QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 02:47 PM) They are probably perfectly fine with that. They get to bring those prospects up next year and we get to wallow at the .500 line waiting for Sale's contract to expire. Yeah, that is true, but you can't allow them to dictate what you get for assets like Sale and Quintana just because they are the Red Sox.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 02:44 PM) See I dont think they are willing to give up either of the two top prospects for Q. I think if you want one of them(Your only getting 1) you need to give up Sale. Well I just can't take you seriously if that is the case. You've got no business being at the big boy table if you want to play with money from the kiddie table.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 02:40 PM) Probably. But if they really wanted to get rid of them they would have to compromise which I must say sounds better than keeping both going into the offseason. Hahn trying to keep his job trading for other various bandaids. I think there is a deal there to be made for Quintana without Moncada. But I'm sorry, I just can't have a serious conversation with you if you want Sale and you are trying to claim a prospect is off-limits.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 02:35 PM) I mean if you really want to trade Sale to Boston I'm pretty positive you wont be getting Moncada back in return. I'm not sure they would trade him for anyone. And that's why they are frustrated.

At the very least, Hahn needs to be working on bringing something back for Cabrera and Robertson tonight.

So are we actively trying to move Melky? He is definitely doing his best to help us out... -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) Sano and Vargas look like the same video game player model on both sides of the diamond And I can't help but think I'm seeing David Ortiz 20 years ago... -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 12:11 PM) The end result of this play was the batter was out. Frazier didn't cost the team anything negative. Just gave posters something more to gripe about LOL If only we could all live in this fantasyland where only you reside. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 12:07 PM) Like I said, Robin has many faults, but you can't pin every little thing on him. Especially when a veteran that had been with the team for half a season does something stupid I think that is the point we are making though...its not just guys that come from our own organization...we bring guys in from other organizations in and poison them too. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 11:56 AM) Yea, Robin has plenty of issues, no need to pile on ones that have nothing to do with him I know you are frustrated, but this is bulls*** At some point it's the culture that the manager sets...our culture obviously f***ing sucks. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 10:48 AM) Mods, feel free to delete if necessary, but we're 25 minutes from first pitch with no gamethread. With the deadline only 14 hours away, figure a lot of people will be watching this one closely. I'm sure it's just a day off, but no Abreu today. -
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 10:40 AM) Jon Heyman @JonHeyman 49s50 seconds ago Manhattan, NY dodgers talking about archer and/or moore from TB, as @jaysonst @Ken_Rosenthal said. not much Sale talk around LAD lately Interesting in that these guys seem to be getting attention based on stuff and perhaps a short history...neither have been particularly good as of late.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 10:24 AM) Honestly, I'm not a minor league prospect geek other than knowing what's going on with our own guys. Just saying I've heard Reds and Dodgers have been working on a Bruce deal. Yeah, I wasn't necessarily trying to criticize you...more just the rumor mill in general.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 10:18 AM) Reds and Dodgers have been rumored heavily the last few days. See, this is where I get confused...we hear that we're asking for too much when we ask for Urias/Bellinger/Verdugo in a Sale or Q deal...but then you talk about Bellinger and Verdugo for Bruce? It seems like there is a rapidly diminishing point of returns or something...
-
QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 10:11 AM) That's what I was thinking. Why Bruce, in particular? FWIW, Bruce is in the Reds lineup for the moment.
-
QUOTE (Mattchoo @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 09:59 AM) Why in the world would we trade a hall of fame talent pitcher for mass quantities of garbage or borderline everyday players. This is my biggest beef with most all these prospects. I want talent proven. Or a player that has a ceiling of .300, 40, 120 (the simple stats). This is why I wish we went to the Cubs and asked for Schwarber, Baez, Soler, and a pitcher. As long as Schwarber can come back from injury his ceiling is what I just stated Yeah, this can't be about quantity as much as it needs to be about quality.
-
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 09:45 AM) If the Sox aren't going to make any bigger moves, they just traded one of their better relievers from their already thin bullpen for a fourth outfielder which weakens them for next year. So if the plan was to give it one more shot with this group in 2017, this is a bad move as it stands alone. Duke's contract should not have been an issue. This move should signal that the Sox are about to make some big moves, or at least a flurry of smaller moves. Otherwise it looks pretty much like making a trade just for the sake of making a trade. Agreed.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 07:58 AM) It doesn't look like they liked him as much as Keenyn Walker. Maybe a decent 4th OF is a real nice return for Duke. But as I posted before and has been posted a couple times since, there really is no reason to make this trade right now unless something big is going to happen. LH relief is needed. Relief is needed. He doesn't make a ton of money, and the prospect coming back isn't overwhelming. Some dominoes are going to fall. Yeah, this is how I feel. If they don't decide to rebuild, they are going to need this same piece next year anyways. Why trade him away for a 4th OF just so they have to go extend themselves out another 3 years on Duke's replacement? Obviously Duke is expendable if you get a good piece back, but this doesn't appear to be someone they couldn't live without. If they wanted to reload for next year, they could have held Duke and kept him for next year's pen, and unloaded him at the deadline next year, probably for more. At worst, were they not sure of their direction, they could have made this move tomorrow after determining what other moves could be made. To me, this means a flurry of other moves should be coming.
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 07:54 AM) Feel like this move is pretty telling about what direction they want to go in. Especially if they deal Robertson. Ok, so what does it tell you? I suspect I know, but I'll bite nonetheless...
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 07:47 AM) New Trier GM acquire New Trier minor leaguer. Somewhat sketchy IMO. Anyways, not a huge fan at first glance. Guy looks like JB Shuck's replacement, i.e. a 4th OF. I obviously wasn't expecting a ton for Duke, but would have rather gambled on a lower level prospect with upside than a high floor, limited ceiling type. Yeah, the thing with Duke is, he is one of the guys you don't have to move just to move...because you're going to need pen arms next year and he would be just as attractive at next year's deadline as this year's (if not more). Maybe they actually like this guy, because there was no reason to give Duke away.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 07:44 AM) Been following him for a while. More like 4th outfielder. He has some big fans in the prospect ranking world Well, I meant more for the remainder of this season
-
Alrighty then. Looks like we've acquired Melky's replacement.

It seems crazy how little has happened thus far, White Sox or otherwise...
