-->First, there are many examples of animals raising babies of another species or animals befriending animals of another species. It's not normal, but it does happen. There are also countless examples of symbiotic relationships in nature. Animals that feel safe being around each other can and will work together. This is possibly the most adorable thing I've ever seen:

AFAIK dogs wouldn't exist without humans. They were domesticated wolves that slowly diverged.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:44 PM) Obama is attempting to sell homeowners down the river to protect banks from any real litigation over their many dishonest practices in the last several years. The latest move to get AG Schneiderman behind the mortgage settlement deal by placing him on a joke of an investigation committee is winning over his liberal apologists. Yet More Mortgage Settlement Lies: Release Looks Broad, Not Narrow; Other States Screwed to Bribe California to Join This terrible deal is going to go through. Every state but Oklahoma is now on-board for giving banks a slap on the wrist for committing massive mortgage fraud for years and leading the economy off a cliff. edit: Oklahoma's AG is staying out of the deal because he doesn't believe the banks should face any penalty. OBAMA!!!! http://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2012/02/the...settlement.html This is the best (worst) part: 2. That $26 billion is actually $5 billion of bank money and the rest is your money. The mortgage principal writedowns are guaranteed to come almost entirely from securitized loans, which means from investors, which in turn means taxpayers via Fannie and Freddie, pension funds, insurers, and 401 (k)s. Refis of performing loans also reduce income to those very same investors.

Senate Republicans probably are filibustering the nominations -
QUOTE (farmteam @ Feb 8, 2012 -> 04:26 PM) Wait, what? I thought it was pretty well documented that he was pushing for it harder than others, if anything. His cognitive dissonance is pretty amazing. Or, more cynically, he knows it's dumb and untrue but he also knows that his audience will love it so....

I'm pretty sure I used it a few days ago in this thread!

This was 100% Paterno's fault. I bet the whole Sandusky thing is just cover for Paterno, anyway. Everything was entirely done by Paterno.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 8, 2012 -> 12:12 PM) Youll have to inform me what a zombia argument is as I am not familiar with the term. An argument that is soundly refuted but rises from the dead down the road, mindlessly ambling along towards the next victim, no awareness of what transpired before.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 8, 2012 -> 12:06 PM) No Steve, lets set the record straight. While you were busy believing that Paterno was the most powerful man in Pennsylvania and that it was all Paterno, I was the only one saying that there was no way it was just Paterno, and that Paterno was being used as a scapegoat to cover up for more powerful people. this zombie argument will never die

Hannity is still trying to push the "Democrats are weak" line, claiming that Obama wouldn't have killed Osama if he had his way.

Judge Demands Report On Prosecutorial Misconduct In Ted Stevens Case Be Made Public

This belongs in the "Obamanation" thread as a great example of some terrible policies from this WH. "SPEED LIMITE ENFORCED BY PREDATOR DRONE MISSILES"

I've been watching Ken Burns' National Parks docu and planning a trip to Yosemite lately, so this really struck a cord with me. Yosemite was seriously mismanaged by the state of California. edit: honestly, if they were trying to turn over the national parks to private ownership, I'd be right there with the rest of the protesters.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 8, 2012 -> 10:28 AM) And what would the upside of this be? Other than just decentralization of power? It would ostensibly be about decentralization of power like other states' rights arguments, but it would just so happen to benefit commercial interests at the expense of everyone else.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 8, 2012 -> 10:18 AM) ugh What we do with them? Private sales? Turn them over to the states who could do with them as they please. This could mean maintaining a state park or selling or leasing the land for development. The Grand Canyon was almost leased for mining rights several times, and many states have sold off state parks in recent years to combat budget deficits.
-
QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 8, 2012 -> 09:54 AM) I've lost all interest in the primaries. I can't support either one of the front runners and just when I think I can warm up to Paul, I read something he said and that feeling goes away. Obama 2012 Paul wants to eliminate federally held public land, which would include the entire national parks system.

It's fun watching the IPCC predictions all pretty much hit the measured temps dead-on. And that's why its so frustrating to see things like the WSJ editorial, where the same zombie arguments crop up again and again.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 8, 2012 -> 08:53 AM) Usually? Personal political gain. In America, first you get the sugar, then you get the power, then you get the women. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 8, 2012 -> 08:28 AM) Have you been able to accurately predict the speed at which climate change or global warming or agw has affected the polar ice caps and rising water levels? Not exactly ice caps and water levels but something demonstrating the accuracy of climate models.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 8, 2012 -> 09:14 AM) The WSJ seems to me, anyways, to be challenging just exactly what to do about the problem. Again, to me, this is a legitimate question. That terrible editorial was about how it's not even a problem and how scientists are in it for the grant money. It was not a philosophical (libertarian) opposition to doing something at all or opposition to certain proposals based on economic analysis. It was pure denialism.
