Sox @ Twins, Thursday, 8/19, M56 v The Stache

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 07:08 PM) Funny thing about that 2004 game was Johan started for the Twins. We did get to Johan a few select times...I seem to remember a Garland-Santana matchup in Minny where we got Johan for 5 or 6 in the first few innings...seems like it was 2003 or so... -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 07:07 PM) I really hope Rios has an actual injury, and hasn't just hit the wall. He's not coming close to getting the bat through the zone quickly, and hasn't for over a month. I thought he was hitting the ball hard again about 2 weeks ago. I seem to remember him hitting a few doubles into left... -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 07:03 PM) I swear, my son cannot go 2 innings without pooping his pants. Reminds me of the Sox bullpen lately. Oh, your son is doing much better than our bullpen -

QUOTE (T R U @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 03:57 PM) My P90X should arrive either monday or tuesday, I am hoping monday so I can start that day.. I think im going to do 30 minutes on the eliptical, then the P90X, and then at night when its not 100 degrees out run a mile.. and just keep that routine up every day im hoping i can pull it off Yeah, what you should do is hold off on the extra cardio during the cardio workout days P90X calls for. You can certainly do that on the resistance training days, but ease into it. I did some cycling on the days of the resistance training in the spring, and it does work well to mix in the cardio. Just don't try to bite off too much right at the beginning.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 06:12 AM) Yeah there's only video footage on The Club of him in a room with Kenny and Reinsdorf making roster decisions. That must have been CGI. That is some funny s***, Sqwert

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 11:48 PM) How often do teams dump the salary of multiple players through the waiver process? I can see one player. But this guy is proposing a White Flag. I think if we really wanted to dump multiple players, we probably could...Konerko, Pierre, Jones, Putz, maybe even Linebrink the way he's been pitching lately...

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 12:35 AM) Dumping salary? Is there another trade deadline I don't know about? Umm, waivers?

Sox @ Twins SLUMPBUSTER SPECIAL THREAD 9/18

The thing is, we will get back in this thing somehow. There are still a lot of baseball games to be played, and the Twins will falter a bit against other teams, and we will put some bizarre winning streak together against some good teams somehow. I just can't help but think this past week is going to be the week that we look back on and wonder where it all went wrong. -
Shoulders and Arms today. Felt good to get back into some lifting exercises.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 09:24 PM) Really disappointed by how awful Gavin has pitched in these last two games against the Twins. He was on such a roll, but looks like he's completely out of gas. He doesn't worry about it. Jesus wants it this way. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 09:08 PM) I doubt many Twins players think of 2005 and the White Sox. I'll bet they do, since it was the last Championship to come out of this division. You ask any athlete what they consider more important, DA. More playoff appearances or more titles. The Twins know damn well as much as they take this division, that we managed to make it count recently, while they have not. Also, there is obviously game 163 on 2008. I highly doubt the Twins or Ron Gardenhire laugh at us. -

QUOTE (C_LEE45 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 09:05 PM) you think the twins laugh there asses off at this team? No, and I will tell you why: 2005 World Series Championship However, it's quite obvious that they do play with far more confidence against us than we do against them. I have no idea why. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 08:43 PM) Yes, because nobody else around here has said anything critical. I'm probably the only one, have you noticed anyone else? I mean seriously... But I didn't see anyone else calling out Rock for trying to be positive. I was simply responding to your criticism of him, Caufield. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 08:34 PM) Gee, maybe if you win the Superfan Award of the Year, that will get the White Sox into the playoffs and magically reverse our 4-10 record against the Twins this year. You really showed me...that hurts. And the negative crybaby woe is me let's predict the next awful thing that the Twins will do to us attitude adds a lot as well. -

QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 08:26 PM) Let's give a MUST win game to a rookie with two on................ Ozzie pls get hit by a bus What do you people want? Who do you want him to bring in? I just read that 20 of you think Ozzie is an idiot for keeping Floyd in as long as he did. Now tell me, who the f*** is he supposed to bring in that hasn't sucked in the last week? -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 08:22 PM) Gavin's never been one to be afraid of sucking in big games vs Minnesota. Thankfully, he'll be pitching on 5 days rest in his next outing. This is Jesus' plan for him. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 04:12 PM) Please don't go there. No smart manager would make a move in the 5th inning to try and help his team. The only strategy that can be used in the first 6-7 innings is small ball. Ahem. I believe it's called SMART ball. -
QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 01:47 PM) There's no way Hudson is this good. 10 K to 0 BB? That translates to the NL being no better than the International League at this point. How's John Ely doing? Stop rushing to judgments after 4 starts. If you did that after his first four starts, everyone would love the trade. Ahh, very good point. Very good point.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 07:06 AM) I for one saw something in those late innings that makes me think we've turned a corner against them. Aside from a gassed Thornton, the rest of the team didn't quit and even showed some balls by throwing at Hardy. I have a sneaking suspicion that we take these next two and rather easily. Oooh, I like your moves, Sqwert!

QUOTE (Jeremy @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 11:17 PM) I don't see a lot of players signed at a relatively low cost. We have the 7th highest payroll in baseball, despite gaping holes at multiple positions, because we are paying large salaries to a number of players. The many trades Kenny has made where he ships off prospects making the minimum for well paid vets is a big reason for this. I'm not sure which teams have had success constantly dealing cheap young players for pricey veterans, with the possible exceptions of those with much larger spending power such as the Red Sox and the Yankees. Of those teams, even the Red Sox have placed an emphasis on promoting their draft picks to the big league club with Buchholz, Paplebon, Bard, Ellsbury, Lester, and Pedroia all drafted by Boston since 2002. The only White Sox draft pick from that time period that's contributing in the majors is Beckham. Well, considering that we signed Alexei for basically $1.25 million per year, signed Putz for $3 million, signed our 5th starter for $1 million, traded for Quentin, Danks, Floyd, Thornton, developed Buehrle and traded for Konerko early in his development, and drafted Beckham, I'd say we've done pretty well at identifying talent in FA and in other organizations and acquiring it while the costs are low. Personally, I don't care where these players come from, as long as we are identifying talent and acquiring it when it is affordable. Whether we draft these guys ourselves is irrelevant since we have proven we've been able to acquire them using the resources available to us. I'd still take our core and place it against that of most teams. We just need to get it done on the field.

QUOTE (Felix @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 04:38 PM) I don't consider myself a hipster at all (especially not indie), but it's true that most of the stuff on the radio is crap. I'd much rather listen to music on my Zune or computer than listen to the s*** on the radio. Then again, I never really got why people were always so into the radio. Wouldn't you rather listen to music that you personally picked out as opposed to random stuff picked by a random person, half of which is terrible? I realize you generally hear about a lot of bands that you might have never heard before, but you can do that just from exploring the internet. I used to work for Abercrombie & Fitch, and one of my favorite things about working there was all the new bands they put on our store CDs. So much of my collection is bands I first heard from music in our stores. Now I can waste hours on itunes sorting and sifting through music and reading reviews that I would have never otherwise stumbled on to.
