QUOTE (Real @ May 28, 2011 -> 09:49 AM) What's interesting about it? Technically DJ made the claim 'season done', he must be a troll! Stop using your keyboard Glad to see you're still making friends here!

QUOTE (StatManDu @ May 28, 2011 -> 09:24 AM) On this date in 1973, Dick Allen’s three-run homer off Ed Farmer in the 21st inning powered the White Sox to a 6-3 win over Cleveland in a game that began two days earlier at Comiskey Park. Bill Melton forced extra innings with a home run in the eighth inning and eight frames later the game was suspended by curfew in the 16th inning with the score 3-3. Wilbur Wood came on in the 16th and tossed five shutout innings for the win in what was the longest game in team history. Wood also started the regularly-scheduled game and tossed a four-hitter in a 4-0 before 17,419 at 35th and Shields. Wood gave up two walks with four strikeouts in improving to 13-3. 13-3 on May 28th! Wow!

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 28, 2011 -> 02:57 AM) So basically, it's like we re-signed Bobby Jenks, except he's now Edwin Jackson and has morphed into a new and improved (theoretically) version of Joel Zumaya. Since we can't even DFA Pena, there's no way in hell they're putting Jackson in the bullpen. The only time we've done something similar was El Duque in 2005, and I think he was making around $6.5 million that year, but there was actually the experience factor in the playoffs to consider with him, as well as his success against the Red Sox as a Yankee. Something's going go give before it comes to that move, in all likelihood. You either have quite an imagination, or quite the stash of hallucinagenics, my friend.

QUOTE (Tex @ May 24, 2011 -> 12:24 PM) Why not take the word of the people who post here? I wouldn't post here if I felt everyone, or even the vast majority of posters, lied. It's not about them "lying," Tex. Let's take a poll and see what percentage of posters think they could do a better job than the President now. Do you think that would be an accurate number of people who could honestly do a better job than the President? C'mon man...

QUOTE (fathom @ May 27, 2011 -> 06:06 PM) I wonder just how far Rios has to fall before Ozzie considers benching him? I just think he believes he's going to need Dunn and Rios if we are going to win anything, so he's trying to let them play their way out of it. He's always allowed veterans to do that, while overprotecting rookies, such as Morel. At some point, the key players on this team have to perform or it doesn't matter who he's benching, really. -

QUOTE (JoshPR @ May 27, 2011 -> 05:46 PM) Wow what the he'll is gotten into Pierre? Well he always seems to be a bit of a late starter...he did this same thing for us last year...and he did it for the Cubs when he was with them too. Maybe he also senses his job may be on the line..... -
QUOTE (qwerty @ May 27, 2011 -> 04:33 PM) I love how it took him half (if not slightly more) of the movie to search the entire coffin for items. I mean come on. Buried was most definitely a flawed film in several aspects. With that said... i believe it was just about as good of a film that it could be given the circumstance. A 95 minute movie solely in a coffin? That is simply an incredible task at hand for anyone. I'll personally be giving rodrigo cortés (the director) another chance(s) in the future. I just kept getting pissed that he was using the lighter WHILE he was using the phone. I kept thinking the lighter was going to run out of butane when he could have just used the light provided by the damn phone. I also found it a bit odd that he was such an incredible spaz, but I guess they did make it clear that he had an anxiety condition.

