  1. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 09:53 PM) I don't care what people post, as long as we're still free to reply to it. And please, for the love of god, don't try and sell me on the Tigers being some great team. +9999999999999999999
  2. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 09:36 AM) Can you go into a little more detail than that? I mean, I said my opinion and laid out my reasoning pretty clearly. Sure. I just think you're both being a bit harsh. She was born fairly wealthy and travelled in the same social circles as many of these wealthy men she dated and eventually married. This is how wealthy society works. It's not like she came from nothing and sought out these men solely for the purpose of getting her stinking mitts on their American Express card. She was all of 24 when she married Kennedy. 32 when he became President. I don't know if Kennedy was such a manwhore prior to reaching the White House, but they had small children, she is the First Lady, and her husband is simultaneously adored by the entire world and treating her like absolute s***, sleeping with many, many women and the press just turns a blind eye. She is expected to just prance around and look pretty and raise his children and be happy? I don't know, I guess I am not old fashioned, but do men still expect to treat women this way and have them remain blindly faithful? Despite JFK's trysts, it's still pretty obvious that she loved him deeply. He gets assassinated. She is left with his two small children and everyone in the world is clawing at her trying to get a piece of her. Then Bobby gets assassinated too. She becomes very fearful for her life, for her children's lives. She wanted to get the hell out of the US. I'm not saying Onassis was not a bit of a slimeball, but it's pretty well-documented that he made her feel safe, he provided her privacy from the outside world as well as safety from someone who might wish to harm her or her children. I am not a huge fan of JFK, and I guess by association, not a huge fan of Jackie. I just thought you guys were a bit harsh in your assessment of her, that's all...
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 09:42 AM) If Brent Lillibridge qualified, he would be 13th in the AL in slugging percentage. I really think he's got a little bit of Ben Zobrist in him (though hopefully not literally). Not that there's anything wrong with that...
  4. I really doubt he was roaming the Grecian countryside for hidden talent anyways. He was most likely combing through lists of known college and professional players trying to find some link to Greek descent and then trying to convince those players to play.
  5. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 08:16 AM) I think that trade is more about the fact that we got Pena. And honestly, every Sox fan should be allowed about having traded for him. It's been a long time since anyone has b****ed about losing Brandon Allen. And now that the A's have him, he will sink into baseball obscurity...
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 08:17 PM) Yeah, I remember him having similar troubles early this season. He would give up a quick 3 spot in the 1st, then just start dealing. Who the f*** are these guys in the Astros lineup? J.B. Shuck? J.D. Martinez? I know Bourgeois was a Sox farmhand, he can run, but I'm not sure if he can hit. JD Martinez is a guy they brought up from AA last week. 3 homers in his first 29 at bats. He took Hudson out opposite field and Hudson pouted like a baby for the rest of the inning. I was not impressed by Daniel last night.
  7. Brent was not ready to make that play at all.
  8. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 07:40 PM) Rios' current stance is basically what it was when he was with Toronto. Hawk said tonight that Walker tried to get him to move his hands back up early in the season and Rios resisted. Finally he moved them up and started hitting well. He then moved them back down again and struggled again. Now he's moved them back up again.
  9. QUOTE (The Sir @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 06:27 PM) If Paulie can't go from first to third on a double, and if he can't even be bothered to slide, he needs to sit his ass on the bench. And he needs to tell Ozzie that his ass should be sitting on the bench. That's unacceptable. He's hitting .333 with the injury. In this lineup, I'll take it.
  10. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 06:21 PM) I really liked it. Very creative if you ask me. Are you going to Redbox it? It just came in the mail - I do Blockbuster.
  11. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 06:19 PM) I did. Any good?
  12. Have any of you guys seen The Lincoln Lawyer?
  13. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 06:56 PM) Josh Bell.....my assumption is there is no advance scouting on him How do players that the Sox have never faced seem to kill them whether a pitcher or a hitter. I think we faced him last year actually...
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 05:45 PM) Score? 4-0
  15. If we were to win this game, would it be our first 4 game win streak of the year?

    QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 03:45 PM) Fulltime offer finally! And blown away by it, my manager even got them to include a pretty good signing bonus! Congrats, Russ! I'm sure your manager will get totally f***ed for putting himself on the line for you! Hah, I kid...again, congrats, and well-deserved.
  17. I admit booing, in my opinion, does not help things, which is why I never boo our own players. But I don't believe it to be a significant factor in our s***ty home record.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 02:50 PM) Exceptions to the rule? Nah, those can't happen right. You mean like the five or so individual stats that were cherry picked in this thread? Those can't be it. No, not exceptions to the rule. Meaning simply because you observe something which might indeed be harmful, it isn't always actually the cause of the harm you've diagnosed...
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 02:46 PM) Because the sum of all of our pitching and hitting isn't statistical evidence, but the individual data points which make up those totals is, but only when they prove your own side. Genius. And yes I am telling that a team struggling at home statistically is going to produce the end result of the team struggling at home to win. I'm not sure what other conclusion you would gather from those statistics. You know, there are smokers who have cancer that didn't get it from smoking cigarettes...
  20. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 02:38 PM) When added to the idea that you should stop watching the team if you don't like what you see, the translation seems to be that you shouldn't argue with or have a differing viewpoint from SS2k5 or he won't admit when he's wrong and suggest you give up the conversation since he's losing in it in everyone else's eyes I'm glad you could translate that sentence for me, because I had absolutely no idea what he was trying to say there.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 02:30 PM) I have the statistical evidence, so none of that matters. Well at least that is what you were saying before it turned out your statistical evidence wasn't that good. Honestly I have no other idea how to try to explain this to you, so that you will understand the premise, so this time I am going to type this really slowly to try to help. Players are affected by their environment. If you think that idea is as stupid as you think, quit f***ing arguing it, because that make you just as dumb as you say the premise is. No, you don't have the statistical evidence. What you have is an end result and some observations. Now you are telling us all that those observations are causing the end result and expecting us all to believe you. You should work product liability claims - you would have those major corporations shaking in their boots! I've conceded to more than several times that players are human and are affected by their environment. Unfortunately, that does not equal our struggles at home are therefore caused by our home environment. That is a ridiculous f***ing conclusion.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 02:19 PM) The statistical evidence shows that as a team they are worst at home. They are worse in hitting, pitching, and in W/L. Picking out individual exceptions ignores that. Big picture, this team is worst at home. But your premise is based on the fans booing certain players, and not even those players show some sort of statistical deviation that might lead one to believe that this negative treatment is affecting their performance. So are we really to believe the booing of Dunn actually does rub off on Quentin? That he is trying so hard to pick up Adam Dunn that he is pressing and failing more himself? I understand the concept that the team wants to impress the home crowd, and therefore, might be pressing, but there is absolutely nothing to suggest we should make the mental leap required to reach your conclusion. For about the 5th time now...Carlos Quentin, the second best hitter in our lineup hits terribly at home this year. For what reason, I don't have a damned clue. Maybe he hates being around his wife. If there is any legitimate reason for our record at home, the only argument I could possibly feel any confidence making is because Carlos is a driver of this offense, and when you take him away, our chances of winning ballgames decrease significantly.
