QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 12:47 PM) Read her post. Read how she signed the post. Uh, appearance has A LOT to do with her post! It has a lot to do with everything here. She's a good looking lady and who cares what Oney thinks? She did obviously if yu reread her post. I think Balta's point is that whether she is attractive or not has nothing to do with it. Even if she was not what most people consider to be an attractive woman, Oney's statements would still be incredibly offensive and inappropriate.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 11:34 AM) Its pretty good, definitely better on a macbook because of the "ipad-like" touch functionality. Ok...I don't have a macbook so I will probably just stick with Snow Leopard on the iMac. Pretty happy with it and I am sure I don't even scratch the surface as far as functionality goes.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 10:37 AM) Buy a DVD player. The "cheap" tablets are less than 200 but are made like crap. So is it worth upgrading to Lion? Took me forever to get into Snow Leopard...I don't use a lot of the advanced functionality of the OSX, just because I am too lazy to learn how. I know it's only $30 or something, but is it worth the trouble?

Adam Dunn Makes New York Times Front Page

The one thing I will miss about Ozzie is lines like the following: -
How quickly have we all forgotten the infamous "diminished skills" clause?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 09:19 AM) Than why does he make dumb buffoon comments. At some point, perception becomes reality. Oh and how often do you want to hear him talk about how he doesn't know who "so & so" on the Jays is who shut us down. The guy doesn't do any homework as a manager. Compare Ozzie to the top managers in baseball, whether its Joe Madden, Mike Scioscia, Girardi, LaRussa and you'll find out most of those guys watch tons of film and know what is going on. Is it there job to know all of the inner workings of a players swing, no, but they should be familiar with the scouting reports and know the team. Ozzie isn't familiar with any of it. If you've watched any of the games over the past week or 10 days, you have seen the incredible disparity not only between our opposing managers and Ozzie, but especially in our advanced scouting. Opposing pitchers have known exactly where our hitters weaknesses are and have been recently, whereas we have absolutely no opponent-specific strategy whatsoever.

QUOTE (Lauren.Teahen @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 10:01 PM) I always promised myself I would NEVER read, write or respond to one of these forums...but here I am. A Chicago friend informed me of this thread and suggested I read it. There truthfully is no story here. Many of you follow Mark on Twitter & know he is the type to throw out humor before nonsense. Why some of you chose to assume his tweet was about Oney is beyond me. We don't use twitter to take shots at people. I personally have never spoken a word to him and I can assure you my husband has had minimal contact. Once Oney opted to respond, it was made clear he assumed the tweet in question was about him. It hurts my heart to think he assumes that is how he is viewed around the Chicago White Sox clubhouse. I really have no idea or concern for Oney's occupation. What I'm most curious of is why he would be so quick to think it's him? Regardless, just as I'm sure Oney wouldn't want to be looked at as lazy person, I don't want to be looked at as the "unhealthy", "man like", "hideous" wife of Mark Teahen. It pains me that I even feel the need to defend myself. However, I'm a woman and I think it's fair to say no woman likes to be PUBLICLY criticized on their appearance. I'm 6', and played Division 1 volleyball. Do I have a petite build...no. Am I massive and man-like....umm, hardly. Did I ask to be born with an athletic build...no. Is it something I'm ashamed of...absolutely not. As far as being hideous...well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'm perfectly content with the face God gave me and I certainly don't go around criticizing the face of others. Again, I'm bothered by the fact that I couldn't be the better person and just walk away, but at the end of the day I am all woman, regardless of what Oney Guillen thinks. His words, while false, brought pain to my heart. I dare ask any of you how a woman in your life would respond put in this same terrible situation. I have never asked, nor do I ever want to be in the public eye....that's Mark's job. I didn't deserve to be publicly scrutinized and embarrassed by an individual I don't even know & who certainly doesn't know me. I'm sure a few of you will have some choice words for my response but I hope there are some of you that appreciate my coming forward and setting the record straight. The tweet was never directed at Oney nor have anything to do with Chicago, and I'm saddened assumptions, and unwarranted retaliation have occurred. I look forward to this non story being a distant memory. Mark & I truly enjoyed our time in Chicago. While he wishes things on the field would have worked out differently it just wasn't in the cards. We've moved on to the next adventure in our life and wish nothing but the best to the entire White Sox organization. Mark enjoyed playing for Ozzie and before today has never had an issue of any kind with anyone involved in MLB or their family members. Mark is a class act & perhaps can teach young Oney a thing or two about life. I'm truly blessed to have found such a wonderful man to call my husband. I'd typically end this note with Go Sox....but since I've officially been named a Lady Jay I just can't do it. Best of luck in life to you all. Be The Difference, Lauren Teahen (the hideous, unhealthy, manly wife of Mark Teahen) Lauren, have you read through the entire thread? It seems to me that you and Mark had nearly unanimous support from our entire community here. Many of us enjoyed reading Mark's tweets and wish things would have turned out better as well. I highly doubt anyone here will have any choice words for you. Best of luck in Toronto and hopefully Mark will get more of an opportunity to succeed.

