  1. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 06:48 PM) Damn dont you hate offense from a catcher. I hate it. No need to gloat.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 06:32 PM) I would image the entity that runs the parking lot Probably the owner of the car. I imagine the ticket that comes with the parking spot has all kinds of disclaimers on it.
  3. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 06:11 PM) Are you guys having fun or what? ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED? I WANT A BAT
  4. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 06:05 PM) I'm pretty sure he did it to avoid crashing into the wall Oh blah. He wasn't really running that hard. He could have easily braced himself and then gently hit the padding.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 02:29 PM) I realize he's still kind of a lottery ticket, but nothing about "aging, oft-injured outfielder from hitters park in NL" screams "This will work out for white sox!" Well, first of all, he's only 29. His age, over the life of his contract, really means nothing to us. Our park is really a hitters park as well; while it should be expected that there will be some drop off from his Coors numbers, it's not as if he's moving from Coors to Minneapolis. While he does battle injuries often, he's also been a 3-5 WAR player in the recent past, and is performing like one at the moment. Again, yes, he has warts. But if you want to add a bat an impact bat, there aren't many better options without moving a piece like Q.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 11:32 AM) Since June 1 he's hitting .224 with a .589 OPS. If you don't care whether you win this season that's fine. If you're trying to win right now, that's a hole that can be filled, at least temporarily, without having to swallow $20 million or so on the contract of someone struggling. He's not been struggling at all... And what good hitter are you going to go get without taking on a decent-sized contract?
  7. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 11:14 AM) That still isn't good enough to warrant giving up Adams. Well, that's a decision that will need to be made. If the alternative is sticking with this offense, then so be it. But I don't think the Rockies are going to move the guy for salary relief right now. They're going to need at least a couple pieces for him.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 11:12 AM) If you could guarantee he could hit at that rate for the White Sox (as he transitioned to the AL and a set of unfamiliar pitchers), it would be "okay" but certainly not a steal. The thing I'm more concerned with is his abysmal OPS numbers in August and September from 2012-2014. Seems like he has a history of fading down the stretch, and/or he's been injured and not playing at 100% in the 2nd half of those seasons. Who can pull up his defensive ratings this year? If you're going to push Avi out of RF, the numbers better make sense. Granted, it's hard to be MUCH worse than Avi or Hanley Ramirez. Once upon a time, CarGo was a Gold Glove caliber fielder, but what about the last 2-3 seasons? He's been fairly strong defensively this season according to fangraphs.
  9. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 11:08 AM) No it wouldn't and there is a big difference between Pentecost and Pompey. Quintana and LaRoche for Edwin Encarnacion, Daniel Norris, Aaron Sanchez and Max Pentecost. We want to gamble on Q for EE in a poor year and prospects?....not for me.
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 10:58 AM) Sanchez, Norris, Alford, Pentecost, Stroman, Pompey, Reid-Foley, Urena, DJ Davis, Tellez, etc. They have more than enough to get it done. Whether they're willing to give up the pieces is different. If we trade Q this week, it isn't going to be for prospects.
  11. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 11:03 AM) Tulowitzki's career road OPS is .817, which is still very very good out of the SS position. CarGo's career road OPS is .752, which is mediocre out of RF. It's not really that comparable. His road OPS this year is .768. That is higher than everyone on the current White Sox other than Abreu and Eaton, and Eaton is at .769.
  12. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 10:59 AM) Tulo's numbers away from Coors are far better than CarGo's. I get that most players tend to do better at home than the road but CarGo's splits are in another galaxy away from Coors. The guy to me is a good, not great hitter who gets injured a ton and is not worth getting anywhere near that contract and trading away talent to land him. Fair enough. Which bat are you going out to get?
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 10:57 AM) Tulo has been viewed a lot more favorably than CarGo for several years, IMO, and as noted in the other threads a fair number of people say that's a huge risk for the Jays. They're both pretty similar in regards to their streakiness. I won't deny that Tulowitzki is the more consistent player of the two, but outside of the last year, CarGo has put up some pretty big numbers himself.
  14. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 10:54 AM) What does that have to do with us and CarGo? His road numbers are uninspiring, he has a bad contract, and he has an injury history. Pass. I certainly wouldn't give up Adams for him. Does that not sound like Tulowitzki? Who they just received a first round draft pick for, among others, along with $50 million in salary relief? You think they are going to turn around and dump Cargo to us for nothing now?
