Plyo kicked my BOOOOTAY last night.
  2. We need to get Threets off the DL with his turf toe and get Thornton on there retroactively to last Thursday. Going to need Linebrink to step it up now that bringing in Santos seems to be like playing Russian Roulette. All I can say is thank goodness for Chris Sale and his ghetto gold.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 11:47 AM) The good news is that's excellent production, the bad news is he's managed fewer at bats this season than Thome. I won't like having a known juicer on the team and I'll feel compelled to make that opinion known annoyingly and repeatedly, but I'll find a way to deal with it. And I will counter you over and over annoyingly and repeatedly, so don't worry.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 10:57 AM) Manny Ramirez cemented his legacy in 2009 when he got caught. So are you only going to crucify the players who were caught? And ignore the other hundreds of players who were not caught?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 10:28 AM) 16 weeks? WTF? Is this a Swedish company or something? Hah, no, but it is a quasi-governmental company (a public utility). Basically we have a 5-week rotating schedule. There are approximately 10 of these 5-week cycles in a year. In each cycle, we work 14 shifts (12 hours each). However, we work these 14 shifts over the course of 3 weeks, which leaves 2 weeks remaining in the 5-week cycle. 1 week is then designated for "training" or "projects." And 1 week is designated as a "long change," which is a built in vacation. Then we get allotted vacation hours like every one else, plus the same number of federal holidays as everyone else, to compensate us for having to be available to work those holidays. This adds up to like 216 hours or so, or 27 days of vacation. You then use these 27 days to take off those days designated as "training" or "project" days, which happen to precede your "long change" in every 5-week cycle. What this basically breaks down to is January through May, I get 1 week off out of every 5 weeks, then the rest of the year I get two weeks off out of every 5 weeks. It sucks to have to work nights/weekends/some holidays, but the long stretches of vacation are really nice.
  6. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 09:39 AM) If we get him, I wonder what our lineup would look like? My guess is Manny would hit 3rd and Rios would hit 5th.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 08:33 AM) Because...what are the odds that a guy like ManRam is going to stay motivated if he's not playing for a huge amount of money? I think he's getting to the point in his career where it won't be so much about money anymore, but about having fun, cementing his legacy, and perhaps trying to win another World Series or two. I think we match up pretty well for him if those are his concerns.
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 09:05 AM) i just wish this would be done and over with one way or another. the longer this drags out the more games the twins can possibly gain. I would like to get him regardless of whether we need him for the postseason or not. I think acquiring him for the last 30 games or so would be a nice test run for possibly bringing him in via FA next season. He might be a good DH to have to help displace the loss of PK if Dayan were to take over at 1B and PK were to move on.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 07:23 AM) Thanks! The wireless sync I'm not overly concerned with, that was a nice to have. I guess what I'd really like is just to be able to plug an iPad into the base station, and have software that allows me to pick and choose those specific files/directories I want to sync between the units, automatically, when I plug it in. As long as that software exists (so that I don't have to write a batch file myself), then I'd be happy. But here is the other dilemma - will an iPad sync with a non-Apple computer for file sharing? Because some of the mapping software I use doesn't work on Apple (that I already researched). Looking at the iPad pages on the Apple site, that isn't made clear (the syncing with non-Apple computers), unless I am missing something. I believe you can with iTunes, not sure about other file sharing. Apple

I'm salaried, and I work a bizarre schedule. 12 hour shifts, rotating 5 week schedule which includes nights, weekends, holidays with no extra compensation for any one shift versus another. However, I do get about 16 weeks of paid vacation a year, so I'm not complaining.

Chest and Back tonight, tough to get up for after working a 12 hour day starting at 530 am, but knocked it out and then attacked a plate of brown rice and some seasoned fresh veggies. Hope everyone is hanging in there.
  12. So a few really badass new things about the iPad...DirecTV is allowing Sunday NFL Ticket subscribers to watch games remotely on their smartphones and iPads this season (yes, there is a $9.99 monthly fee). This means I can watch the Bears (or any other game I want) here in Vegas on my iPad when I am at work (a few Sundays out of the year). Now that, is just ridiculously awesome. Secondly, there is an app called Zinio which allows you to get digital magazine subscriptions (I do believe this does work for Mac and Windows machines as well). I subscribed to Rolling Stone and ESPN the Magazine. When the issues are released, they automatically load into your iPad. This allows your iPad to not only be a really cool book reader, but also to store thousands of full-length magazines for when you're on the go. They look absolutely gorgeous too. Couldn't be happier with this device.
