  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 08:37 PM) That might be less of a return than Chapman got. You are a bit out over your skis on this one.
  2. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 08:13 PM) I would not have made that deal. Benintendi is going to be awesome but that's light. I would have done Benintendi, Devers, and Trey Ball though A few observations... 1) Makes you think they really did require Moncada and Benintendi for Sale; and 2) makes me think this is a framework that should have led to a deal getting done for Q.
  3. Oh well, I'm over it. Onward and upward. If nothing else, hopefully some entertainment will be provided by mlb until the Bears can disappoint us in a few short months.

Had an initial phone interview for a dream-type position today. Follow-up interview next.
  5. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 02:14 PM) Pokemon Go is killed and the White Sox make no moves. Hell of a 24 hours for me! What happened to Pokemon Go?
  6. QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 02:07 PM) Football right around the corner guys. Like that will be any better
  7. QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 11:48 AM) This sucks... I pick up my son in 15 minutes. The last hour of the deadline when all the action pours in - I'll be tied up. Gurrrr Or you may just spare yourself 750 refresh clicks for nothing...
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 09:51 AM) The flaw in his logic is he bases things based upon surplus value and the surplus value for an unrpoven player is significantly overrated in his model as it doesn't not seem to account for "bust factor" probability and seems far more focused on ascribing a surplus value based more on the ceiling vs. anything else. As a result, you include one top 10 prospect and the "surplus" value damn near equates to Sale (which for all the reasons I said above, clearly should make damn near zero plausible sense). Thank you. I have posted this a few times myself.
  9. QUOTE (CyAcosta41 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 09:30 AM) Don't let the tick-tock get to you, fellas. This is how it plays out. Hold those cards until the last few minutes. Red Sox, Dodgers, Texas, and Yankees make their best deals then. Everything until then is posturing and noise. And here -- we win on the Sales/Q fronts no matter what because similar if not better trades are available off-season (big * if an injury). All that said, still work on those Shields, Robertson, Melky, and Frazier trades if a good one is there to be had!!! Not sure if I buy the bolded...in the offseason, the option always exists to give some guy coming off injury a try, or to wait and see how the season begins, etc... I think this is the right market to move these guys. Given the state of our org, I almost think we need to roll the dice on prospects instead of a proven MLB guy anyways.
  10. Maybe Bruce coming off the table will pave the way for Melky now.
  11. QUOTE (chisox802 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 09:27 AM) Nothing is going to happen. Which is a shame because Robertson, Melky and Shields (or Gonzalez) should be unloaded. Yeah I mean I will be a bit disappointed if no big moves are made, but if at least a few of these moves aren't made, I will be really angry.
  12. Mets on the verge of completing a deal for Jay Bruce
  13. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 09:24 AM) "We discussed several deals, we were very active, but ultimately, we were not content with the packages we would receive. In all probability, standing pat with our current roster could result in a team that puts up a competitive final two months of the season." -Rick Hahn, later today probably Yeah, I am hoping not.
  14. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 09:20 AM) George Ofman ‏@georgeofman 6m6 minutes ago Chicago, IL It appears there will be no deal for Sale between Sox and Sox. Things though, could change. I hate dumb s*** like this.
  15. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 09:14 AM) It isn't though -- the "value" assigned to Moncada today doesn't have anything to do with the cost of acquiring him in the past. The Red Sox either made a good buy or a bad buy, but regardless, what they have TODAY is today's version of Moncada. It's a common stock market fallacy to think like you're suggesting. If you bought $1,000 of stock yesterday, it diminished to $500 in value today, you shouldn't balk at a chance to sell it for $600 simply because you had $1000 into it. So if today's version of Moncada is worth $75 million, and the initial investment of $63 million has been made already, then if Chris Sale is expected to be worth about $110 million, that means you should be able to extract another $35 million or so in value fairly from the Red Sox in addition to Moncada.
  16. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 09:03 AM) IMO the extra year of control makes Quintana just as valuable as Sale. I know teams won't see it that way, but it's not like Sale is that much better. The difference with Sale is he always has that one dominant game in him...say it's a WS game...he has the ability to dial it up and absolutely dominate whereas I am not sure Q does...Q is more steady, but Chris has a higher ceiling for any given game(s)...
