    Job Hunt Thread

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Nov 14, 2012 -> 08:44 PM) Anyone on here know of an agile project manager looking for work? My company in Naperville is looking for someone and hasn't been able to find the right fit. For one thing I'd like to see this job get filled, for another I'd like to get a referral bonus. Link to job ad I like that there is a range for some of the skills, such as people management..."good to excellent."
  2. Did the Blue Jays hire their new manager yet? That job just got a bit more interesting...
  3. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 02:46 PM) Dude, it's also a book. Just because it's on paper doesn't make it completely true. They can write as much as they want about how he's changed, but the fact is he's relapsed before and the odds are it's going to happen again. Who knows how bad the next relapse is going to be, it's a huge freakin' risk on money that would be best spent elsewhere. I don't really worry about him relapsing...to me, it's the same risk it is with any other star of this caliber...it generally is not worth it to spend 20-25% of your payroll on one player. When you combine that with the fact that you're usually getting a player who is in the middle of his prime but will be exiting it shortly, it doesn't make a ton of sense to sign someone to a long-term megamillions type deal. Pass.
  4. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 02:33 PM) Then retire he has no problem cashing the checks on the 15th and the 30th goes with the territory. Oh bologna...this isn't 1965. this is 2012. These guys change teams all the time. They text and call one another. Hang out socially. They are playing a sport for money. They are not in a war. It's funny how much more seriously fans have begun taking some aspects of professional sports...much more than the actual players.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 01:04 PM) His rant today amongst other things. Linky?
  6. QUOTE (southside_hitman @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 10:05 AM) Thanks. I love the discussion here. Regarding what some have said about Headley for Peavy et. al.... 1.) Peavy did not burn any bridges when he left SD. 2.) Peavy put down roots in SD and may well want to go back there after experiencing Chicago weather. In short, he probably not be adverse to such a trade. 3.) The relatively short and reasonable Contract Peavy did with the Sox is not beyond what SD could handle, especially if they are losing Headley. 4.) SD want to move Headley because they have Jedd Gyorko Visit My Website a top 3rd base prospect in their system that they want to bring up next season. 5.) Chicago Sox fans and sports reporters in Chicago are growing sick of the loud Country music played in the clubhouse. It's generally not a very good business practice to sign a player and then immediately trade him. Players need to have some level of trust in your Organization and in your Front Office.

