QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:58 PM) I think the only person who can beat Obama is Hillary and that goes for people in both parties. If the economy continues along at a really sluggish pace or gets worse thanks to Europe tanking, Obama's going to be in a very weak position.

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:53 PM) If the GOP truly thought they could win this year Rubio, Christie, Bush, Daniels and maybe even Palin would have jumped into the race. I don't know that any of them wouldn't have flopped just as hard as Perry did. Daniels isn't exactly bursting with charisma, Rubio and Christie are relatively new national names, Bush's name is pretty tainted and lol@Palin.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:53 PM) Are candidates allowed to run against an incumbent president in a primary? I'm surprised there's no Democratic candidates opposing the Prez. I think the same thing happened to Sir Bush in 2004. Someone could try to run a contested primary, but they wouldn't get any national DNC support and all of the establishment that goes with it. Incumbent candidates for Senate and House seats and governorships are frequently contested in primaries.

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:47 PM) Obama will win a landslide victory... I'm sure that's why the main GOP candidates decided to stay out of the race this year. Instead they put together 8 jokes into the GOP race. Against Gingrich or Santorum? Sure. I don't see a lot supporting that against Romney, but it's Feb. 1st so polls are pretty much meaningless right now. I don't know if there's a candidate that could have easily bridged the tea party/conservative wing and the "Establishment GOP" wing, but someone who did that and had even mildly favorable overall views would seriously challenge Obama.

Obama is attempting to sell homeowners down the river to protect banks from any real litigation over their many dishonest practices in the last several years. The latest move to get AG Schneiderman behind the mortgage settlement deal by placing him on a joke of an investigation committee is winning over his liberal apologists. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:38 PM) I am 100% serious about that. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=84407

A thread to discuss all things Obama-campaign related! (
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:37 PM) That actually makes sense, as I know you aren't that happy with him either. I am 100% serious about that.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 01:34 PM) Link. Man what an epic meltdown by Balta in this thread.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:33 PM) Well there is no nomination, really, because it isn't contested. But if you want to just bash Obama... well, first of all, most of the GOP'ers in here do that in every thread anyway. But you also have the Republican thread for such things. If you want to create a brand new one that is something like "Obama Campaign for Re-election Thread", feel free! I'm going to do that, and I'm going to fill it with articles critical of Obama.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:33 PM) lol @ safe haven. I made a negative comment about Obama in a thread about the Republican nomination and people flipped out. Think about that for a second. If by "people" you mean "balta" and "flipped out" you mean "contested the factual basis of your claims," then ok.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:31 PM) Either that or start a Democratic nomination thread and post every slam I can find about Obama. Go for it. I don't know why you feel a thread about the Republican nomination should be a safe haven.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:29 PM) Then go post something positive. Seriously, I'd love to see more of that. We had this exact conversation a couple of months ago.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:23 PM) Then why are you complaining? same 'buster, different day

Where else should people discuss, positively or negatively, the Republican candidates if not the Republican nomination thread?

QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 01:55 PM) Those were the two that I was looking at. Both are marketed, it seems, as beginner SLRs, but I am failing to see where they lack for my use. Last summer when we were in Maine I was frustrated with our pictures. This summer we're heading up the Rockies and I want to be better equiped. I do miss my old Cannon film camera. I shoot about a roll a year just for old time sake. I've really liked this guy's website, and he has reviews on a lot of cameras: http://www.kenrockwell.com/

QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 12:42 PM) No doubt some cops go into dick mode right away when they know they are checking IDs. I worked checking IDs in a Wisconsin border bar when the drinking age was 18 versus 21 in Illinois. We only saw the cops when they were pissed at us for something, or there had been another crash of drunk kids coming back into Illinois. But you know the attitude you get at the door, I couldn't imagine being a cop and wading into that. I got hassled quite a bit by Will County cops on the night of my 21st birthday (we went out at midnight). Funny thing was them passing right over my friend with a fake ID that said she was 26 when she was really 19.

We picked up a Nikon D3100 last year and have loved it so far. I did a little bit of research before hand, and it seemed like the choice between Canon or Nikon came down to personal preferences. The big takeaway I took was not to get too bogged down in all the technical aspects and just go shoot.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 01:28 PM) It's not surprising. Ask any average Joe who he's voting for and why, and he'll simply list off the reasons why he ISN'T voting for other candidates. I have no problem with the concept of negative campaigning, it's just that they're almost always 99.99% dishonest.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 12:13 PM) Well done to leave out the next line. Well that's the point I was making, he keeps making these quotes that are really, really easy to snip and make him look terrible. "corporations are people" "wanna bet $10000" "[$365k] wasn't very much" "i like to fire people" And, as the Romney campaign told us, there's nothing dishonest or unethical about using a politician's words verbatim but out-of-context.

That proposed amendment was awesome.

Merchants of Doubt is a pretty good book on the subject of the industry of denialism.

President John Tyler’s grandson says Newt Gingrich is a 'jerk' I only post this because it's pretty crazy that someone born in 1790 still has two living grandchildren.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 05:54 PM) Seemingly due to the Republican campaign against Planned Parenthood, the Susan G. Komen for the cure foundation has decided to stop funding breast cancer screenings through that organization. This will, of course, likely further curtail those variety of screenings, particularly in groups that are poor/not otherwise served by our health care for the wealthy system. More insight on their motivations:

Romney says he's "not concerned about the very poor" He's going to keep giving these lines all year, isn't he.
