Bears versus Packers game thread

QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Jan 23, 2011 -> 10:32 PM) Cutler has been sacked and beaten up for 2 years, yet I've never heard him say anything negative about his line's peformance. He has receivers (mainly Knox and Hester) who frequently give up on balls and don't break up poor throws, but he doesn't lash out at them like Marino, Rivers, and PManning have done. And, yet, he's got a rep as a bad teammate. I don't get it. He left the game today and stayed on the sideline injured. That doesn't mean his knee was stable enough to plant for throws. He wasn't pouting. When they showed him on the bike on the sidelines, it's not like he was doing his best Lance Armstrong impression. He was peddling slowly, and he problably didn't show enough strength and range of motion to go back into the game. When Taylor scored, they showed him smile and cheer. When Hainie was on the bench, Cutler was next to him going over plays. Is that being a bad teammate? All the guys who tweeted about him quitting are pathetic and they really should know better. MJD didn't play his last few games this year while his team was fighting for a playoff spot. Should his toughness be questioned? Lance Moore missed 9 games in '09 while his team was having their best season ever. This season, he's part of the team that was eliminated by the worst team in playoff history. Is his coomitment to winning up for debate? Deion Sanders never met a player on the football field that he wasn't afraid to hit. I guess there's no debate there. Once a loudmouth, always a loudmouth. Yet they question Cutler's toughness and commitment. This is kind of like the David Wells - Frank Thomas thing. What tools. Need attention much? You're talking about what he says to the press. I admire the way he has not thrown teammates under the bus to the press. His reputation in the locker room might be different. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 23, 2011 -> 10:04 PM) He CLEARLY limped off the field after the first drive in the 2nd half. He was not limping in his final series. Yes, he may have been hurt. Was he incapable of playing? I gotta question it. I know Jay is tough, and so I really don't like questioning him, but at the same time, he has been known to mope quite a bit. I just wonder if the injury would have been treated differently had we been tied or winning the game, or had the score been closer. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 23, 2011 -> 10:09 PM) Yeah, no. The Carolina game and the 2nd half vs the Giants should have closed the book on Collins. His being sent out to completely waste 3 series is unacceptable. Any idiot could see he has no talent. Like I said, it was a waste of good field position and might have cost us the game. I smell what you're stepping in. Maybe I am just accustomed to silly Bears coaching decisions. -

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 23, 2011 -> 09:29 PM) CUtler reportedly wanted back in, but the coaching staff wouldn't let him. It was Lovie/Trainers call Bottom line is we're not going to hear anything different than this sort of thing. But the guy was not limping in the first series of the second half and he was standing up for most of the half on his "torn MCL." I'm sorry, but this is the biggest game of your career. You go out and play unless you can no longer be effective because of the injury. With the arm Jay has, he could have been effective. He was moping on the sidelines all first half and actually seemed to be in much better spirits in the second half once he was out of the game. And to Steve's point about Collins/Hanie, I actually thought it was quite impressive that they made the move as quickly as they did. It's a shame Mike Martz had to get fancy on a 3rd and 3 in 4 down territory. It would have been a hell of a game to come back and push the game into overtime with our 3rd string quarterback. Hell of a game by our defense today. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 23, 2011 -> 11:19 AM) He's under contract for 2 years, so that's the longest they could keep him off TV. It probably is similar to Conan's circumstance, where if he comes back on another channel he gets paid less. Rachel Maddow was on Bill Maher's show on Friday night and made everything seem very amicable, however, who knows if that is really the truth. Maybe he'll move to Mexico like Jesse Ventura

Heading out to the M casino in Henderson, NV. They have the in-game betting there, where you can choose the outcomes of any given possession, series, fg kick, etc. Should be fun. Really excited for the game, but have been sort of resigning myself to a loss all week. I'm just not feeling it this year as I was in 05/06. Go Bears! Everyone enjoy the games!

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 22, 2011 -> 11:02 PM) It's funny, on another board I wrote that exact same post above (actually copied/pasted from there) and the next post after it was someone asking if anyone's going to get Dead Space 2. Hah! Dead Space was the scariest game I have ever played by far. It does get a little repetitive but I will definitely be picking up the second one. I am off Mon-Thurs this week with nothing really to do, so I will be getting my ps3 on for sure.
-
I have to get back in to Dead Space so I can be ready for Dead Space 2!

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 22, 2011 -> 09:40 PM) ^^I don't get the point of that... Me neither. This is just tinkerers wanting to tinker.

QUOTE (G&T @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 10:38 AM) Colin Cowherd is the worst radio personality ever. He sucks. You shouldn't listen or care. Oh I really don't care. Yesterday his opening topic was that the home field advantage doesn't mean much in football anymore because of all the corporate season ticket holders. Today the Bears will win because they play on a field with the consistency of Chunky Soup. Just such a fool.
-
Colin Cowherd chiming in this morning that should the Bears beat GB on Sunday, they would be the worst Super Bowl team ever. He then backed off a bit... And said the 05/06 Bears team might be worse...

