  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 14, 2011 -> 08:09 PM) You're probably right. It's hard for me to gauge playground hoops. Whatever. I'm done with this topic. I'm waiting for Sunday to f***ing get here. Bulls by 7 tomorrow night. J4L, Who do you like better in a one on one matchup between Jordan and LeBron, best of 7 games?
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ May 14, 2011 -> 07:00 PM) I kind of joked about this in a game thread last week, but wouldn't it make some sense to look into a big trade with the Mets to get Jose Reyes? In know it sounds far fetched on the surface to have a message board trade idea, but why not look into a Reyes/Beltran for Alexei/Quentin or prospects trade? Maybe some other pieces in there. Mets would move Reyes, and get some cost certainty with Alexei. Beltran would get off the books, and the Sox would only have them the rest of the year, so there isn't a long term commitment. They just can't afford to have Pierre out there much more, and if they're going for broke this season, they need to do something about it soon. Probably because we don't have $20 million extra dollars sitting around right now.
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 14, 2011 -> 05:08 PM) Penny was a better post player than Pippen. Even in a 2 on 2 he's not humiliating Wade in the post. He didn't have the footwork, strength or body control to bully Wade down-low. You're attributing this to Pippen being 2-3 inches taller. And I have seen competitive 2-2, 3 vs 3. White Men Can't Jump style. Which is exactly why I laugh when people act like it'd be no contest. He didn't have the strength? Oh man...you don't play defense as well as Scottie played defense without being a strong mfer. Another reason Scottie didn't post much was because MJ was always posting. Pippen was MJ's major outlet when a double team came. Another thing is Pippen is long. I think you're just wrong if you think he wouldn't just back him down, call for the ball, and hit a litany of short jumpers, layups, and dunks on Wade.
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 14, 2011 -> 04:53 PM) You can continue to get smart. I meant with this team. I've been sick of KW/Ozzie for over a year now. I'm serious dude. Very few fans are blessed enough to grow up cheering for a team that wins titles or goes deep in the playoffs more than once or twice a decade. It's what sports is. You can either embrace that fact or take up selling Longaberger baskets with your aunt.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 14, 2011 -> 05:55 PM) Since when was Scottie a great post player? Why on earth are you claiming to be some freaking streetball expert and ask me that question? He didn't play in the post much in the NBA because they have 7 foot centers there. In a 2 on 2 game, a weak or even average defender is going to get eaten alive in the post by a bigger player, especially a player talented enough on offense to be a HoF NBA player. Have you never watched competitve 2 on 2 or 3 on 3 tournaments? The Shoot the Bull? Scottie would back Wade down and score on dunks and easy shots. And if LeBron tried to help, you're leaving the best player in the world open. I just don't see LeBron and Wade being able to shut Jordan and Pippen down nearly as much as Jordan and Pippen would shut them down.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 14, 2011 -> 05:50 PM) What is vast majority? 80% of the time? That's homer goggles to me. It'd be epic. We're not talking MJ/Pippen vs Joe Johnson and Josh Smith. I said 75% of the time, yes. If they put Scottie down low in the post, with Wade defending him, tell me how often he's going to stop him?
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 14, 2011 -> 05:43 PM) I knew my baseball at an early age. I've just evolved since then. This team sucks. I'm not even expecting some mammoth run in which they get back to, whoa, .500. Only to s*** their pants for the 9th time in 11 seasons (would've been 10 times had we not won a coinflip). I want something different. This s*** just doesn't work. You should probably give up sports then and take up knitting.
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 14, 2011 -> 05:35 PM) I miss the 90's. Those teams had guys that you just wanted to stop and watch hit or pitch. Thomas, Ventura, Jackson, Raines, McDowell. Albert Belle for the two seasons he was here. Yeah, and the fact that you were 12 and didn't want to tell them all they really weren't good at playing baseball the entire day.
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 14, 2011 -> 04:31 PM) Then why bring it up? I'm sure B.J. Armstrong guarded MJ in practice plenty. Not comparing Armstrong and Pippen. But LeBron would present challenges in a playground 2 on 2 that even Jordan couldn't. Remember. No help D or doubleteams. No coaching strategy. No refs. Just pure street ball. I wasn't conceding the point, I was making fun of your lame reply. I'm sure if we asked someone that was around those practices, there would be some pretty good stories about the battles they had in practice. You admit Scottie was the best defensive SF in the game. How do you suppose he got that way? Umm...guarding Michael in practice every day? This is pure speculation about two players from different eras so I'm not sure what the hell you are asking me to produce video for. We'll never know the truth. But in two on two basketball, with one having the best two defenders on the court, and the best one-on-one player of all time, I'll take them to win the vast majority of the time. Sure, LeBron is a physical freak, but he doesn't have a complete game yet and Wade is not going to shut down Scottie defensively, especially in the post. Sure, all 4 are 4 of the best players to ever pick up a basketball, so I am sure Wade and LeBron would catch fire a few games and win, but I don't think that would happen enough to offset the defense played by Jordan and Pippen and the mismatches on offense.
  10. Link It's pretty clear that Scottie cut his teeth versus the best of all time in his prime. I think he could handle LeBron.
  11. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 14, 2011 -> 05:18 PM) Well until your produce some video of Pippen shutting down Jordan in practice your point is invalid. There is a video of MJ and Pip going at it in a charity game hosted by Pippen in '94. And MJ raped him. Hah! Ok. My point is invalid while I go in search of the lost practice videos. And a charity game? Who plays hard in a charity game? I'm not saying MJ couldn't school Pippen either. Jordan was the best player to ever play the game IMO.