Anyone here seen Buried yet? The entire movie is Ryan Reynolds inside a wooden coffin. Pretty creepy movie...not sure how I feel about it yet even...but definitely dark.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 27, 2011 -> 01:26 PM) His 3's which is probably going to be better than at least 2 other members of the rotation. Which is the point, not whether or not he sustains his current pace.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 27, 2011 -> 12:06 PM) So do you mean to say trade Ejax or Danks then? Because Danks would return the most, and if the production isnt that far off the rest of the way... I am saying put Jackson in the pen or trade Danks. The return would be greater for Danks, so if you are going to move one, you move him. If you are going to stash one in the bullpen to buy time to see 1) whether Humber falters; 2) whether Peavy can stay healthy; or 3) whether we get back into this race and start pushing Cleveland, then I think it needs to be Jackson so that you preserve Danks' trade value and possibly his confidence.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ May 27, 2011 -> 11:52 AM) Based on performance right now, it should be Danks. He has the worst peripherals out of all the starters. Humber's probably the best starter on the team right now, putting him in the bullpen isn't really an option. It has to be between Danks and Jackson. If you put Danks in the pen, you lessen your chance of retaining him. Jackson is the better pitcher right now, but you're most likely going to forget about him after this season anyhow. It really depends on how the front office views the outlook in the next few years. Personally, I think the 6 man rotation is working fine. Is it fair to say Danks and Jackson are fairly close though? If so, I think you have to error on the side of Jackson for multiple reasons...
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 27, 2011 -> 10:20 AM) Humber is more important to this franchise in the present and in the future than Jackson or Buehrle. I'm fine with leaving the 6 man rotation together, but we need to help out the bullpen by finding someone to replace Pena. Crain and Santos are going to get burned out if not. But are they really pitching innings they wouldn't already be even if we had a 5-man rotation? The problem seems to be Thornton to me, not how many starters we have in the rotation.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 27, 2011 -> 09:41 AM) Shack's having a little trouble with reading comprehension today. EDIT: or not. My argument has honestly been that Humber has been the best starter, and thus should remain in the rotation. However, that should not be confused with me saying he must remain as such to stay in the rotation. That is not a circular argument.
-
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 27, 2011 -> 10:40 AM) *Raises hand I think that was directed at me. No, it was directed at me alright. I think that certain people have taken up such a hard stance about the Jackson/Hudson trade that it has caused Jackson to be a bit of a polarizing figure in here. Now I have been Jackson's biggest fan, or one of them anyways, and even I can see that Humber deserves to push him to the pen. I honestly would rather Danks go, but I don't want to crush his trade value right now, so I say if you can't stick with the 6 man rotation (and I am not sure why you can't), then Jackson has to be the one to go.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2011 -> 10:34 AM) Its really apparent he is just looking to troll at this point. Are you kidding me? Wtf are you talking about? I may argue with certain posters quite a bit in here, but Russ knows I am always very interested in his opinion and very respectful of his posts. Trolling? After 6 years and 10,000 posts I am f***ing trolling?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2011 -> 10:33 AM) And you have no idea how it is circular to say that Humber is our best starter so we can't send him to the pen, but even if he isn't our best starter, you can't send him to the pen? That passes for logic? Yeah, ok. It's not circular whatsoever. Did you ever take a logic class? I am working off of two premises here. 1) Humber has been our best starter. 2) The starting pitcher that goes to the bullpen should be the worst starter. Now you are telling us: If Humber is not the best starter, he should go to the bullpen. This makes absolutely zero sense whatsoever. My argument is that he has been the best starter thus far, however, as long as he is not the worst starter, he should not go to the bullpen. This does not stike me as a circular argument.
-
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 27, 2011 -> 10:28 AM) I thought it was the amazing track record that EJax has of beein wildly inconsistent taht we wanted him to be in the rotation!? Come on, dude...this is not about Jackson versus Hudson. This is about Humber. For all those that are upset about Hudson's departure, at least we have found another cheap effective arm to replace him. Now let's not screw it up by moving him to the pen.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2011 -> 10:25 AM) That is the argument YOU JUST MADE. Good god, this is why I shouldn't argue with you. I am getting dizzy from the circles. Walking away now. No, I MADE THE ARGUMENT THAT HE HAS BEEN THE BEST STARTER. I never made the argument that he has to continue to be the best starter in order to remain in the rotation. Your argument is based in absolutely zero logic whatsoever.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2011 -> 10:22 AM) Phil Humber is not the Sox best starter. He has been the best so far this year, but he is not the best Sox starter. He also won't end the season as their best starter. Assuming that is foolish, as is assuming that it is OK to sacrifice games because Jackson doesn't adjust well to the pen. Why the hell does he have to be the best starter? That is not the argument here. The point is that he isn't even close to being the worst starter, which is the guy that should go to the pen. By your logic, we should have never believed in Gavin Floyd. They have extremely similar histories and stuff. How can you be so quick to dismiss Humber when we have the history of Floyd sitting right here in our faces?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2011 -> 10:07 AM) Jose Bautista was a 20th round pick. Putting aside the fantasy that Humber will have a better season than the Sox starters, here is my problem with putting Jackson into the pen over Humber. 3.5 BB/9 versus 2.0 BB/9n this year. Jackson goes through some crazy control issues. I'm not quite sure when you let him go all out in the pen with not worrying about a pitch count that it would get better. You can't have guys walking people coming out of the pen. If you are really convinced the Phil Humber is the next Gavin Floyd, you have to trade Jackson IMO. I like his stuff, but I am not sure the pen would work for him. Looking at his career, the year he spent mostly in the pen was the worst BB/9 of his career by far (6.2). Well considering that Jackson is a FA after this year, what player are you more concerned with, in terms of his future with the ballclub? Jackson or Humber? I stated earlier the only way I could see putting Humber in the pen is to audition one of the other starters for a trade. Otherwise it is foolishness to be concerned about how Jackson might do in the pen in order to take your best starter out of the rotation.
-
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ May 27, 2011 -> 09:46 AM) I agree. Putting Humber in the pen because history shows he shouldn't be this good doesn't make any sense. The guy is pitching better than any other guy in the starting rotation. He deserves to be there right now. If he was throwing up a bunch of mediocre s*** and fielders were just catching line drives all the over the field against him, it would be one thing. But this guy has given up 43 hits in 60 innings! He's had a nasty curve and a well-located fastball. He's always had the stuff and the arm. Now granted, he will regress a bit, but he's pitching very well right now. And he has the stuff to continue to pitch well for us. Why is it so difficult to believe that he may be finally fulfilling his promise with us? Especially after so many other guys have seen a lightbulb come on under Cooper?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2011 -> 09:36 AM) So other than his history and his unsustainable numbers, there is nothing to say he will regress. Ok. I probably should be done here. Your argument is that since he cannot possibly be THIS good, he should be put in the bullpen. Do you realize how ridiculous of a position that is? Even if he does regress a bit, he would still be outperforming our entire starting rotation...why the f*** would you put him into the pen?
