  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 24, 2011 -> 04:09 PM) Dude, $5 million for one month is not a flyer. It was money that was going to be spent on Manny or nothing at all.
  2. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 24, 2011 -> 04:02 PM) After Rios' second half last season, I really wanted the Sox to ride the value he built back up and trade him for a crap prospect, and maybe move some other pieces to find a replacement. That contract was bad last year, and is still bad now, getting out from under it would have been amazing. For whatever reason, his contract doesn't bug me nearly as much as some others because he plays a premium defensive position well. If he plays good defense, I at least feel it's not a complete waste, especially considering the complete lack of replacements within our system. it's basically Rios or Lilli. Peavy's contract bugs me infinitely more than Rios'.
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 24, 2011 -> 03:45 PM) I'm not pissed about the Dunn signing, I'd be crazy to be... he's going to get his. His was a can't miss deal that has missed so far, but he'll pay off... Rios is Kenny's "your fired" move. Manny was just bonus. Rios was probably worth his salary last year. We're actually not much behind in terms of performance/pay right now with him. It's not looking particularly great this year, but that can still change.
  4. Manny was a flyer, and we all knew that. I seem to remember the Dunn signing being overwhelmingly backed here. Funny now that most people seem to be forgetting that already.
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 24, 2011 -> 03:25 PM) Yeah, after being told to "get it done", "all in", "sling gun", he got it done. Dear Lord, what has it come to that I want Kenny Williams fired? sad face But don't you think they consider his opinion as to which players to sign/acquire? They listen to Ozzie for pete's sakes...
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 24, 2011 -> 01:41 PM) I don't want to blow the team up. You clearly are inferring what you aren't reading. I want someone f***ing fired to show that people will be held accountable in this franchise. We have a fully capable, highly regarded Assistant GM who can take the reigns. And hell, maybe fire the manager and the hitting coach of a roster that perennially underperforms. That doesn't mean trade every player. I'm more venting towards the general feeling around here than you specifically. I'd be fine with losing Ozzie at this point. I would hope that highly capable Asst GM is contributing to the decisions of the current regime rather than doing absolutely nothing because he's second fiddle.
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 24, 2011 -> 01:31 PM) Yes, because clearly when moron fans agree with gunslinger Kenny, that means it's all their fault and no one should ever be held accountable. Clearly, we're all idiots. "SWISHER GON' DOMINATE IN THE CELL!!! MANNYPALOOZA!! (my bad) WOOT GRIFFEYTALK!!! TCQ MVP!!! WOOHOO!!" You know, that stuff. Soxtalk agreed with "All-In"... well, that's f***ing great. Guess what happens when you go "All-In" and wind up with a losing hand? Oh yeah, your game ends and someone takes your seat. I'm not saying it's anyone's fault. All I'm saying is that a lot of people agreed to buy the $75k Range Rover here. Now that it's turned out to have reliability issues, everyone wants to trade it in for $20k less than we owe. Well guess what, if you want to do that, you'd better be prepared to walk to work for a few years...
  8. There are certain things reasonable men can disagree on. Whether or not Brooklyn Decker is hot is not one of them.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 24, 2011 -> 01:18 PM) Exactly. This team is f***ed. Hence why we need to perhaps hold accountable the person(s) responsible for the f***ing of this team. But patience is required. If you supported the signing of Adam Dunn, and the resigning of PK, you implicitly signed up for at the very least, one to two full more years of this core. This is what frustrates me to no end about the posters saying "blow it up," "fire everyone," etc. You don't signAdam Dunn and Paul Konerko and then decide to rebuild when things aren't going peachy after 50 games. That option evaporated when you took this latest course of action and re-upped on this core. It makes no sense whatsoever, given the makeup of this roster and the payroll of this roster, to blow everything to smithereens after 50 games. It cannot be done effectively. Supporting the signing of Dunn and Konerko meant supporting more years of this group we have, and we're going to have to lie in that bed. Edit: Recall I supported neither of those signings, ironically.

QUOTE (Art Vandelay @ May 24, 2011 -> 11:33 AM) I am going in today to sign my offer letter and get the background check started and also complete the drug test. It's been a long 14 months but I'm finally back! Congrats, Art! But you never told us how things played out with Company A and Company B?
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 24, 2011 -> 12:28 PM) You say we're better off going for the division and hoping to maintain payroll. Who's going for the division? This team has been out of it almost the entire season and has shown no signs of being a division contender unless for some reason we have Cleveland's number and beat them all year. I mean win almost every game against them. We still can't beat the Twins head to head and have only played them twice. They will dominate us again this year. We can't beat Det. We'll go .500 at best vs. KC. Sox are toast, so why not dump salary??? Try something different and that means dumping Rios, Peavy, Dunn, Mark or Jackson and AJP. Start the reloading now. Dump as much salary as you can. NO ONE WANTS THE SALARY OF THOSE PLAYERS.
  12. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 24, 2011 -> 11:46 AM) So, you're saying that a fan should just stop watching or supporting a team because the team isn't doing well and/or the fan knows that they won't be doing well? What you're doing is the equivalent of calling her every night and asking her "Why are you doing this to me? Why, why, why, why, why? Why can't you just love me? Please? Please?" And trust me, no one would berate you if you chose to not follow the team closely this year, given your obvious displeasure with the entire roster, the manager, the general manager, the owner, the ball boys, the catering staff, the custodial staff, the valet guys, the mid-office personnel, the back office personnel, the rest of the front office personnel not yet mentioned, the minor league development staff, the minor league hitting instructors, the minor league pitching instructors, our regional scouts, our international scouts, and our beer vendors.