  12. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 14, 2011 -> 04:08 PM) This could be just me, but I think Howard destroys Duncan in a 1 on 1. The athleticism and strength would be too much. Does that mean Howard is a better player overall? Hell no. People are looking at this as Jordan/Pippen won 6 rings, how could LeBron Wade compete? It's not about that in playground 2 on 2. Scottie is probably the best SF defender ever. But he's never seen ANYTHING like LeBron. Dude is like 260 with the athleticism of young Jordan. The best SG MJ saw during his era was prime Clyde Drexler. Wade is better, IMO. It'd be a hell of a matchup. Dude, you don't think Scottie guarded MJ in practice all the time? Scottie defended the best player ever in his prime, in 1 on 1 games. You're crazy if you think he hasn't seen ANYTHING like LeBron. I just think Scottie would frustrate LeBron enough, MJ would battle Wade pretty well, and then LeBron would have to turn around and play defense on MJ. Meanwhile Jordan would let Pippen post Wade when MJ wanted to catch his breath. I have no idea about your Howard/Duncan scenario, but I have seen enough 1-1 and 2-2 to know that the guy with the goofy arsenal of 10-15 footers that he hits consistently usually annoys the hell out of the stronger physical player.
  13. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 14, 2011 -> 05:00 PM) Let me ask you this: Dwight Howard vs prime Tim Duncan 1 on 1 in a random gym? I have no idea. Howard would own Duncan on the inside, but Duncan would score with his lame arsenal of weird big man shots from away from the rim.
  14. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 14, 2011 -> 02:07 PM) That's actually what I expect. And you are right about the consistency part. All you do is cry about people getting on you because of your pessimistic attitude. So what are you doing now? Getting on others for their optimistic attitude. I'm looking at the last 5 years of track records for a lot of these guys, and those numbers suggest a major correction is coming. I'm excited to watch it happen.
  15. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 14, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) It has nothing to do with "bounce in their step." They're simply playing better baseball. And it's not surprising. This isn't a 65-70 win team. Consistency, save 2005, has always been the major issue during the Ozzie/KW era. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see this team get back to .500 only to revert back to their earlier struggles. It has everything to do with the bounce in their step. Do you not think baseball is a mental game? How the f*** else are you going to explain those first 30 games? They started pressing and doubting and now they got so bad they just don't give a s***, so they're playing freely and the talent is coming through.
  16. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 14, 2011 -> 03:45 PM) should've let Heads start the thread. bad juju Yeah, what happened to the rule?
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 14, 2011 -> 02:57 PM) 2 on 2 playground hoops is totally different from organized 5 on 5. To suggest that LeBron and Wade could take Jordan and Pippen is not saying that they're the better duo overall. If they played each other 100 times, is it so appalling to think they'd split? Maybe 55-45 in favor of MJ/Pip? I'm not really sure what you're saying here, but no, I do not think they would split. Now if you want to put Shaq in his prime with LeBron, yeah MJ and Pippen would have some major problems. But I just think Pippen and MJ would shut down LeBron and Wade far more than the other way around. I'd say Jordan and Pippen win about 75% of the time.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 14, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) Of course, that's why I qualified it with "right now." I don't foresee this team going on another losing streak like that. I've been wrong before, but it seems that the worst is behind them. They have a different bounce in their step right now. I think it got so bad that they said the hell with it, let's have some fun and see what happens. And now we are seeing the results of the talent taking over. Getting the bullpen settled into their roles is starting to produce results, and the bats are starting to heat up a bit. I'd be surprised to not see a sustained run of .550-600 baseball over the next few months.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 14, 2011 -> 12:28 PM) Are people really getting all up in arms over a worthless 2 on 2 debate? I'm sure if LeBron/Wade played prime Jordan/Pippen that they'd win plenty of times. Just as Jordan/Pippen would win plenty of times. Nothing to get excited about here. Pippen would stick LeBron pretty well. Pippen was one of the better defensive non-centers of all-time. I think Jordan being the best player on the court, and both Bulls players being better defenders than either of those two (although I realize LeBron is a very good defender) would allow MJ and Pipp to win most of the time. LeBron would slow down MJ a bit because of his size, but no one was stopping MJ in his prime. Would make for some awesome 2 on 2 games though.
  20. QUOTE (Maxwell @ May 14, 2011 -> 01:16 PM) Tell anne frank to hide. My apologies if that's what it seemed like I was saying. I certainly was not.
  21. I just like Sergio or SS... I can't keep up with all the nicknames. This isn't the 4th grade YMCA team.
  22. He wasn't exactly getting hammered...just a bunch of bulls*** hits...Crain could have easily given up the same hits...that one to Suzuki was ridiculous.

    Job Hunt Thread

Flying to Portland Monday for an interview. Took them a month to get back to me after the phone interview. These employers really know how to screw with you...
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 12, 2011 -> 07:52 AM) um, ok. Didn't realize that was a problem. It's just something that's been very prevalent around here lately. Oh, he's not a good basketball player? Because I was more concerned with his cooking skills as opposed to his skills in the sport he plays professionally... Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 12, 2011 -> 07:35 AM) Do you think he is? At least one of the bonehead turnovers yesterday was on him, IIRC. I wasn't referring to Green. I was referring to your comment in the "____ is just not a good ____ball player" format...
