QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 02:37 PM) How many guests? We called in every favor we had, stripped it way down and even knew the country club owner and got the food at cost and the liquor for free and still broke 20k. 135ish... The food is going to be $4500ish...the booze probably $2200 or so...that is two bartenders and premium booze with all the supplies and what not...photographer I went nuts on and spent $6k, with $3k coming out of my own pocket. DJ wants $2k for two djs, 4 turntables, custom dj booths, video screens with music videos, etc... s***, you want to come?

Konerko/Crain to DL - Purcey/Morel called up
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 02:12 PM) If he can show health, he will still bring a big return. The other GM's may actually view it partially as a positive because he'll get three weeks of much-needed rest.

Konerko/Crain to DL - Purcey/Morel called up
I disagree with you guys on how badly this will hurt his value...these GM's aren't idiots...they know what his workload has been and his injury history is. If he comes back and has 2-3 outings like he was having regularly before, I really don think they're going to lose that much value.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 10:34 AM) Thats what I ate last night, I f***ing love turkey burgers. Pickles mustard and a nicely grilled turkey burger. Fantastic. For the little extra fat, I'll take the bison all night long.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 10:20 AM) I believe its leaner than chicken but ill have to check that. Its also f***ing delicious if cooked properly. It's about 11g of fat per serving, which is about 40% leaner than your lean ground beef. A turkey burger is about 9g of fat per serving.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 06:32 AM) No reason they have to, but I would make sure to run that by the future wife too. Good chance she has the whole "matching" thing in her mind. Yeah, we're trying to figure that part out...her bridesmaid's will be wearing black I think...so it would probably be best if my guys wore the same or perhaps grey suits... So yesterday afternoon I went over to the Tom Ford store...there are only 3 in the country...you guys are getting one in August I guess though....HOLY s***, that was fun! I was basically on a recon mission to see what size I am in his various fits, because I am toying with the notion of getting one of his suits online (where they are offered much cheaper because they are from previous seasons). Anyways, I tried on the midnight blue tuxedo that Daniel Craig wore in Skyfall....oh man was that a beautiful f***ing piece of clothing...it was like putting on a suit of armor...the fit was absolutely incredible. When the salesman told me the price, I shrugged it off like it was nothing...which was the best part of all

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 07:50 PM) Rental tux. Strongly considered buying a suit but didn't want to make my groomsmen have to. Spent most of our money on the food and drinks. Yeah...still trying to figure out what to do with the groomsmen...I really don't even like the idea of them all wearing the same thing...

QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 12:11 PM) I bought a suit. A snappy black suit, white shirt and gold tie, with cufflinks that had belonged to my Grandad. Didn't let her see it 'til the day. I've gotten great wear out of the suit since. I was thinking I would do the same, JD...two can play at that game, right?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 11:38 AM) Tux's are cheap. 100-200 bucks at most. A decent suit is gonna run you 2-3 times that easy. edit: and let her pick what you wear. Yeah, I don't think I can bring myself to rent...usually, the groom's tux is actually free if you bring your groomsmen in to get theirs there. And NOOOO she is not choosing what I wear. I am one dapper S-O-B...if I am paying through the nose for these pictures, I am going to look like one bad mfer!

The suit...what did you guys wear? The rental tux? Buy a tux? Buy a suit? Go with a tie? Bowtie? I'm thinking I'm going to buy something...just not sure if I want to go with a tux or with a suit. A suit I will actually use again. A tux will sit in my closet and collect dust most likely. So I am leaning towards a suit...

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 09:12 AM) Thats what the oil is for. I actually prefer vinegary dressings over that other stuff, but to each his own. Yeah, the olive oil can play the same role...I like olive oil on a salad with more greens in it...I prefer ranch on salads with more colorful veggies. I eat a salad every day at work which consists of cucumbers, bell peppers, tomato, hard-boiled eggs, shredded carrot, etc...I put a decent amount of ranch on it..something like that is still going to be very healthy overall, and as long as you don't eat like absolute s*** at other meals and you get off your ass once in awhile and workout, it's really not going to make a difference.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 08:03 AM) Second on the salad bar thing, sometimes you dont realize it but there is olive oil and vinegar there somewhere, I usually combine those to make a dressing if all they have is creamy s***. I really think this is unsustainable...just use moderation...if you are eating a healthy salad, for pete's sake, treat yourself to a little ranch or whatever the heck dressing you want. That doesn't mean pour it all over the thing, but jeesh, don't be afraid of it because it has a little fat in it. If you work out somewhat regularly (3-ish times a week), and you are already eating salad for your lunch or dinner, have some damn dressing and enjoy the thing. A little fat helps your body digest all the vegetables more easily anyway.

