QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 03:41 PM) Thats awesome. Some people need to understand how much better you feel and how much your life opens up if you try to take care of your body. Simple things around the house are easier with better flexibility and overall better core strength. If you take care of your body it should take care of you. You will also be quite a bit happier and more confident. I love Tony Horton! I've started working later in the day because of a new job and I have started with my workouts at 6 AM...definitely changes up your day...I am definitely much more engaged at work, not tired, no more need for coffee, etc.

I don't think Marty thinks Viciedo is a "problem."

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 09:13 AM) He talked about it with Boston's radio guys before the game yesterday and I got their version of a Ken Harrelson Boston Red Sox story last night. He said he got that kind of standing O after being traded, came up and hit a home run, and that was the last time they cheered him. Yeah, he mentioned this several times actually, without going into specifics. "Just wait til you beat them, then they'll boo you. Been there, done that!"

Can't imagine what's going through his head right now...

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 07:45 AM) That's my position right now, just wait them out a bit and go see other cars in the meantime. If you don't want the car, don't buy it.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 08:51 AM) unless you are Lenny Dykstra Too funny! Luckily for LD, I heard his kid is a pretty good ballplayer? As for Hudson, I am pleasantly surprised with how he has handled his benching...not that he could argue, but he doesn't seem to be pouting. Probably happy just to have a spot on the roster of a winning team.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 06:41 PM) This is my new pup. He's 8 weeks old. We know that his mom was a purebred golden retriever. Do you guys have any idea what kid of mixture he is? His tail is about a foot long, skinny and black with a white tip. Awwww! Could be a chow mix of some kind, but honestly, it's pretty tough to tell. Great-looking pup though!

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 04:07 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/videogallery...or-Zach-Greinke Marty34 is Rosenbloom? Advocates trading for Greinke, says we can't afford Garza, Dempster or Hamels, but that we have the advantage because the Yankees, Red Sox and Dodgers are afraid to bring Zach to the big city. Whatever. So because Marty said it, it's "whatever"?

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 12:03 PM) You would think batting between Youkilis-Dunn and Rios would be just about ideal to see some good pitches because there isn't a whole lot of margin for error through that part of the lineup. This slump will have to get worse and last longer to shuffle it. One would think...it seems like Alex is leading off an inning almost every at bat in the last few months though...

