  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 09:14 AM) The minor league guru's seem to have him pegged as a relief pitcher. Yeah, probably quite a few that are pegging Quintana as one too
  2. Wow that was fast! Eovaldi is a decent SP prospect...It would have been the equivalent of us trading them Quintana and a random prospect for Hanley.
  3. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 09:59 PM) -I should explain. (Typing too fast in the game thread.) They do like Myers to close but RV loves Reed. It's more that Reed is being asked about, than KW "souring" on him. But they do have concerns and put a huge emphasis on self-scouting. (Santos). I'd be shocked if they ate the $10 million before it got much, much worse

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 09:34 PM) Got the job offer I have been waiting for the last 4 months! I had a few follow up questions via e-mail. Got those answered, and now I am ready to accept it. Probably going to call them on Thursday. Congrats, Husky Caucasian!
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 04:46 PM) In the last 5-6 years, not many. People always cite examples like Aardsma, MacDougal or Masset, but these were all pitchers who struggled to throw secondary pitches and they're relievers. We can find a ton of examples in that 1998-2001 group...but not as many since. I'm assuming you're not counting the likes of Poreda, Broadway and McCulloch, as none of them were highly touted, except for maybe Broadway, but he was clearly overdrafted based on his college results and signability and didn't do anything with the Mets and other teams. You've got Hudson, Gio, Richard, maybe Harrell has probably done better than anyone expected with the Astros...but the only "failure" we have is Hudson and who's to know now how much of a failure that will turn out being. McCarthy brought Danks, etc. Examples?? And I mean pitchers who were drafted in the first three-five rounds and expected to make it. Javy Vazquez comes to mind...Floyd has had fairly average results, considering his ability...I'd really have to go back and dig a little deeper if you are only going to let me count starters in the last 5-6 years, but all things considered, I think Quintana is making up for his lack of devastating pitches with an intrinsic understanding of how to pitch and the stones to execute. I'd take that over Gavin all day, every day.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 03:51 PM) I think his expectations are crazy. I think somewhere in the 4.50 to 5.00 era is much more realistic. Not bad for back of the rotation stuff, but if he can net us a #1 or #2, he should go. Remember last year people were saying they wouldn't trade Phil Humber when we were still in it. He may not have great stuff, but how many guys with great stuff have we seen not put it together in this organization? His pitching acumen and stones are off the charts, IMO. Those two qualities, combined with his average stuff will make him a very solid #2 or #3 pitcher, IMHO.
  7. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) The chances of Quintana becoming another Mark Buehrle are heavily stacked against it. If there is a team out there who thinks Quintana is as good as he has been so far, then by all means, let them give us a package. It all just depends on how others view him, and if I am Kenny, I am gauging the market for him RIGHT NOW. But so are the chances of any prospect becoming an all star caliber player, even after showing immediate success in the big leagues. That is part of the difficulty of dealing with prospects. But it is a risk you've got to take if you want good, cost-controlled young talent.
  8. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 02:22 PM) Yeah, because Mark Buehrle's grow on trees.....? No, thus the reason not to trade him. You dispute the results he is getting right now...hard to argue with that. But what you said you think he can do, is very similar to what Mark did. Which was the comparison I made in the first place. Let me ask you this: if there was actually going to be another pitcher like Mark, do you think you would be able to immediately recognize him as that, or do you think it would take a few years for skeptics to be convinced? The nature of the beast is that you're always going to have questions about a young guy who resembles Buehrle in terms of stuff and style.
  9. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 02:24 PM) I just don't trust that this guy all the sudden flicked a switch and became a dominant pitcher. I don't think he will be trash, but I see him as a future #4 starter. A guy who can put up a sub-4 ERA, not a guy who has a 2.30 ERA. I hope he is good, I really do, I just don't see this lasting. Yeah, like Mark.
  10. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 12:59 PM) If the Brewers want Quintana as the centerpiece of a deal, I'll drive him to Milwaukee myself. That guy isn't going to last. His value can only go down from here. Yeah, I don't get why you don't like him at all...he's so much resembles Mark it is incredible.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 12:01 PM) Liriano belongs in the same boat. Liriano has been a picture of health compared to Johnson
  12. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 10:52 AM) Because I believe in Johnson's stuff, and he has another year on his contract. His stuff isn't the problem so much...it's the constant injuries.
  13. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 10:44 AM) Well, depending on the price, I think JJ is the clear winner in that group. I don't know how you could say that right now.
  14. I still want Liriano more than Greinke or JJ.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 05:12 AM) It would be a lot more interesting if Trout was the one who was acting like a prick and prima donna and Harper was the good guy. If I had to guess, I'd say it would go about 75% for Trout, 25% for Harper. Harper definitely projects to have more power over time (of the two), but it's really hard to find any weaknesses in Trout's game for now. Yeah, I agree.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 10:23 AM) I live in a different world. 8 hours is like a vacation. Thankfully the past couple weeks or so I've gotten to live that vacation. That's why they pay you the big bucks
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 10:14 AM) I tend to agree with you. Sox are getting a lot younger and are doing a nice job of retooling. Q and V are a big part of that and while I'm open to trading some people, those two guys aren't that. If Johnson was cost-controlled for a little longer, sure, but given the Sox's financial restrictions (due in large part to Rios, Dunn, Konerko, and Danks contracts), it just doesn't make a ton of sense to me to get rid of some of the cheap guys we have (especially when the Sox don't have a lot of replacements looming). If they could package Castro, Mitchell, and others for Johnson I'd be open, especially since the Sox are going to have to figure out how to do something when Peavy/Floyd potentially come off there books (depending on what they do with both players options). And then there is Youk as well. I'm just not sure at all the guy is going to pitch any better than Quintana, for about 25 times the price. If I am trading Viciedo or Quintana, I have to be pretty damn sure I am getting a significant upgrade.
  18. I'd wonder why the Marlins would want Floyd as a main piece for JJ. They are going to want Quintana and/or Viciedo. I wouldn't trade either of them for him.
  19. Yeah, Bucket has made it clear that Kenny is interested.
  20. He'd be owed about $37-38 million still through 2014.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 09:40 AM) Where would he play? Unless Sox want to have him play 2B, there's no fit here. 2b.
  22. Heyman is reporting the Padres are planning on keeping Volquez. That comes as a bit of a surprise...

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 07:57 AM) The same person who showed up without her ID badge, sweet talked the security guard into letting her in the building, and then went straight to the security office to report the guard for failing to follow procedures. See, women are capable of pure evil. Far more evil than any man would think to do.
  24. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 11:01 PM) Current MLB ranks: '3 true outcome' much? Oh, Adam you're so Dunny right now it's unreal. Love ya, big man. Who did Hawk and Steve say were the three players to lead the league in these three categories before? Ruth, Mantle, and ?