    Buying airline tix

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 10:25 AM) You can also gamble and try to wait until about a week or two before. If the flights don't sell out the airlines try to get anything they can for them, so there is usually some good savings. But usually those are s***ty flights (1-2 stops) at odd times. I'm one of those people that absolutely hates traveling (going to airports, flying, not actually vacationing), so I just pay the extra $ to be comfortable rather than trying to save $50 and flying all over the place or at weird times. It's difficult to save too much money when you are flying in or out of Chicago...rarely do we see the heavily discounted fares there because there is just so much traffic. As for Vegas, I just have to avoid flying in on a thursday or friday (Tue-Wed and Sat are the cheapest generally) and flying out on Sunday or Monday (as everyone is leaving and going back to their regular life). I think another tip is to avoid booking the flight on weekends (not actually flying, but actually booking the airfare), as it is generally more expensive to do so then.
  8. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 11:28 AM) From what I saw he was doing his normal weird ticks - opening his mouth like he's trying to pop the air in his ears and violently moving his throwing shoulder back as if he's trying to shake something off him. I dunno, I think Zaidman reported that no one knew anything was up until they got to the locker room and he told someone he wasn't right. He also apparently told Campbell to warm up. Perhaps...All I know is I specifically commented to my girlfriend that he looked like he was trying to shake the cobwebs out after the run he dove headfirst on...he didn't look right to me...but then my dumbass went and bet the second half without contemplating that he might come out of the game...so obviously I wasn't all that worried at the time.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 10:34 AM) I don't think there was any indication that he was having any symptoms until halftime so I doubt it. This is troubling though. That's concussion #6 I believe for Cutler. Gotta wonder at what point he says I'm gonna go make babies with my hot wife and not be a vegetable the rest of my life. He was twitching and making a lot of mannerisms with his face in the last few plays after that hit...there were some indications for sure. That is probably what caused them to recognize something wasn't right.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 09:43 AM) Monday Night Football showdown!! Jason Campbell vs. Colin Kaepernick!! I'll cry if that ends up being the case...
  11. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 11, 2012 -> 04:23 PM) its really windy, weather is changing Total is down to 38.5, which is pretty crazy for two of the highest scoring teams in the League...Owen Daniels being a game-time decision is a pretty big deal for us IMHO.
  12. After losing the 6 teamer last week on the final game, hit a 5-teamer today for $1160 Actually 9-0 thus far this week... Damn you Raiders of last week! Weather pretty bad there in Chicago, guys?
  13. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 12:06 PM) If what Hahn is saying about the payroll being about $97 like last year is true, the only scenario where we end up with Hamilton is where Rios is moved first, not Viciedo (because we're sitting at about $89m right now). I can see no scenario where Hamilton would be signed here. That is a ridiculous pipe dream.
  14. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 12:07 PM) Well and thats why Ive clarified and said that my position could be moral, if you were to take away the good/bad or right/wrong aspect. Its not that your desires are outweighed, is that both can not have the same thing. Thus if 2 peoples desires are in conflict, its not about whether 1 person is right or wrong, its about whether we defer to the person who is taking, or defer to the person who is being taken from. In my opinion the protection should go to the person who something is being taken from, not because its right or wrong, good or bad, but just because 2 people cant have the same thing. The Bear is neither right nor wrong, the bear is neither good nor bad. The bear just is. Yeah, I understand what you are saying...at least I think I do...there is sort of a natural order to things, and there is kind of a utilitarian need to make whole the person who was negatively affected in some way. Just not sure you can make such an argument without it being a moral position.
  15. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 11:54 AM) Already been answered. If thats how you want to define morality, then so be it. Thats not the way I was using the word, and arguing semantics is just boring. The intention of the use was to differentiate the govt making decisions based on what people interpret as "good" or "bad". I think the point they are making is why is your desire to do whatever you want outweighed by the affected person's right to be unaffected by you? Do you view a bear that kills a fish as wrong because he affected the fish?
  16. Something I am curious about...do those that are pro-life tend to adopt at higher rates than those that are pro-choice?
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 10:30 AM) No. Thanks for the heads up. Knowing is half the battle!
  18. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 11:24 AM) That's a terrible analogy. It takes a lot more effort for a person to get an illegal abortion than to get illegal drugs. It does? From what I understand, you find someone on the black market, you pay an exponentially higher sum of money, and you engage in the same act except in an unregulated manner. Seems like a fairly good analogy to me.
  19. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 10:20 AM) That's going to be incredibly rare. There are hardly any documented cases of that happening before abortion was legal. Why on earth would there be documented cases?
  20. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 11:17 AM) The woman? Zero. The felony should be performing the abortion, not obtaining it. The doctor? Prison time + loss of medical license. Which leads to women performing their own gruesome surgeries...
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 11:08 AM) If abortions should be illegal, what should be the punishment for the woman? The doctor? Well, I don't think they should be illegal, but if you told me it had to be illegal, and I had to come up with a punishment, I would probably suggest some ridiculously obnoxious and complicated scheme....fallopian tubes tied until the mother determined she actually wanted to procreate, at which point she would then be bound to take the pregnancy to term and care for the child.
  22. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 10:56 AM) I agree with this but we also, at some point, have to decide how we're going to handle it as a society. And we further need to decide if government should be involved at all in those decisions (i.e., paying for those decisions). For sure. And I look at that as, what is the phrase, a necessary evil. But I certainly don't believe one can reach a "correct" moral conclusion from a legal line in the sand or go around lecturing others on what their own moralistic or spiritual position should be on something that is so, so grey.
  23. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 10:47 AM) Was Terry Schaivo a human being like you or I that was "killed" when they finally unplugged the machines? And we can argue about these sort of situations until we die. I understand. My point is that these situations are so incredibly complex, that very reasonable minds will always, always disagree. So to sit here and debate it in some effort to reach consensus is foolish. Seems to me our efforts would be better put to use by seeking out more preventive measures.
  24. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 10:43 AM) There is a utilitarian approach to the issue, sure. We have justifiable homicides for the same reason. But we start with a baseline that murder is wrong, and work justifications from there. We don't start with "well, i mean is that REALLY murder? I mean, was that REALLY a person that was killed?" I suppose I was approaching this more from a moralistic viewpoint than a legal standpoint. Agreed that for legal purposes, we do need to draw some sort of line in the sand. I suppose it is the moralistic statements or arguments that evolve out of those legal lines in the sand that I become frustrated by. I find it difficult to believe that one can assuage one's guilt about the issue by latching on to the legal demarcations. That seems to be a bit of bs IMHO.
  25. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 09:34 AM) Who cares if he's not 23, he's right in the prime of his career right now and he's cost controlled for a while. He's a very solid player and it's not going to be easy to replace him at a relatively low cost. It makes 0 sense to trade him unless you're getting a good haul back in return. I agree...unless you encounter a member of the De Aza Fanclub, and he happens to be the GM of another team, I don't really understand trading him... unless... if this is indeed true, it seems to me that Hahn is drawing up his plan of where he wants to go and who he needs to keep, and then is willing to trade the players with the most value to get there... this isn't something we see often from GM's in pro sports, but it's certainly the sort of aggressive philosophy I could get behind.