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 11:49 AM) Regression to the mean, you didnt think he was going to hit 400 all year did you? Moving one of your best hitters for a short period of time is not all that smart or effective. Especially since we have been WINNING games. We could have been winning MORE games. This is not regression, either. This is frustration and confusion boiling over and hurting his entire approach. He's not hitting balls hard anymore. He's popping s*** up and hitting weak grounders. He is not one of our best hitter over the last two months; he is one of our worst hitters, if not THE worst. Allowing a hitter with his level of production to bat in such an important spot in the lineup is not all that smart or effective.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 10:09 AM) I still would be shocked if his wrist(s) isn't bothering him. He cannot get around and hook anything with authority, and his only home run in a while was against the terrible Adam Warren. He might say publically that he feels ok, but his swing looks awfully similar to the few games he struggled in before having to get the wrist treatment. I think he's hit a few balls hard foul...I really am not buying the injury thing...I think he's just mentally all screwed up right now.
-
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 09:59 AM) OK...so let's say Robin moves him to 6 and he continues to slump? Move him to 8? Look, you move him now and the rest of the AL will pounce on perceived weakness. Move him to 6 or 7. If he continues for a prolonged period, you've got bigger problems than his feelings.
-
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 10:55 AM) Paulie is still a dangerous hitter, slump or not. He brings something to the plate every time he is up. Moving him back because of a slump could affect the way other teams scout him and handle the rest of teh White Sox hitters. It smacks as desperation. And for a first place team, that's not what you want to show the rest of your division. I know what you are saying, shack, but it is shortsighted. I think it's long-sighted, actually.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 09:53 AM) So far the moves that have been made this year have given me faith that "baseball stupid" left the organization last year. I think Robin is likely to make the move at the right time, if it needs to be made. So if Robin made the move starting this weekend in Detroit, would you accept it as being "the right time."?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 10:33 AM) My big concern is that this isn't benching Brent Morel or Orlando Hudson. This is the face of the franchise right now, and a lot of the kids on this team look up to Paul Konerko. I'm just saying it might not be an obvious solution to those who are in the trenches. Yeah, I'm just going to agree to disagree with you here.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 10:25 AM) If the team doesn't believe it is for the better of the team, how is that selfish? I know you handwave away the results of the emotions that go into that, but the reality is, people work better in situations they are comfortable with. If you boss is an asshole, or an idiot, you probably aren't going to work as hard, or as productively, versus working for a guy who you have confidence in. If a company walks in and demotes the top guy on the totem poll because he had a bad month of sales, after 13 years of being the best, that isn't going to go over well with the rest of the group. Again, all you have to do is look at the difference between Adam Dunn and Alex Rios, this year versus last, to realize that things off of the field, can play just as large, as things like mechanical issues on the field. I agree with the general points you are making. I just don't think moving a guy down a few spots in the order is anywhere near as drastic as you are suggesting.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 10:16 AM) They could. You could also poison the clubhouse by yanking a guy as highly respected as Konerko out of the spot he has earned with his 13 plus years on the team. The reason guys are playing better, to some extent, is because the players really seem to respect Robin. If you start dicking around the beloved Captain of the team, that could end. For example, look how well the Red Sox responded to dicking around Kevin Youkilis. This is not analogous at all. I'm not suggesting benching him and bringing up some prospect to replace him. This is a move that would be based on trying to do what's best for the team. If the players can't respect a manager for doing that, based on moving a struggling player down in the lineup, then we've got some really selfish players.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 10:16 AM) Wait... so are his feeling important or not? And how does moving him down help him mentally? You think a guy like Konerko, with his experience and career, is afraid of pressure? I could care less if his feelings are hurt because we have to move him down because he is hurting the team. I don't really give a s*** who a player is if that is his attitude. Don't confuse hurt feelings with pressure to perform. If he can relax a little bit by hitting in lower-leverage situations, then by all means, put him in a position to succeed by doing so. If he really MUST hit in the 4th spot in order to get himself back to being productive, due to a confidence issue or something, then I guess I could possibly live with him there for a few more weeks. But I think PK is better than that.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 09:09 AM) I know people hate to hear this, but there are other considerations at play here. We saw what happens to a team where there is more than what is going on with the playing field last year. It isn't just about Konerko here. So you think Alex and AJ would suffer from being moved up in the lineup?
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 09:10 AM) On the bolded... go look at PK's stats the last few years. I didn't think that even needed to be cited, it is that obvious. I am not disputing PK is a main cog in our offense. In fact, I stated earlier that by moving him back you might get him right more quickly, due to him not putting so much pressure on himself. We're going to need him down the stretch. PK is notorious for the pressure he puts on himself. Getting him back in the game mentally is key.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 08:57 AM) As stated in my earlier post... He's Paul Konerko. He slumps, but he's also an incredibly good hitter. As long as he's healthy, leaving him in that spot until he puts it back together is simply the best way to get results. Why is that the best way to get results? You are offering absolutely zero evidence for this opinion. Maybe he would relax a bit if he weren't always hitting in such high-leverage spots? He's currently hitting behind two of the most patient hitters in baseball right now. He obviously has no speed, which is compounded by the fact that he isn't even running out of the box anymore, so he is a double-play machine and stranding runners in scoring position at an obscene rate. I'm not comfortable leaving him there because you say "leaving him in that spot until he puts it back together is simply the best way to get results."
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 08:53 AM) Yes, clearly, that is the only reason to keep him in the cleanup spot. His feelings. What are your reasons then?
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 08:51 AM) What's ridiculous is moving guys around the lineup constantly when the team is doing well, and when the pieces you want to move have shown to be good hitters who, like everyone else, have slumps. Making these changes right now just isn't a smart move, IMO. Moving him down to get his stuff together again is not equivalent to "moving guys around the lineup constantly." I'm talking about moving Rios up to 4, AJ up to 5, and PK back to 6. I really think our guys will survive.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 08:51 AM) Rex Grossman was a snotnosed half ass QB who had potential. Paul Konerko is a 13 year vet with the Sox, and their captain, who has a long history of performance. There is a big difference here. So we're willing to let him kill us in the cleanup spot instead of just moving him down to 6 or 7 because we don't want to hurt his feelings?
-
You guys are absolutely ridiculous. You sound like Lovie Smith..."Rex is our quarterback." He cannot continue on his the rampage of suckitude while batting in the 4th spot. He's absolutely killing us right now. You go ahead and cite our winning record despite his horrendous performance. I say many of the games we did lose, including some of those tough losses Jake took, could, or should have been wins. He's not an 8 year old. He'll deal with the move down in the lineup just fine.