  13. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ May 24, 2011 -> 06:23 AM) Considering what Dunn's expected BA was, there's plenty of time for him to improve. But there's no doubt he's struggling mightily. He will have to turn it around quickly in order to hit even 30 HRs. If he ends up with 650 plate appearances and continues on this pace he'll end up with 105 hits, 37 2Bs 15 HRs, and 78 RBIs. The hits and HRs would be career lows when he has at least 600 PAs. Oddly enough though it would be a career high for 2Bs. I certainly don't see Dunn ending with stats that poor, but I'd think his HR total will be closer to 28-30 instead of 40+ as we had expected/hoped. We really don't care what he ends up with at the end of the season. What we want to see is him produce to his career norms from here on out. If he were to do that, I think we'd be in pretty good shape.
  14. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 24, 2011 -> 02:29 AM) I can't figure out if I heard about this, or if it's just a good idea I conjured up at some point, but I am looking for a site for part-time jobs that allows the managers to upload the weekly shift schedules online, and allow employees to put shifts up to be taking, request to pick up shifts, or swap shifts. I work at a restaurant, and it would be very helpful for us to be able to not only see our schedules without having to go in on a day off, but also to swap shifts with people easily. Anyone know if this site exists? I tried googling it, but to no avail. There is a software program called sharepoint that our company uses for employees to communicate online like that. Otherwise, you could just have the restaurant start a facebook page and do it that way, perhaps?
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 23, 2011 -> 11:05 PM) OK I was thinking about this tonight after the loss and Cleveland's win. Sox main goal ASAP should be to deal Rios, Peavy and Dunn. If it takes til the All Star break, fine, but start working on it now. Get rid of those guys and try to reassess what to do with the money. Also trade Mark or Danks or Jackson, one of the starters. I guess Mark would be the smartest to deal. OK you get rid of all that salary in Mark, Rios, Peavy and Dunn. Start rebuilding from there. Hopefully the Yankees and Red Sox will give us something good for Peavy/Dunn/Rios and Mark. Those 2 teams should want all those guys. No one is going to want to take on Rios and Peavy's contract right now. You're most likely going to have to eat a very good portion of that money, which, if that is the case, is not really accomplishing anything since you have no one waiting in the wings that they are blocking.
  16. QUOTE (southsidepride15 @ May 23, 2011 -> 10:12 PM) If your favorite sports teams don't affect your outlook on life then you have no soul. Hah, I am not saying it shouldn't affect your outlook...I am certainly in an overall better mood when my favorite teams are playing well. But I learned the hard way that when you start allowing it to dictate whether you are happy or not, well you are setting yourself up for a lifetime of misery in my opinion...
  17. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 23, 2011 -> 08:35 PM) They got Freddie Garcia in early June so KW will make early June deals, I can see it both ways. Yeah, you can sometimes get more if you trade him earlier rather than later...and it isn't like the Yankees or Red Sox are not going to be buyers at the deadline this year, so that takes some of the importance of waiting out of the equation, but the longer it becomes apparent that they need pitching the higher the value we should be able to extract.
  18. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 23, 2011 -> 08:30 PM) Time to deal IMO. I think we should hold onto him until he can 1) get back on track; 2) we see more out of Peavy and Humber; and 3) we can extract maximum value based on timing.
  19. QUOTE (Real @ May 23, 2011 -> 09:26 PM) Well you got one thing right, when this team is horrible they make me miserable. No one should allow a baseball team to affect their life like that. I am as a big a fan as anyone, but once you start allowing a bunch of men that don't know you to dictate your happiness, there is a problem.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2011 -> 09:23 PM) So with Ozzie saying that the 6 man rotation will be done in a week, anyone think Danks is going to get pulled from the rotation? I say he's the leading candidate right now. That would be a disgrace, and trading him to Yankees is such a better idea. I don't think it would be Danks. I think it would be Edwin.
  21. QUOTE (Real @ May 23, 2011 -> 09:20 PM) So because Adam Dunn sucks, I need a therapist? Do you play a dumbass in real life, or just on message boards? No, because I don't think you've ever said a positive thing in your life. You allow Adam Dunn's suckiness to make you a miserable person. Let's not pretend as if you don't get called out on a regular basis for this either.
  22. I am sure he is, Greg. But let's try to keep some sense of perspective here. Patience is a very important virtue for a GM.
  23. QUOTE (Real @ May 23, 2011 -> 09:13 PM) lol at this team having a chance to win the division, say hello to your new designated hitter, hitting a buck eighty nine. yeah that'll get it done, f***ing worthless I think you need a therapist.
  24. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 23, 2011 -> 09:11 PM) As were the other 7 times shutouts this season hit the ball score some runs put your bigboy pants on.........Sox have 1000 excuses they are all older than crap. Not making excuses at all, and I get tired of the "tip your cap" excuse too. But it's just one game...let's keep things in perspective now...we have some momentum going and losing a game to Texas with probably their best pitcher on the mound isn't cause to panic.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2011 -> 08:59 PM) Offense needs to show up this road trip, or the season could be over. We face a lot of powerful offenses, and we're going to have to score more than a few runs to win most of the games. The offense has been showing up. Ogando is a pretty nasty pitcher. We'll be ok.