There is a pretty decent barbecue place here in town called Lucille's that will do the food on site...4 meats, a salad, and 4 sides for about $25/person...for 140ish people, I think that will put us at about $4k on the food, which I don't think is too bad. People will enjoy that more than the banquet type food, and I think people will get a kick out of watching (and smelling) them grill up all that great bbq food. Now I just have to start planning how to handle the booze situation...

Trayvon Martin
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 1, 2013 -> 08:35 AM) Except that what we know at the moment is he wasn't frightened of the 'cray ass cracker', he was pissed. Frightened he might have gone up to the first house he saw and knocked on the door for help. or called the police or even the people he was staying with instead of his girlfriend to brag about it. I dunno about that...when you are that age, especially in an urban culture, fear is really perceived to be weakness. He very well could have been frightened, and my guess is he was very frightened, but was trying to mask that fear with anger or irritation, especially if he was talking to a woman when he was expressing these emotions.

Job Hunt Thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 1, 2013 -> 08:26 AM) If this isn't a job you would have pursued, you don't feel it advances your career, or you don't end up getting paid more or have more free time, then don't take it. Unlike other jobs, if they actually pursued you, you have leverage in this situation to ask for more money, so maybe that's something you do. "This is a situation where the costs of moving on to a new job outweigh the benefits of taking the job, so even though I feel I would embrace the opportunity, it is simply not worth it to me at this point." If they are truly THAT interested in you, give them the number it would take to sign you on, and go from there. Yeah, I would tell them you are flattered with their offer, but it just doesn't provide enough incentive to make a change at this point. You wouldn't want to accept an opportunity that you weren't extremely excited about at this time.

Trayvon Martin
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 1, 2013 -> 08:11 AM) That whole convo was started by Balta who said Martin had every reason to defend himself and I think he or someone else brought up if he had a gun he could have used it. And i've been arguing since that he could not because he was not in fear of imminent death. And SYG doesn't apply if you instigate a fight and start losing. That may or may not be one of the reasons they're not using the SYG defense (yet) but to me tailing someone is different than starting a fight that you start to lose. My problem with that is that in this day and age, at least in my opinion, Zimmerman's behavior is threatening enough to frighten Martin just as much as if he walks up to him and begins punching him. When someone is following you in a vehicle for a sustained period of time, and then steps out of the vehicle and starts tracking you on foot, in this day and age of guns and other weaponry, that really seems to me just as frightening, if not more frightening, than someone starting a fistfight with you.

Trayvon Martin
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 1, 2013 -> 06:54 AM) It's threatening behavior and I wouldn't exactly feel great about it, but if you just turned around and shot that person would that be legit under stand your ground or self defense? No way. There's no way a jury would consider that a reasonable fear of imminent death/great bodily harm. And again, let's use the evidence we have which is Martin's statements to his friend. He's more pissed off about it than afraid. Jenks, The problem is that Zimmerman's behavior in and of itself is threatening. Of course that doesn't mean TM should just turn around and fire on him, but it does ratchet up the tension of the situation enough to put both parties on edge, which leads to s*** like this happening. You have to remember, Martin doesn't know who Zimmerman is and he doesn't know what his intentions are. He doesn't know if Zimmerman is a lawful person, and honestly, expecting Zimmerman to behave lawfully might get Martin killed if doesn't act with extreme caution. When you consider that Martin is a teenager, and under duress from being followed, you can see how he would act irrationally. You are correct in that Zimmerman's actions may not have been per se unlawful, but they certainly were enough to increase the probability of something like this happening exponentially. The result, Martin is dead and Zimmerman is on trial basically fighting for his freedom. It's difficult for me to feel any sympathy for him, considering the stupidity and recklessness of his actions.

Job Hunt Thread
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 1, 2013 -> 07:51 AM) It what can only be described as out of the blue, last Tuesday I received a call to interview for a job I never applied for. They got my number from a former co-worker who had just accepted a job there and they felt I was a good fit for a position they were hiring. I interviewed Friday morning and received an offer before I left the building. Clearly they want me, and have bent over backwards to make changes so I would accept the offer. Everyone around me thinks it's a great opportunity and something I would enjoy, and it gets me out of a job I'm not really to keen about (but I tolerate it). All that being said, something just doesnt sit right with me, I cant explain it. I feel like I should/would like the job, it strikes me as something I would like to do, but my head is churning and churning, and I just cant get over that it doesnt feel right. grrr.... this is frustrating. Well, is it more pay? Does it offer more opportunity for advancement? Is the commute farther or shorter? Sometimes when someone actually comes after us, instead of vice versa (whether it be a girl, or someone wanting to buy your house, or offer you a job) it just doesn't quite seem right, because it isn't necessarily how things normally go...but try to take that part out of the equation and consider the opportunity as if it were one you might have pursued...or would you have pursued it at all?
