QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 18, 2012 -> 09:16 PM) Barkley confirmed out for the game this Saturday Luck of the Irish... -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 18, 2012 -> 08:53 PM) These Pittsburgh jailbird uniforms are pretty horrendous I actually think they are pretty awesome...but I know I am in the very large minority on that one (I actually may be the only person on earth outside of Pittsburgh who thinks they are awesome).

QUOTE (kev211 @ Nov 18, 2012 -> 08:06 PM) There's a key word in your sentence that I bolded. If you want to play in the national title game you better go undefeated. That's what it proves. ND found a way to win and Oregon didn't and because of that ND is #1 and Oregon isn't. Style points are all fine and great, but in the end all that matters is you that win every game you play no matter how ugly they get. I understand that completely. Which is why I didn't say a thing about who should be ranked #1. A few calls by the officials or one play here or there doesn't really tell us much about who the better team is, which is what these discussions have been about. I absolutely agree that ND should be #1 right now. Doesn't mean I think they are the best team in the nation though. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 18, 2012 -> 05:55 PM) Like what breeds? Rotts and Pincers, both commonly trained as guard/attack dogs? I agree, its the people who put the fight in the dog, im not saying the dog is the issue. Look, not all pits are bred to fight. I know this. But there are many that are, and they do fight unfortunately. I think most of Marks own pitbulls are rescued and rehabbed fighters including his Staffordshire. It may not be a correct way to deal with it, but these towns/cities/counties decided its better to say stay out than to put forth the resources to combat the underground fighting industry. my ex girlfriends dad trained and bred Pincers for police. Her house dog almost took my face off once and i was just standing there minding my own business. Scared the absolute hell out of me. Yes, the usual suspects...Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, Dobermans, Great Danes, Mastiffs, some Bulldogs, etc...

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 18, 2012 -> 05:51 PM) Yeah, but knowing that a pitbull has the capability to snap and kill someone makes me never want to be around them. I've never had the fear of a golden retriever or a lab snapping and trying to kill me. I've heard stories of having to break pitbulls jaws with a crowbar, but never a golden retriever. And for the record, I don't like to be around German shepards or dobermans or mastiffs either, it's not just pitbulls. This is a valid point...I am honestly nervous when pitbulls are around my dogs at the dog park...but that isn't reason enough to ban them.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 18, 2012 -> 05:37 PM) At this point the dog should just stay at their Missouri home. They aren't going to overturn these laws. Unfortunately these dogs are bred to fight and they bring with them a stigma of being violent dogs. It isn't going to change, these laws are usually put in place after extended fights between authorities and underground put bull fighting rings Oh nonsense. These laws extend to all sorts of breeds that are not violent and are not bred to fight. Most of the places with these laws in place think they are being progressive, when in fact, they're being exactly the opposite. Just because this is the easiest way to try and solve a problematic issue does not mean it is the correct one.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 18, 2012 -> 05:27 PM) Having an opinion isn't disrespectful, but when you spend weeks talking about how much better Oregon and KSU are than ND and then those two go out and wet themselves, then expect to hear about it. Did I spend weeks? I spent like 5 posts expressing my opinion that Oregon and KState were the better teams. And I wasn't rude about it, either. You just happened to disagree. Which is fine. But just remember, your Domers almost lost to Pittsburgh at home a few weeks ago. The fact that ND managed to squeak out a win while Oregon lost in OT to Standford doesn't exactly prove much of anything. Now I understand your right to be happy that ND will be #1 in about two hours, but you don't have to be a cocksucker about it. -

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 18, 2012 -> 06:24 PM) Right, I'm just saying it goes both ways. People are "so defensive over ND" because so many people are so hateful of ND. If you go back and read the thread from Thursday and Friday you will get a better idea of what Brian is talking about. Look at how HH has behaved. -

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 18, 2012 -> 05:44 PM) I knew you'd say that, but it doesn't make my point any less true. People just love to b**** about Notre Dame. Can't tell you how many tweets or FB statuses I have seen saying "Just 1 game closer to seeing Alabama crush ND by 50!". It's really sad how many people care more about ND losing than their own team winning. Look, anytime you choose to be a fan of a team like Notre Dame or the Cowboys or the Celtics, whatever, you are going to have to listen to a lot of people's opinions on your team. Those are very national teams with large fanbases, and those large fanbases tend to annoy the hell out of other fans in a way that others don't (because they don't have so many fans). Teams with huge followings tend to be very polarizing because you have an awful lot of people expressing their views to an awful lot of other people who get tired of hearing them. It has nothing to do with people loving to b**** about Notre Dame. It has everything to do with the Golden Domers rubbing their historical success in the faces of other fanbases and annoying the ever-living hell out of them. So of course they are going to take every chance to annoy you right back. Get used to it. And don't flatter yourself. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 18, 2012 -> 05:36 PM) Not just on here, but at work and on FB, ND fans are so defensive. Everyone I know didn't even go to ND. it's like no other fan base I have communicated with. I actually have a soft spot for ND; I don't dislike them at all. And for damn sure I will be cheering for them Saturday to avoid having another All-SEC BCS Championship game. I was just calling it like I saw it, which, was obviously what the vast majority was seeing. But of course, now many of the ND fans are going to get vitriolic about it because they feel like they've been disrespected over the last several weeks. I'm sorry, but almost every objective observer had Oregon ahead of ND. Having an opinion isn't disrespectful. -