  15. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 10:52 AM) I'll give them a No Thanks for CarGo. Care to elaborate? No one will deny the guy has warts, but with what you've seen from this offense, are you comfortable w/o adding a bat? If you aren't, what bat do you think we're going to get in this market?
  16. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 10:49 AM) You can't be serious. I don't want to give up one good prospect for him, let alone two. Maybe you didn't just see the Tulo trade?
  17. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 10:42 AM) I know he has been a hot topic among a handful of people and Rockies are planning on moving him so the question; What are you willing to give up in order to acquire Cargo? Micah and Spencer, they pay $15 million.
  18. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 10:34 AM) Let's try to realistic here guys. Don't overvalue your team's players. Donaldson >>>> Quintana. They're not going to move Donaldson anyways. Problem is, they don't really have a bat that we're going to move Q for...everyone else is too old or too young.
  19. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 10:28 AM) Q for Norris, Sanchez and Alford. Im so frightened to move Q...if you bungle the Shark deal, fine...not the end of the world...if you bungle a Q deal...you've just traded away one of your most valuable assets in the midst of a race you have a reasonable chance of winning.
  20. Reyes, who is not the picture of health himself, got off to a pretty slow start. He's been pretty solid for the last 3 months or so. Either way, one has to love this deal for the Rockies. Ditching the payroll and getting back a useful piece and a top prospect is pretty good work.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 08:45 AM) Do some really think the return for 2 months of Samardjiza is going to reshape the future of the franchise vs. taking the comp pick? You never know, to be honest. Is it likely, probably not. But all it takes is one player to turn into a Chris Sale or a Mike Trout or Josh Donaldson to reshape the future of the franchise. If it does, it obviously won't be because either team knew the player who was traded at the time would turn into that eventually.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 07:38 AM) Dick, you have to stop doing this. It's nonsense. You can't pull any random post from any poster to support a post and claim hypocrisy on who you are talking to. I do think that KW's hard-headedness after 2010 put this team in bad straits for moving forward. I do NOT think that KW is the right GM for this team right now. I think he would have been great to take over the Padres/Toronto, teams that need to go for it. But we need someone who is calm and patient, and Hahn seems like that guy! But to me his moves have GOT to hit, and if we cleaned house after this year to start over I wouldn't say he was treated unfairly. I don't know how anyone can really say that there has to be one way to build the team. I want our organization to be flexible. To take advantage of market inefficiencies and to be able to react fluidly to the progress of the major league team to ensure a consistently competitive team. This is not particularly well-achieved with a rigid plan, such as, only assembling prospects, or only assembling free agent veterans. It requires the ability to take advantage of opportunities that present themselves, which I felt like we were trying to do last offseason. I felt like we did a great job of balancing today against tomorrow. I don't feel like any of these contracts will significantly alter our course moving forward. And yet, we provided an opportunity to compete this year if things broke right. The overall key to this is maintaining payroll flexibility through identifying your key contributors early and signing them to club-friendly contracts. Drafting well and scouting internationally. Many organizations have shown being active with free agents or in the trade market and utilizing an intelligent development plan are not mutually exclusive. I think we've begun to go down that road and I'm pretty pleased with our course, last offseason included.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 06:42 AM) Reyes looked horrible against the White Sox. Tulo is owed big money. The trade makes his contract total no trade and he picks up $2 million for the move. Does anyone really think that is something the White Sox would have been interested in? Honestly, not sure what Toronto is thinking. It's as if they want to give back some of their gains from the Donaldson move because they feel guilty.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 06:35 AM) Hahn knew what he was getting into, and had plenty of opportunities to leave. It still is mind boggling every White Sox decision that is deemed wrong is KW, and so many think Hahn will always do the right thing. The fact is this particular "inside" informer is to be taken with a huge grain of salt. He never had a signing or trade correct this winter, and had plenty of wrong information. Just remember when blaming everything on KW, when Keppinger was released with 2 years left on his contract, Hahn said that signing was on him. I do know KW overruled Hahn in the Peavy trade when Hahn wanted Middlebrooks before Avi was added. Now, Avi has his warts, but you would have to think he is worth a bit more than Middlebrooks. People are basing KW knows nothing and Hahn knows everything on fantasy not reality. I honestly like the dynamic. Rick works as sort of the angel on Kenny's shoulder
