QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 15, 2013 -> 12:15 PM) I really liked Kenny as GM, but this is one place where Kenny failed. As general manager Kenny Williams was in charge of the distribution of assets. He made the conscious decision to put money and minor league players into acquiring major league players. He is the one who put the emphasis elsewhere, not Hahn, or anyone else. I'm not sure if it was Kenny who failed, per se...more like we took gambles that could have worked out, but didn't. Had we went further in '08, had we won the division in '12, I think the gambles might have been viewed by more as worth it. However, we did not, and thus the gambles did not pan out, but ultimately, these were organizational failings, not those of just one man.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 15, 2013 -> 09:49 AM) Biggs said this morning that the Eagles look like they are about to lock down Gus Bradley. And is the Jaguars job open?
-
I'm willing to give the guy more time and not make any judgments based on what has occurred thus far. I agree that the price we will pay now and a few years into the future is the result of Kenny being ultra aggressive. However, I knew I would miss the gambler when he was gone...

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 15, 2013 -> 08:37 AM) This is more of the same thing we've already been talking about it... It's about personal choice and having some self control. I LOVE me a fountain Coke once in a while -- no, not that fake ass diet s***, either -- but a REAL Coke, out of a fountain...not sure why, but I love it out of the fountain. That said...it doesn't mean I have to drink 5 of them a day...or a week...or even in a month. Have some f***ing willpower. Just because some fat retards have none, doesn't mean I should lose the choice of a Coke, or a Big Mac, or whatever the f*** else for that matter. I'm sick of brain dead, no willpower having asshats ruining s*** for everyone else. Stop blaming Coke for making you fat, and stop f***ing drinking it. This isn't Russia, is it Danny?

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 10:30 PM) If money isnt a thing? The Bears could have gone after Cowher. Otherwise it really does not make a lot of sense to fire a coach of a team on its last legs. The reality is, not many offensive players have left the Bears to be world beaters. Lovie has not had an amazing GM. He may have had his flaws, but if you seriously look at the past Bears teams, they had a lot of deficiencies, especially on offense. I just think he deserved 1 more year. I really don't get the fascination with Cowher...he doesn't strike me as some incredibly intelligent guy or amazing leader...and it's not like Tomlin didn't walk in and do the exact same thing with that team as Cowher did.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 10:18 PM) You should have known they would not hire a proven head coach. Other than the Cubs, what team in Chicago ever hires a proven coach, especially the Bears? I don't think that's a bad thing...what other proven hc are you going to get that isn't coming off his own failures?

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 09:56 PM) French Canada is the best Canada. But (imo) there are plenty of interesting and exciting OC candidates every year. The Bears just either go cheap (Mike Tice) or ridiculous (Martz). There are what 50 elite HC jobs in the world when it comes to football (including college)? You should be hiring a guy that youd be willing to cut your dick off to hire. Anyone hire Norv yet?
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 09:48 PM) Id be okay with that, but I still think its a step down from Lovie Smith as HC, Trestman as OC and Marinelli as DC. Especially as its a veteran team and they all responded to Lovie. I would need to know more about the previous OC hiring decisions, and how much was Emery/Angelo, and how much was Lovie. (edit to your edit) And yes, Arians (imo) is the better candidate. I raised this too...apparently Trestman wants a HC position, otherwise he will stay in Montreal.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 03:51 PM) I think Luck had legitmately very little help this year, particularly from his defense, so despite the completion %age, his performance was hugely impressive. The other thing that worries me on a guy like Wilson is...how well will the read-option QB's hold up over time? Not once did Wilson keep the ball on a read option play yesterday. He strikes me as a real deal pocket passer with the speed, agility, athletic ability, etc., to get out of the pocket when he needs to and see the field and make plays. I don't see him in the same way that I see RGIII. Your point is valid about Luck, and I know he was constantly under pressure to put up 20-30 points a game whereas Wilson had the luxury of playing in a lot of blowouts and had one of the League's best defenses to support him. I still like him better. He is just an outstanding combination of athleticism and passing ability that doesn't seem to put him in harm's way the way that it did with Vick and RG III and "running quarterbacks."

I like Wilson more than Luck at this point.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 03:56 PM) Both of the times I went through Vegas I caught a cover band playing at a place on the strip, outdoors, right next to Jimmy Buffett's margaritaville. After Google-mapping it, the place was called "Carnival Court".

