  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 02:31 PM) if you do it, you send the message that you are rebuilding for the long term, and not the short term, and you have to live with those consequences as a White Sox organization that is still marred by the history of White Flag. I don't know that it matters anymore...this team sucks...plain and simple. I enjoy having Chris as much as the next guy, but he can only pitch once every 5 games (if we're lucky). If I could get the right package of mlb close-to-ready position prospects, I'd make the deal. If not, I wait til next year and regroup. There is enough pitching around that if we made the right tweaks and got a lot of luck, we might be back in the hunt as early as next year, but I think we blew that chance last season. Things have gone precisely as I expected them to go this year. And I don't see them likely changing any time in the near future unless drastic, wholesale changes are made. Given our assets, I think the best way to effectuate such changes is by moving Chris. That would give us a chance to get things back on track within the next 2 years and give the fans a good, young, and most importantly, entertaining club to watch and grow with. If we try and do it halfway, at least IMHO, Chris may very well end up being a lone bright spot on a middling team for the next 3-5 years. You would have to get the "right" package though...not just a package of guys that would help, but "the" package of guys...those that fit your short and long-term plans.
  2. Ahhahhh...so I am not the only crazy one to suggest this....

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 08:54 AM) that's what he looks like (really the brown's just on his head right now, my phone camera makes everything brownish) but he's a mutt from a rescue so who knows. He was pushing 17 pounds at about 10 weeks old so he's going to be a big boy. He's a cutie...the paws are usually a pretty good indication of how big he will be...I'll bet he ends up being 70-80 pounds. Keep us posted as to how he is doing!

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 07:49 AM) I have an intern working for me that bathes in cologne every morning. I need to tell this kid to lighten up on it a bit. We have a PhD here that is of some form of Asian descent (I am not sure which). She wears all kinds of crazy stuff, including fishnet stockings and the like...no one says anything to her about her attire because they are just afraid of getting called insensitive to her culture (my guess, anyway).
  6. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 10:50 AM) Just tell her you enjoy talking to her and ask...if she says she has a boyfriend, apologize and say you weren't sure about that before you asked her, but figured it'd be better to find out this way than to spy on her for such personal information and end up in Venezuela like Edward Snowden. I'm sure she'll understand. Yeah, if there is no ring on the finger, it isn't really your concern whether she has a boyfriend or not, unless of course he shows up and you see him in person. Let her deal with whether she wants to tell you she has a boyfriend or not

