Evidence that this is true in the long run?

You be the judge
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 10:08 AM) It doesn't matter. Legally schools can do pretty much whatever they want. Not according to this Texas judge. I posted a link to the judgement on the previous page.

Is austerity making their situation better or worse, their debts more manageable or less?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 09:46 AM) But if the person hasn't told their parents, then the information is still private at some level, wouldn't you agree? Potentially but that's a lot more of a grey area both ethically (she appeared openly gay to them, could they honestly know or expect that the mother didn't know if they had legitimate reasons for informing on the relationship) and legally.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 09:45 AM) Why does that matter? It's hard to violate someone's privacy by disclosing public information.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 09:41 AM) I don't think they did the right thing, but I wouldn't call it an invasion of her privacy either, especially if there was actual evidence that she was "openly gay for several years." That's their assertion, but the judge isn't buying that claim. If she wasn't openly gay, then she absolutely has a right to privacy that they violated.

It's not illegal for a 16 and an 18 year old to date. They don't claim knowledge of a physical relationship, and even in their version of the facts it seems like a petty, childish squabble on the part of the coaches.

Why doesn't that website contain any information whatsoever about the actual case number or anything you can use (school district, plaintiffs, defendants) to look it up? edit: google-fu http://newyorklawschool.typepad.com/leonar...ntiality-l.html http://www.leagle.com/xmlResult.aspx?xmldo...20111202586.xml More detailed reports seem to indicate that there was no admission of a sexual relationship.

Relevant law: http://law.onecle.com/texas/penal/21.11.00.html So, apparently, if it had been an 18yo male having sex with the 16yo, he'd be ok, but since it's same-sex, it's still statutory rape. Way to go, Texas. Incorrect! maybe that's an outdated code I found first. http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/docs/pe/htm/pe.22.htm But, that aside, the article describes them only reporting that her daughter was dating a girl, not reporting potential abuse/rape. And it sounds like they cornered her and badgered her for a false confession.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 08:51 AM) There was something out there about specifically targeting fox news employees personally and trying to find things about them and their personal lives. I am on a different computer right now, so I can't go back and find the link. juddling posted an article from Tucker's website's current 'expose' on Media Matters that claims Media Matters is/was doing that, but it's not related to these Truth Teams. The Media Matters thing is creepy but Carlon's articles on it have been pretty lame so far, basically reporting that 'omg! the media gets information from advocacy groups and sometimes reports that information!'

The Republican Thread
Even the brief googling that turned up a NewsMax and Glenn Beck article seems pretty innocuous edit: so the infowars story on it makes it seem pretty terrible, but it's infowars so...

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 08:40 AM) The truth teams referred to in the first link, and what their roles would be. Basic political messaging, "correcting" "inaccuracies" about their candidate while highlighting flaws in the GOP? They had similar things in 2008 as the article points out, and I still don't understand how "Private lives being private, and the role of media to report the news instead of making it" applies to this? Or personal liberties? I haven't read anything beyond that article alpha posted, so maybe there's background knowledge you have that I don't. But that article lays out Grassroots Campaigning 101 and I don't see what you're taking issue with.

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 08:39 AM) I would bet we see some recovery in those numbers too once one candidate gets to control the message. But then Obama starts unloading his $1B warchest! I think we can both agree that national poll numbers this far out make for dumb political horse-race watching but are good for little else.

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 08:32 AM) It happens every contested primary. They all hate each other until the only other alternative is the other party. I don't doubt that he'll recover among Republicans, at least somewhat, but he's seen a sharp decline among independents and center-right dems as well. Obama and Hillary didn't see this sort of widespread hit to their favorability ratings in 2008.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 08:33 AM) Private lives being private, and the role of media to report the news instead of making it. Are you confusing Alpha Dog's and juddling's posts? Alpha Dog's post was about Obama running a similar grassroots campaign to what he did in 2008. I have no idea what volunteer political organizing really has to do with civil liberties.

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 08:22 AM) The thing is, that will all change once the nomination process is done. Why? It's not just "among Republicans" that his favorability has seriously dropped off.

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 07:37 AM) Isn't he still the front runner? He'll get the nomination. Probably, but his general favorability numbers have been steadily declining for over a month now.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 10:28 PM) And the public has seemed to eat it up. That bolded part refers to Romney, whom the public is increasingly disliking.

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 07:46 PM) I know, right? The guy attacks the liberals from the left and the conservatives from the right, and the centrists from his mirror. I cannot stand Rmoney. (I like it, Balta.). He's Rick Perry-esque. He attacked Obama for not doing anything to fix entitlement programs and massively cutting entitlement spending. In adjoining sentences.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (farmteam @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 05:22 PM) I don't think I qualify as a "Dem troll" but I don't see any personal liberty issue, at least for the part you quoted. I do see it as one more aspect of the whole process that will quickly devolve into (if not begin as) negative campaigning. Yeah I'm not sure how this has anything to do with civil liberties, seems like standard political organizing.

QUOTE (sunofgold @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 12:18 PM) I wouldn't bench Beckham. Play him or trade him. Hope that he corrects his hitting woes. If not, there might be a team out there that thinks that they can correct him and he does play stellar defense. you just advocated for lilli to start at 2b.