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 02:23 PM) If you go back and see how the conversation started, you will see I was responding to someone who stated that Ozzie was a "stupid human being". That's why it mattered. Yeah, I follow you...just seems like a pretty odd way of countering such a crude statement. Nevermind.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 01:21 PM) Who said that was the threshold for a good manager? Well, I'm just curious as to why you would make the comparison otherwise... I guess I was just confused as to what the idea that Ozzie knows more about baseball than anyone on Soxtalk has to do with anything. My bad.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 01:54 PM) I'm going to agree with Greg here. He's shown to make a lot of mistakes as a manager, and I don't think he should have the job anymore, but he's far from a "stupid human being". He knows more about the game than anyone here, in the overall view of things. Anyone here? That is the threshold for a good manager? That he knows more about the game than anyone on soxtalk?
  16. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 12:42 AM) This doesn't count as a "relationship" technically, but I'll post it here anyways. One of my ex girlfriends (I think she was my second longest relationship, my first ever girlfriend in high school though) back in the day just got engaged. I gotta say after I sent my congrats to her, (still good friends) I honestly felt really bummed out (and shocked) hearing about it. No I don't need any advice on how to handle it, (I'm my own advice.. Naw but I'm usually good at handling business and personal stuff through experience, but this is actually new territory for me) but has anyone here had something similar or maybe just a bit different, but the same situation? Probably my first true love got married about a year and a half ago after the two of us dated a few times, including as recently as 2007. She has never seemed ready, or truly committed to her relationship or her husband, at least around me, as she always bugs me about why things did not work out with her and I. She has even called me since being married and told me she thinks she has made a mistake in marrying him. Gerry, I think you're fairly younger than me, but you're reaching a point where a lot of your exes will start getting married and having children, and then even getting divorced eventually. My advice would be to try and seek a balance between staying true to the person in the way that you have always interacted with them, and giving due respect and space to the new relationship that these people are involved in. It can be tough though if they ask you to cross that line though.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 08:07 AM) Yes but it will be on a LAN including only those in the bomb shelter. I trust you have an accurate and extensive knowledge of the latest in efficient and diverse organic food production. I'd like to confirm my reservation.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 08:40 AM) Watched the documentary Collapse last night. Scary s***. I had put this in my Blockbuster queue when you posted this, and just got it the other night and watched it tonight. s***, you're not kidding. That is the scariest movie I have ever seen I think...no exaggeration...and I'm not sure the part at the end makes me feel better or not. Thanks for ruining my life, Sqwert.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 09:46 PM) There was something in the Sun Times last year that said KW was out somewhere with Marion Brooks of Channel 5. KW might be separated or divorced or just a player. There was some pictures floating around the internet a couple of years ago of KW on a boat with some lovely bikini-clad young ladies that weren't much older than his kids. Buy Oney is just being an ass anyway. Who would think of twittering crap about their father's boss except some spoiled rotten brat who still lives with his parents? Was this on Bruce Pearl's boat?
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 03:08 PM) Elbow surgery for bone spurs though...that's not the Tommy John, that's the kind of thing you can recover from over a period of months, not years. He shouldn't be feeling the effects of that right now. Limiting Sale's innings isn't a good selling point to me. If Sale is going to be a very good big league pitcher...then the thing we want to do is maximize the number of innings we get from him as a starter in the bigs. This year really doesn't count much because he came up well after the time that he'd lose an arbitration year. So you would rather have Sale pitch 175 innings in AAA than in Chicago? So that you can get 200 IP from him in 2012? It seems to me like the potential difference in 175 innings he could give us versus say, Freddy, would be much larger than 25 additional innings we get out of him by holding him back a year, especially when you consider he may get pulled into service early anyway because of injury to someone else.
  22. QUOTE (WinorDie88 @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 03:07 PM) Why just give me a hard time about it? That's my point Ask all these guys. I go after all of them when they start posting with your attitude.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 03:05 PM) FWIW, I saw Jackson pitch as a reliever in the minors, and he was throwing 99 mph consistently. Why the hell didn't they just pitch Danks in game 2 last night and Jackson today? You avoid wrecking your entire pen by asking one guy to move up his start by 14 hours.
  24. QUOTE (WinorDie88 @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 03:03 PM) I know but your comment really helped prove my point and I just wanted to show how grateful I was. Your point is that others do it, so therefore it must make some kind of sense?
  25. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 02:59 PM) Aren't there like 50 other posters you could ask the same question? Yeah, and I do all the time. Where the heck have you been?