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 18, 2012 -> 01:02 PM) But why didn't Oregon's amazing unstoppable offense have them ahead by 30 points when that play happened? I don't understand . . . Keep rubbing it in, HH...and enjoy it while it lasts... -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 18, 2012 -> 03:19 PM) I have watched this game for a total of 10 minutes and the browns have been called for 3 PIs and the Cowboys got away with no play clock and a obvious false start The Browns db's were chucking and armbarring down the field all game. Dierdorf was pointing it out on almost every passing play. That being said, Rob Ryan only rushed 3 guys the entire first half. Why would you allow a rookie qb the time to sit in the pocket and check down to the best player on their team all half long? If they would have brought the pressure all game long the Cowboys would have won by at least two touchdowns, even without trying on offense in the first half. Meanwhile, another game the Browns had a chance to win and just couldn't close.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Nov 18, 2012 -> 12:26 PM) Yeah it is. I was thinking about the Bengals but I hate taking teams with losing records on the road as favorites. And they are coming off a huge home win and now playing a crap team on the road. Plus I dont think the Chiefs have quit on the season yet. There are just too many games today where you cant trust the teams that you'd like to take. Usually when I feel like this its either a struggle break .500 or I implode big time. Well against my better judgement, I think I'll go small on the Bengals and see how that unfolds before deciding if I want to call it a day or not for the afternoon games. Small play on Cincy for me I just made a small play on a parlay, because I am not willing to risk much money today. In that parlay, I did take the Bungles as well... There are a few very big public plays, which I actually like, but that I am scared off of for the most part due to how one-sided the action is. I usually consider that to be fairly irrelevant, but the bloodbath the books have been taking recently have a lot of folks a bit spooked here in Vegas. But I agree with you, I can't trust the Raiders against the Saints without at least getting 7.5. I can't trust the Lions only getting 3 with how stagnant their offense has been this year. Don't trust Washington or Philly. Took the Cowboys -7, even though the sharps have been playing up the Browns all week. But I think Hayden is out. Was tempted to take Atlanta, as I think they will cover the 10, but this is a bit of a bad spot for them. Although Mike Smith is something like 17-3 ATS after a loss. I took your Bucs, despite the sharps playing Carolina, because I think that offense continues to roll today. Ick, just so many yuck games this week. Hopefully next week will be better.
-
This is perhaps the ugliest slate of games from a gambling perspective that I can remember in years. There are competing angles for almost every game where I can see either team covering...usually, I feel pretty confident about 5 or 6 games. This week is a freaking mess.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 18, 2012 -> 01:44 AM) I've been watching for almost 7 hours now and I'm still waiting for this incredible Oregon offense to get to 15 points . . . Yeah, props to you...enjoy it while it lasts, my friend. In the meantime, I am still trying to see the Standford receiver's right shoulder hit down in the end zone...I don't know if I am blind, but I am just not seeing it. -

QUOTE (zenryan @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 04:12 PM) Van Pelt said today that of the 5 Stanford losses in the last 3 years, 3 of the losses have come by a combined 14 points. The other 2 were to Oregon by a total of 44 points. Stanford doesnt matchup up well with Oregon. 21 is a lot of points but I could see a 48-24 type game tomorrow. The team that matches up best with Oregon is probably USC...hopefully we will see that rematch in the Pac 12 Championship game. -

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 02:12 PM) There's no limit to the amount of money I'd put on Stanford at +21. And along these lines...I dunno what the line will be on the ND-SC game, but I plan on putting a crapload of money on SC. My guess is, assuming both win this week, that SC will be close to a pick'em. If I'm lucky, maybe they'll be getting a few points. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 03:12 PM) Oregon's defense isn't great, but it's not terrible. They've held their 7 of their 9 opponents (not including Tn Tech) to below their season average in points. The only truly bad game they had on defense was against USC. I also wonder how many of the points they've allowed this year came against their starting defense, as they've played their second stringers so often in the second half of games. Also, quick math shows me that the average scoring offense Kansas State has faced this year is 51.6 in the rankings, and Notre Dame's is 69.5. Oregon's defense is really beat up right now...but let's face it, no one has come even close to stopping Oregon's offense yet. Even with a marginal defense, which I think is a fair characterization of Oregon's defense, their offense is so head and shoulders above everyone else's offense, that you have no chance. I suspect the only teams that could possibly slow them down reside in the Southeastern Conference. -

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 03:12 PM) There's no limit to the amount of money I'd put on Stanford at +21. A lesser Oregon team beat a much stronger Stanford team in 2010 by three touchdowns... I wouldn't be surprised if Oregon rolls them by 30. -

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 03:03 PM) I've watched all 3 teams play. I'd put KSU slightly ahead of ND and both of them quite a bit ahead of Oregon. Their defense is terrible. And yes, it has everything to do with pre-season rankings this late in the season. Go back to previous years and look at how the rankings of undefeated teams in week 9-10 compares to their preseason rankings. I can buy this argument this week...but in three weeks, if Oregon is still undefeated, I highly doubt it. If you really want to know who the best teams are, you look at the Vegas Power Rankings. These are the folks who have the most incentive to understand just how good all these teams are. Oregon is a 21 point favorite this week against Stanford. THREE touchdowns.... Honestly, what would KState be? 7 point favorite? 10? And ND? maybe 7? -
