  1. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 08:00 AM) haha, wait...what? Sarcasm.
  2. Wow. Surprises me no one else caught it.
  3. QUOTE (FT35 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 07:40 AM) Rosenthal just removed a tweet after 3 minutes that said BREAKING: White Sox Red Sox agree on Sale. Sox would receive Benintendi and Devers as a part of the deal. No Moncada. Those guys are good...but if we trade Sale and it doesn't bring back a team's #1 prospect...wow. The real account?
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 07:33 AM) But you can bet your ass that if the package ends up mediocre because the Sox didn't exercise enough patience, those fans will be throwing a fit about wasting their best asset. Well some folks will be throwing a fit irregardless of what the return is. Others will be underwhelmed with the package. Still others will be optimistic about the new players coming to the Sox. Ultimately, it's just anxiety with some frustration sprinkled in because we lack information. Without having any idea of what is actually happening, we're all just left to speculate...
  5. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 07:27 AM) Soxtalk: SALE SHOULD BRING BACK EVERY TEAM'S TOP TEN PROSPECTS, EVEN IF THEY'RE ALL THE BEST IN THE GAME! DON'T WANNA PAY UP? TOUGH! YOU DON'T GET SALE THEN! *all reports indicate teams are interested but balking at Sox' high asking prices, deadline passes with no trade of Sale* Soxtalk: HAHN IS AN ABSOLUTE FAILURE FOR NOT TRADING SALE! THIS TEAM HAS NO CHANCE TO WIN EVER AGAIN AND NEEDS TO TRADE EVERYONE WHILE THEY STILL HAVE VALUE! I understand the point you are making, but this really is not what many of us are saying.
  6. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 08:58 PM) If the Red Sox won't include Moncada or Benintendi....then give us Devers + Eduardo Rodriguez. 3B Devers, SP Rodriguez, SP Kopech, 3B Chavis, and OF Basabe for Quintana. Nope. I need to get at least one back. Q is worth that high-end talent.
  7. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 08:39 PM) Correct.......but if you have determined that a rebuild is the best course of action for the long term health of your franchise, there is an imaginary date floating out there when the value of Sale and Quintana begins to lower. It's the job of the front office to know when that date is. You want franchise killing? Never moving your best assets because you didn't feel like you got 100% proper value back, and you continue on the path of 78 wins a season for 3, 4 more years until both leave via FA, leaving you with a draft pick. Or trading them in their last seasons and getting one of these type of prospects instead of 3 or 4.
  8. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 08:32 PM) Rumors are that Boston doesn't want to move Moncada or Benintendi. Hahn probably hung up on them if that's the case. Yeah, I agree with him if that is the case. I think there is an understanding that they can't give us their entire farm system. But if they want Sale or Q, they are going to have to gut the top end of it a bit.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 08:11 PM) I have yet to hear anything to indicate we have been offered anywhere near that kind of a deal. In fact all I keep reading is how teams DON'T want to offer their top guys. What deal am I missing here? What I don't want to do is trade Chris Sale for a lesser package and end up with an assortment of Avi Garcia's so that we can win 70 games a year instead. Yeah, I don't think anyone is advocating to move him for nowhere near what we are hearing. For instance, from Boston, we've heard the names Moncada/Benintendi/Devers/Kopech, etc. I don't think anyone wants a package of Devers and three other guys nowhere near the top 100. What we're saying is if they Red Sox won't give you both Moncada and Benintendi, would you accept Benintendi/Devers/Kopech/ and another guy or two that perhaps is not quite as well regarded? Do you need to INSIST on Moncada? It's all a matter of degree. I, for instance, would insist on being able to choose any prospect I want for Sale, I don't care who he is. No one can be off the table. That doesn't mean I need to get both your top guys, but I need to choose which one I want. As for Q, I can understand maybe you holding one guy back, as long as you are still willing to pony up in terms of the 2nd and third guys coming back. Those are the types of decisions I think we're talking about here. Not something where you give me a package led by Kopech or something.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 08:04 PM) Why wouuld you take a lesser deal on your best player? Because sometimes a lesser deal is better than the alternative, which is what he is worth continuing to start for us. What would you prefer, a package of 4 prospects, where 1 turns into an all-star and three become above-average major leaguers, or 3.3 more years of Chris starting for us while we win an average of 75 games and make zero playoff appearances? Again, I don't think the point of no return is now, but I think it's getting awfully close.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 07:54 PM) Sure you can. You can just wait a couple years until their price gets to a point in which a team is actually willing to pay. You don't just give up years of control of underpaid aces just to move on. You get full value, or you wait. Therein lies the problem, however. Their trade value decreases as you wait longer...because those years of control are lessening.