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 06:30 PM) I'm sure the White Sox will be thrilled if Morel turns out to be like Crede. From what DocSox has told me, that is exactly who the White Sox are expecting him to turn out like.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 18, 2011 -> 06:21 PM) I'd say we're not. In general, in terms of hours work, we work our ass off. Hmm, I can understand if you think people work long hours in this country, but as a workforce, many, many more of us now work office jobs, sitting in front of a computer, doing clerical work or some kind of analysis. I don't want to get into the idea of whether this is truly "lazy" or not, but it is not the type of work that burns calories very effectively. We used to have a lot more manufacturing and manual labor-intensive positions, and this is where our eating habits were developed. Americans ate whatever they wanted to because they could - the energy expended in doing their jobs required vast intakes of calories. So we are still eating this way but not working the way Americans did in the past, and thus, the obesity, the heart-disease, etc. Whether you want to call that lazy or not, the point is there is no need, in fact, we cannot afford to continue the eating habits we have as a nation, because we simply don't expend the calories working that Americans did in the past.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 17, 2011 -> 05:36 PM) According to the Green Bay Press Gazette, Greg Jennings was quoted saying "I'm more worried about who we going to be playing in the superbowl, not the Bears. We already there , in my opinion we already there, ain't no game to be played Sunday, we already there." Very surprised after what I just saw him saying on ESPN. Sounds like he is singing two different tunes, one to the national media and another to the GB media.

QUOTE (G&T @ Jan 17, 2011 -> 05:59 PM) No the Bears have to run the ball and control time of possession. Cutler will need to make some big throws, but the running game is where this game has to be won. The Pack has averaged 19 ppg against teams with top 10 rushing defenses based on rushing ypg. And that's including 45 points against the Giants and 2 drubbings of the Vikings. Just taking out the Giants game the average drops to 16 ppg. If you start looking through the numbers it becomes clear that the Pack is a defensive team with a one dimensional offense. They will likely struggle to score points against the Bears (as has been proven on the field). They are beatable if you don't allow big plays from Rodgers and maintain balance. The one case where that formula didn't work was against the Jets and that's because Sanchez threw 2 picks. That's where Cutler has to be smart. Well that much is pretty obvious, but the difference between doing that without Jay playing well and with him playing well is basically the last game of the season. They're not going to be able to run on the Packers unless they are able to convert some big plays in the passing game.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 17, 2011 -> 03:56 PM) Rodgers is completing 71.6 of his passes vs The Bears this year. So its not out of the question that he has a good day. I'm pretty sure he will have a good day. I think if the Bears are going to win, it's going to have to be at the hands of Jay Cutler. He's going to have to do some things that not a lot of teams have done against the Packers' defense. I think the game is going to be a lot like the first game was, except that the Packers aren't going to commit 20 penalties, so the Bears are going to have to play better. I'm going to guess 28-27 Bears.

I imagine Dallas has to be thrilled. They've got 4 teams with fanbases that travel extremely well. In 06', when the Bears were in the SB in Miami, I went down there with a bunch of friends, and it was like Chicago Beach instead of South Beach. A ton of Chicago money was in town spending money, and there were very few fans from Indianapolis there in comparison. The Packers and Steelers fans are notoriously well-travelled, and the money in Chicago and New York is great enough and the fanbases are large enough that those teams would please Dallas too.
-
I think Fox has to be thrilled with the GB/Chicago matchup, but I think most of the rest of the country would have liked to see someone other than the Bears in the NFC title game. Maybe New Orleans-Packers or Philly-New Orleans. As for CBS, I am sure they knew coming in to the playoffs that any matchup, perhaps with the exception of one with the Chiefs involved, was going to be a solid one. That being said, I'm pretty sure they would have rather had New England or Indianapolis involved somehow. As much as the Jets are entertaining, I don't think they bring in the casual fan the way Peyton Manning and Tom Brady can.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 17, 2011 -> 12:12 PM) It strangely seems like I may come to face the situations described above. Im kind of on the fence about the situation because I have been on the other side and I never want to be that guy. That being said she is a presumably hot (pretty intoxicated that night so I dont really recall, but I do know that my first impression before I was drunk was that she was good looking) Dr. who allegedly told her best friend that she was shamelessly throwing herself at me. Unfortunately I guess I did not pick up on this, or I was just drunk and focused on trivial pursuit. Regardless all of the reviews on her have been positive, I just wish they would not have told me that she currently has a boyfriend and that she is looking for better. Its nice to be better, but now I feel conflicted. Not that anything may even come out of this, it was a few months ago and I was just told this weekend. Although her friend kept saying that I had a chance, so who knows. And that is my 1 personal comment for the last 10 years. So wait, you don't really know this woman, let alone her boyfriend? You just met her one evening and you are friends with a friend of hers? If she is truly unhappy with her boyfriend, if it's not you, it's going to be someone else. The only thing I think about in situations like this is, if she's capable of doing this to him, she is capable of doing it to me as well. So if the thought of your girlfriend being out on the prowl while your relationship is struggling is something you can deal with, then I say go for it. If that is something that really would frighten you, then she is probably not the woman for you.

Good call on the Jets, Rowand. This is why they play the games.

QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Jan 15, 2011 -> 09:47 PM) so now it's all set up. you really couldn't ask for a better scenario if you're the bears. what an epic game that'd be packers bears nfc championship. why do I have a terrible feeling they're going to screw it up. The owners of Stubhub have said a Bears-Packers NFC Championship game would be the most sought-after ticket they've had in the history of the company.