  17. QUOTE (CyAcosta41 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 09:01 AM) Assuming that anything we're hearing is what is actually happening (and that's assuming a lot) ... so much of the posturing going on is near textbook. Sox: We hold all the cards -- this is a once in a generation trade opp (talent/surplus) and you don't get him unless we're overwhelmed. Bosox: We'll overwhelm you, but you're not getting Moncada because we've got too much invested in him already. Take any other 5 you want. And for those of us who have seen similar hard-line positions play out over and over again, Sox will allow the clock to wind-down, while Bosox will keep playing the "anyone but Moncada" card, and we'll see who caves first. Very likely that Robertson, Melky, or even Jennings gets added to break a tie. Or, and I hope not, Sox keep insisting on Moncada, but cave by taking a couple fewer prospects in order to achieve the "victory" of attaining M + B + maybe just one other (Devers?). Fascinating stuff. Oh, to be a fly on the wall. Because, unfortunately, we'll hear what we hear and never know exactly what is going on. I still wouldn't be surprised if the Yankees swoop in last minute and blow everyone out of the water. That would be classic New York. Would so love to win a deal big-time taking advantage of the hated East Coast rivals doing their thing with each other! Which is where I counter with Q. I'd do Q for their 2-5 prospects in a heartbeat. Sale...I'm torn on not getting Moncada as part of the deal.
  18. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 08:53 AM) My thoughts- if this is really the case, and DD is that certain to not give in, then maybe we should stop wasting our time there and focus on Robertson/Frazier/Melky/Shields/Gonzalez/Quintana trades. One would assume Hahn is a good multi-tasker...
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 08:31 AM) Moncada is already paid, as is the league. So you get what cost $63 million for minimum, plus his first few years making nothing. Yeah, again, I get it. And again, if you are going to dock me for that $63 million, it takes his value way the hell down...meaning, if you are going to include it in the equation for receiving Sale back, it's not like I am getting a prospect, it's like I am getting a $63 million guy that has never played.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 08:24 AM) It's not your problem. It still is a reason Boston isn't going to trade him unless maybe you gave the Sale and Q. If you add the $63 million to the cost of the deal, it makes Sale not a bargain, but a properly paid $30 million a year guy. If his contract was $30 million a year, the package isn't as good as it is when he's a $15 million a year guy. Yeah, I follow you...but that isn't how negotiations work...we look at the market value of an asset, not the investment one counterparty may have made in that asset already. If you are going to dock me that $63 million for Moncada, that decreases his value to me incredibly...because you're essentially paying a prospect $63 million. The entire point of trading Chris is to acquire prospects who make extremely little for the first 6 years of service time. This guy essentially is making $10.5 million for the first 6 years of his service time. Maybe we can just trade them straight-up for Abreu?
  21. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 08:19 AM) Would be stunned if both Sale and Quintana are still on #WhiteSox roster later today https://twitter.com/scotgregor/status/760132595078225920 Wow, that is surprising!
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 08:17 AM) The Red Sox paid Moncada a $31.5 million bonus, and paid the league a $31.5 million penalty. They are invested $63 million. The Sox would pay him minimal amounts. It's Boston that doesn't want that $63 million investment to go away. The penalty is their own fault...I can understand the $31.5 million being part of the equation...the $63 million...not my problem.
  23. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 08:09 AM) Phil Rogers ‏@philgrogers 1m1 minute ago Names of interest in @whitesox Sale/Quintana talks w/@Dodgers: LHP Julio Urias, 1B-OF Clay Bellinger, OF Alex Verdugo, 2B Willie Calhoun. I agree with these names If I'm the Dodgers, I am not moving Urias for Q.
  24. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 08:08 AM) I will continue to say, I find it highly improbable that Sale is dealt now. The Sox would be taking much greater risk, most likely, dealing him now, because it is far less likely they can get young, proven MLB assets (such as a Betts) if you deal at the deadline. If you wait to the off-season, the package shifts a bit, but you also probably get yourself at least a guy or two who lower the potential "floor" of the deal. In a lot of the "rumored" deals I've seen, It would almost take every guy hitting their ceiling for the trade to have very much upside. For example, if a deal is centered around Urias, then the liklihood he even becomes something close to Sale is pretty unlikely, so to win out or even get fair, you need to get a few other guys who are solid contributors (and to have that, you need enough to make up for the typical bust rates, etc). It isn't like we have a guy with one year left, where you realize, you are talking about a shorter-duration in terms of value given up, but in Sale and Q's case, we have years of control, so the benefit of these young players "and the additional years" of control is minimized a bit as well. I'd honestly rather roll the dice on the unproven guys at this point I think. If the deal is Sale for Betts and Eduardo Rodriguez, for example, I dunno how much that really helps us.
  25. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 08:06 AM) Yoan Moncada viewed as unlikely piece in Chris Sale talks. Potential @RedSox package leads w/Andrew Benintendi, Eduardo Rodriguez. https://twitter.com/philgrogers/status/760128750784839680 I like Rodriguez, but he needs to be the third of fourth piece for me, not the second.
