  1. One idea: make state taxes progressive instead of heavily regressive.
  2. It's pretty sad that the right-wing response to teachers earning a decent living isn't to fight for everyone to raise up, but to drag teachers down. But I'm not sure what any of this has to do with the election!
  3. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 10:10 PM) Hey, you man Obama says everyone needs some skins in the game, and the top people should contribute more. Turns out Wisconsin teachers make mroe than the average Wisconsin resident. Average resident pay is $37,398. Average teacher salary is in the mid $40's. Not including benefits. http://www.jsonline.com/watchdog/dataondemand/33534649.html http://dailycaller.com/2011/02/21/wisconsi...yre-letting-on/ Another report that ignores education levels, awesome!
  4. Their attempted backpedaling is hilarious. I will be intentionally avoiding any and all products and promotions they're associated with and have let them know.
  5. Bloomberg has offered $250,000 in matching donations for Planned Parenthood. Donate here
  6. QUOTE (zenryan @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 06:56 PM) Who cares what the average favorability is when he is currently sitting under 50%. I guess it's best to spin it to whatever sounds most favorable depending on your side. In was a question in the context of "does a long, drawn-out primary help or hurt candidates, on balance?"
  7. How do you view the impact of Walker's policies on the Presidential election in WI?
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 01:17 PM) What does that have to do with anything? If you live in a culture where you don't drive much, you won't drive drunk much, either. It applies to urban life in this country to some extent, too, but if you're in the suburbs you don't really have a choice to walk to bars.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 01:14 PM) Who knows what that is attributable to. My guess is the more obvious health concerns/knowledge rather than it not being advertised in commercials. It's advertised plenty in movies. I'd imagine it's attributable to it being more stigmatized than glamorized largely because of those health concerns, but I just wanted to point out that smoking has steadily declined over the decades.
  10. Apparently Cutler spoke out against Indiana's new Right-to-work-a-man-to-death laws. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/foot...0186/index.html
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 01:12 PM) Well we celebrate it everywhere in our culture and then expect people to get home at night without having drank anything Well we also have a culture based on having to drive everywhere, which is a bit different from a lot of other countries.
  12. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 01:10 PM) They banned smoking commercials and taxed the hell out of it yet people still tend to be smoking Smoking rates are way down from what they used to be.
  13. Our drinking laws are terrible. We make it such a taboo and then wonder why kids binge drink in college.
  14. I'm wondering if you can expand on why its a false equivalency to require an unnecessary, invasive examination for a male-only procedure?
  15. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 09:29 AM) More insight on their motivations:
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 10:29 AM) I'm sure Trump is loving that. It amazes me that anyone gives a s*** what that jackass thinks. This onion article was pretty funny:
  17. Congratulations on not dying for another year!
  18. I think we can all agree that this is approximately 1 trillion times worse: http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-02...0,5063298.story
  19. Jobless claims fall again to 367,000
  20. Can you recommend anything in Chattanooga?
  21. Balta, just wondering, did you ever end up getting a nook?
  22. why do you think he moved to Seattle?
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 07:58 AM) Really, did the Hillary/Obama race stretching until May, and that awful 6 weeks of "Obama can't bowl he's unamariecan!" during the pre-Pennsylvania gap really cost the Democrats last time? Everything starts anew around convention time. Were Obama's favorables among independents heavily impacted like Romney's have been?