  12. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 07:47 PM) He was advocating that they take less and compromise. f*** that. Well it goes back to Dick's real estate analogy again...if you have a $10 million house, it may take you a LONG time to get fair value, or else you may need to sell it for less than market value, due to a lack of buyers. I think Baron's point is that Sale and Q aren't doing anything for us on our roster...so maybe the only alternative is to take a little less than market value. I would suggest you wait until the offseason if that is the case, but you can't really just keep holding them and saying "I'm not getting the 5 prospects I desire."
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 07:40 PM) This is a really bad post. There is no compromise. THey need a franchise altering haul for Sale and Quintana or it's not worth trading them. Not really a debate. Not sure what is so hard to understand about it either. Well, except for the fact that they suck ass with them...yes, they need to hit big if they do move them, but they aren't exactly lighting the world on fire with them. Not sure what is so hard to understand about that.
  14. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 07:12 PM) Finally a tweet mentioning both Sale and Q. Interesting that these are all coming from local medial, however.
  15. Jesus...where is the twitterverse? Incredibly silent tonight.
  16. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 05:09 PM) Ya, I'm absolutely going to be pissed off if they don't trade off Q or Sale and some of the other valuable assets. It's right in theory to say that we have them for a while so we don't have to trade them right now but this organization DOES have to trade them right now. There's too much history of them standing pat and then trying to reload in the offseason just to fail again and I bet that's what happens if they're both here going into the offseason. Add that to the fact that this is the perfect market to trade one(or both if I had my way) of them and their value will start to diminish with the less time we have control of them and the time for a trade is now. +1
  17. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 04:59 PM) For the trade deadline I'm hoping the Sox move Robertson, Melky, Shields and Abreu. Unless a contender steps up right now and is willing to pay dearly for Sale or Q, I think the best time to trade one of them would be the winter. Would also be open to the idea of trading Fulmer for a position prospect. Why Abreu?
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 04:35 PM) They have three years to f*** it up, I'm not gonna flip out if they don't do it now The problem is the value of these assets diminishes as the length of the team-friendly term is reduced. I hear you, there is still time, but at some point, you either s*** or get off the pot.
  19. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 04:32 PM) No, I'm not being sarcastic one bit. You have not one but two of the top left handed starters under team control with very good deals. You don't concede at all. You don't settle at all. There is literally no need for the sox to make any move that does not greatly benefit them The time where we can continue to say this is very quickly running out...
  20. How many of you would pay $250 to see Hahn's text messages in real time over the next 20 hours?
  21. QUOTE (kevo880 @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 04:29 PM) Man, had my heart racing when I read that. Mine too...
  22. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 04:19 PM) I'll take it as a positive too, but I hope this isn't Merkin (obviously a mouthpiece for the org), trying to manufacture more interest Even if it is, at least it shows a willingness on their part, which is the biggest thing in my book.
  23. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 04:11 PM) Who said the Sox are going into a rebuild right now? If they are, they need to move either Sale or Q between now and March. Guys like Melky and Robertson aren't going to get you enough talent to do it properly. I think it's a lot more likely that the Sox try to retool a little over the next six months and save the major trades for next July. If that is the case, then they shouldn't trade him. I sure hope it isn't.
  24. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 04:06 PM) Melky is the only .800 OPS hitter on the Sox roster. If you deal him, you need to replace that production somehow... either via another trade or via shelling out way too much money for Reddick, Cespedes, or Rasmus this winter. I don't see the Sox being major players in free agency this winter. What would be the expected return on Melky? Maybe a Top 50 prospect and a decent bullpen arm? If so, I'd wait until next year to deal him. You shouldn't be worrying about that going into the beginning of a rebuild. They need to assemble as much young talent as possible and figure out how to piece it together later.
  25. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 03:54 PM) Quintana, Sale deals still in play for White Sox https://t.co/VPtpZKe3tI via @mlb https://twitter.com/scottmerkin/status/759884479313960960 That is an interesting tweet from Merkin...