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 01:00 PM) In March I will be making my every-other year pilgrimage to donate my money ( I do win sometimes...), but I have a question that I would rather ask a local than try and scour the interwebs for. I like listening to live music. I know several of the casinos have live music at various times, but I want to see a band, like a bar band or something, NOT in a casino. Are there any places not too far from the strip that have live music? I will have to cab it, so it can't be too far away. Thanks in advance. Live music has gotten really hard to come by these days because the younger crowd wants djs instead. As you said, many of the casinos will offer live music, and more so now than in the past several years that I have lived here, but they are usually some kind of lounge act rather than a bar band. For a bar band, you could check out Vamp'd, which is owned by Danny from Countz Customz (of Counting Cars, Pawn Stars, and American Restoration fame), but that is probably a $15-20 cab ride each way depending on where you are staying. Another place is Sammy Hagar's place in the Hard Rock, called Vinyl. They have various bands playing, usually on the weekends.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 11:08 AM) I agree with this generally, though I will say that having an infant really f***s up your ability to exercise properly. I get my exercise during the day, walking to/from the train station to my work and to/from my work to the courthouse downtown, and really I need to exercise more as I'm definitely in the "obese" category (6 foot, 235lbs). But while I have a little free time to exercise at night, the reality is I don't have the energy. I'm up at 6am with the kid, helping my wife get him fed, clothed and ready for daycare (and getting myself ready) and then when I get home it's the same routine to get him to bed by 8. My "free time" during the day is from about 8-10, but even then there's usually dinner to make or the house to pick up or my basement remodel to work on. I don't have an hour a day to exercise. That's got nothing to do with me being lazy, it's literally not having the time in the day to do it. I have no excuse for not eating right. But the exercise part is a little more difficult. If you start eating better, caring for an infant will literally be your exercise.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 10:28 AM) Pats Ravens Niners Falcons Pats Niners Pats I'd love to see any team not named the Patriots win the Super Bowl this year; I just don't see how that can happen. You can't see how the Niners could beat them?

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 09:00 PM) Yeah, he said something like "this is probably 4 down territory." Um, yes? Yeah, it was 3rd and 5 and he was suggesting that they might kick a fg if they didn't get the first down or if Wilson was to get sacked.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 07:42 PM) I can understand Moore. He's more or less even with Sale in terms of stuff. But Sale has much better command. As for Parker, he's a good pitcher, but nothing spectacular. Although I can see him putting up numbers Sale put up last year, just not as many Ks. Right, but the difference is Sale has done it over a much longer sustained period than the others...seems like he's not getting enough credit for that.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 04:23 PM) I like how he thinks Sale has injury issues...but lists two guys ahead of him who also have injury concerns in Strasburg and Chapman (maybe even more so in Strasburg). I understand Strasburg is better than Sale, but he's also had TJ and got shutdown last year. And Parker and Moore? I know they have some big time potential, but Chris has done it over the course of a season, while these two clearly have not.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 08:00 PM) Major math Fail there Phil, lol. "Houston should kick a quick field goal so they can onside kick and throw a hail mary." Awesome Phil, they were down 13, so New England would still win by 3. How about Billick in the first game? He was terrible. He was suggesting the Seahawks might kick a fg down 6 with 1:30 left if Wilson were to get sacked around the 35 on a 4th and 10 instead of going for it...then, after Atlanta kicked onside with 8 seconds left, his argument for why this was such a colossal error was because Seattle would be closer to the end zone for purposes of the hail mary as opposed to the fact that they were actually much closer to being able to make a quick completion and get in fg range. Just bad.
-
QUOTE (zenryan @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 08:03 PM) When there is limited possessions left in the game, you need to be in a spot that is most favorable for you to come back. In Houston's situation, it really probably doesnt matter when you still need atleast 2 scores. But if it was 15 point deficit and you have the option to cut it to 7 or 8 with 5 minutes left, the smart play is to keep in within one possession. I suppose I can see what you and Krush are saying...I suppose there is value in being able to presumably tie the game with 1 score as opposed to two, since you may not have to pass as much. I think there is equal or greater value in knowing with enough time left to do something about it whether or not you need to score once or twice.
-
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 07:38 PM) Why do announcers still stupidly insist you should wait to go for a 2 pt conversion when you will definitely need to get one at some point? Houston needs to know as early as possible if they are going to need 2 TDs or a TD and a FG so you can plan accordingly. Waiting doesn't do anything positive for you. I agree...I have never understood this philosophy...but it isn't just the announcers...it's usually the coaches, too. They don't seem to understand that there is value in knowing the outcome earlier and having an ability to adjust your gameplan, as opposed to potentially failing at the end of the game when there is nothing you can do about it. It's as if they believe you get extra points for the length of time you remain in the game or something. I have argued this at length with friends as well. Their counterpoint is that if you take the 1 sure point, there is some other event which could occur afterwards which might render your decision to go for two different, and now you have that point on the scoreboard instead of potentially having gone for the two-point conversion and failing. That seems pretty rare to me.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 04:27 PM) I think Atlanta sucks. Looks good for SF. I have a parlay on NE -9.5 and scoring over 50. Looks possible at this point, but not fantastic. Nice wager, Jake!

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 04:18 PM) That's what I thought too. Looks like he kinda missed on purpose almost. I don't think he missed on purpose, but I equate it sort of to a nonchalant golf swing...just wanted to make clean contact, but didn't really worry much about coming through or across the ball, which is probably why he pushed it right.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jan 12, 2013 -> 01:58 PM) What about Dennison? I thought they interviewed him yesterday and he is the guy Cutler really wants. Yep, forgot about him...he's in the mix too

My best friend back in Chicago had me make a Baltimore/GB parlay for him. All year I have been on Denver...but I just can't bet them now I don't think. No clue what to think about the late game.