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 10:50 AM) Id say/send something that in a roundabout way gets your answer: "Hey I know they were going to call this morning, I have to step out for lunch should I wait or do you think they want to call this afternoon" That way you try and pry information without seeming like your desperate for a call back. I read that as they were NOT going to call earlier than this morning (which is somewhat odd, btw), and so that could mean basically any time now that Tuesday morning is over.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 10:38 AM) I have direct emails and contact numbers for both recruiters - and of course everyone I've interviewed with so far. I'm getting to the point where I'm sick of the process. The whole thing started with a phone interview well over a month ago. But dammit, the job is that good. Yeah, unfortunately sometimes you are just at their mercy a bit, and it sucks. I've waited months to hear back, and I've heard back the next day before...sometimes people are just not good at managing the process and you have to deal with it. But I wouldn't hesitate to give the recruiter a call; it shows you have some initiative.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 10:32 AM) Two different recruiters working simultaneously to f*** with my head. I'd give it a day or two, and then I'd call or email them...did they provide you with their cards or contact info at any point, or do you just have their number because they called you earlier? I'd just say hello and that you were wondering if they had any updates on when your next interview may be scheduled, because there seemed to be quite a bit of confusion on Friday and you are trying to plan out the next week or so on your work calendar. Recruiters usually just find the candidates and arrange for them to meet the folks that will eventually make the hiring decisions, so I have never worried about bugging those people a bit when the process is a bit unorganized.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 10:29 AM) I'm in hell right now, and all I can do is vent on Soxtalk. I received this call on Friday to schedule the next interview with a VP as well as the person I'd be working for whom I've already interviewed with for Tuesday (today) at 3pm. Down, let's do this. Time to go take a job. I get a call 20 minutes later saying 3pm doesn't work, can I do 3:30pm? Ok, fine by me. I get a call an hour later saying that Tuesday no longer works, because the people interviewing me got called into a big meeting and I should hear something "no earlier than Tuesday morning" (ie this morning). "No earlier than Tuesday morning" sure is open-ended. Also, Tuesday morning has passed. What the hell do I take from all of this? Someone talk me down from the ledge. Who has been your contact person there? Is it one of these guy's admins or a recruiter directly?
  11. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 10:02 AM) She is a friend. She moved from another state a few months ago and she randomly became friends with another girl I am friends with and has been going out with us to concerts/bars/etc. So this wasnt like when I immediately saw her I went insane, just the more I hung out with her the more I started to like her and then last week she made a comment and we started talking and it just was amazing how much we have in common. She said things that I think about, that are just kind of off the wall ideas and it was intellectually meaningful. And then I was like f***, Im really messed up about this girl now. Good news is that most of my friends are behind this, the bad news is I dont feel like bothering them and being like "You need to make sure she comes out tonight" lol. So now its like a countdown to Friday (50/50 Ill see her) and then trying to read the situation, because it will be the first time Ive seen her since then. You are overthinking the s*** out of this....next time you see her, an hour or so into the evening, just tell her you really enjoyed talking with her the last time you saw her and ask for her phone number.
  12. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 09:44 AM) Im so fixated on this girl its impossible to think. My mind is seriously warped at this point. lol The worst part is Ive known her for a few months, just didnt realize how awesome she was. Cant tell what the situation is though, shes got a boyfriend or something, has never really mentioned him much and he doesnt live here. So basically Im worthless at this point as I pretty much cant go 5 minutes without thinking about her. Ruh roh Where do you see her? Work?
  13. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 09:10 AM) My theory would be that she doesn't want you to lose weight because then you would be able to get a girl hotter than her. And/or it just makes her feel guilty about the way she looks herself...
  14. Is your significant other overweight or out of shape?
  15. Played for the first time in 2 years on Saturday morning. Drove the ball the best I have in my life, but couldn't make a putt over 5 feet and the greens were pretty beat up from the heat and the holiday players. I've always struck the ball really well coming off long layoffs, and then I seem to pick up bad habits the more I play...anyone else like this?
  16. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 6, 2013 -> 06:28 AM) heyyyy we DO all agree more or less. I'm a big believer in Paleo/Primal/Mark Sisson's stuff, and I agree that 100-150 carbs a day is a great thing to shoot for, but I've always felt that going lower than that is a slippery slope. So many people take the low carb thing to the illogical extreme and turn it into NO carb or Mark has still never convinced me on the IF and Keto front, and nothing I've read has either. To me, it makes much more logical sense to eat as many fruits, veggies, lean meats, fish, nuts, seeds and eggs as you want, regardless of carb intake. Because the dirty little secret no one seems to understand is if you eat the above foods, it's almost impossible to get fat, and it's impossible NOT to lose weight, regardless of calorie counting. Agreed...use common sense and moderation and eat naturally occurring foods. It's as simple as that. I was having this same discussion with the fiancée yesterday. She wants to go on some crazy low carb, low sugar diet with all these special rules. I said if the rules add the structure you need to stick to it, by all means, follow them. But otherwise, they are just marketing ploys.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 02:38 PM) He's still 24 so he's still early in his career, but his performance all around this year is very disappointing. You guys know my thoughts on Viciedo as well...but let me ask this because I honestly haven't been watching...does he look like he is recognizing pitches and what pitchers are trying to do to him any better? Or still the same approach? I see his home runs are way down...
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 11:42 AM) The rotation itself is balanced way better with Danks gone instead of Peavy. How has Danksy looked recently? I confess I haven't watched a game for more than a month (by far my longest sabbatical from White Sox baseball in 25 years)...
  19. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 08:05 AM) I don't get this Granderson thing. He's a super nice guy, I understand, but he's a defensive liability in CF, he strikes out nigh 200 times a year at this point, he can only hit righties, he's going to require an expensive multi-year deal, and he would block most of our best prospects from playing CF at the ML level. It's a bad fit. I couldn't agree more.
  20. I don't care guys...40 homers and 100+ RBI is still solid production, regardless of what he hits or how many times he k's...
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 4, 2013 -> 08:16 AM) I'd still be happy to save 1/2 of his contract for next year. Obviously it's all relative to the package you're getting...but I'm not moving him just to save $6-8 million. He may be worth well more as a trade piece next year in the last year of his deal.
  22. Dunn just had a hell of a June....991 OPS and is on pace to hit 44 home runs and knock in 111. f***ing eating any money. He'll, I'd just keep him if I didn't get a nice piece or two for him.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 04:52 PM) Apparently there's a next round of interviews to meet with a VP as well as the hiring manager again. I have a weird feeling that this is to get approval to hire me. We shall see. Did they schedule the interview with you yet?
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 03:51 PM) Give us the address and date and time and you may see some 'Wedding Crashers' at your wedding if it's in Vegas. Does the heat affect summertime wedding planning in Vegas? I would think wearing black on a 115-degree day would bother some. It's not til next spring, Greg. Should be a high of 80 and a low of 60.
  25. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 02:56 PM) I'm in What about flowers, chairs, chair covers, tables, lighting, transportation to and from, center pieces. There is so much s*** I never even knew existed. Make sure you know all the details. We had 300 people about so you can see how much discount we got and how much stuff we cut out. Yeah, we're at about $2500 for the equipment and linens and all that s***. I think the b**** is going to be the flowers. Badger, you can be Rock's date