Sox vs Damned Yankees 8-2 game thread
iamshack replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2011 Season in Review
Jesus, just fire Ozzie and his lunatic family already...it's pretty clear no one wants to play for him anymore. And get rid of Cora and Walker while we're at it. Make Cooper interim manager for the rest of the year and see who is interested in managing this mess next year. -
At this point, I can only guess Ozzie sits back and allows Oney to be his personal mouthpiece. At first, I believed Oney was just an out of control kid with no respect for any authority whatsoever, but it's pretty clear that Ozzie is just allowing him to say whatever he please with absolutely no repercussions whatsoever. An absolute clear sign that he is an immature, short-sighted, foolish man that should no longer be allowed to manage this ballclub any longer. The fact that many of you are lumping our General Manager into his category is incredulous to me.

Happy Birthday fellas, enjoy your day (we all know you will, J4L)!

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 12:26 PM) That's a pretty weak lineup 5-9, no wonder we're around .500. Hard to sustain any type of winning streak when you really don't have much of anything with the exception of your 2,3, and 4 hitter in today's case. Even with a weak lineup, with the way our pitching staff has performed over the last two months or so, we have definitely not won as many games as we should have.

Wow, that's not a bad get for Oakland.

Good article by Jeff Passan about the value of prospects today. J4L, I highly recommend. Linky

Putting the Rios contract disaster into context...
iamshack replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'd honestly just spend the money to get him the best sports psychologist there is....see if someone can figure out what his issue(s) is. Maybe he's got something that can be overcome like Ricky Williams did. You don't just cut him. At the very least, he can be utilized in some manner, whether it be as a late-inning defensive replacement, a pinch-runner, etc. I know we all hate to see a highly paid player suck this badly, but if you cut him, you get absolutely nothing out of him. What's to say he doesn't turn some corner and return to his production a few years ago? I know he appears to be a complete nincumpoop, but I can't stomach the notion of paying all or almost all his salary AND sending him elsewhere. Just doesn't make any sense to me. -
Good job by the Astros though at least to see the light finally. They just injected 8 young players into their system for two guys that would be leaving for FA before the team was ready to compete anyways.
-
Someone mentioned this previously...and I think they caught s*** for it, but I wonder what the Mets would need back for David Wright...Solves our 3rd base problem...the salary could be absorbed this year, but they'd obviously have to make some moves in the offseason for next year, as he will make $15 million. We need some kind of jolt offensively....otherwise I would rather just deal Q and Matt and take our chances with this division regardless...

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 10:15 PM) Well how exactly do we get a pitcher that we can control for a few years without giving up something of value. Ithis is a sellers market right now. Vi-ci-e-do
-
QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 07:46 PM) well regardless - helluva deal for Colorado. Pomeranz, White, McBride and Joe Gardner. Sick. For a pitcher who isn't even all that good (Jimenez) How do you explain your opinion of Rasmus if you're going to say that about Ubaldo?
-
The Rockies stated all along they wanted four close to mlb ready players. The risk of injury is absolutely minimal. He could injure himself simply if the negotiations were to take place tomorrow instead of today. The Rockies were prepared to hold on to him if they didn't get exactly what they wanted, and so they pitched him, as they normally would, until they got exactly that.

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 08:03 PM) heymen just said the indians are getting a 4th player, hes gone. the rockies are so dumb for starting him Dumb? I imagine the reason they started him was to get that 4th player from Cleveland...

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 08:03 PM) Interesting tweet from Heyman: SI_JonHeyman Jon Heyman appears rox now getting 4th player in deal Another 2 run double. That's 4 runs allowed by Ubaldo now. If he really doesn't want to go he'll grab his elbow now...

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 08:00 PM) that^ they were saying on the cards/cubs broadcast how jimenez's parents and sister live right by the ballpark too, in refernece to how he'd handle getting traded. cant be too happy I think his parents actually were living with him for a while...

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 01:33 PM) Sale and Ohman are perfectly capable of being the lefties out of the pen. I still don't trust Ohman as much as Matt.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 01:28 PM) The next two games won't impact whether or not anymore deals are made. If KW can get a suitable haul for Thornton, he's outta here. They probably shouldn't from a organizational standpoint, but whether we like it or not, Kenny is going to think about how the average fan is going to react to such a trade. Thornton is a fan favorite, has been here for many years, and is still an elite BP arm. Unless he gets a player he really wants, I don't see Matt getting moved.
