Yay, Putz is going to come in for the save!
-
Jeesh, who is in Florida's bullpen. It seems like they blow every victory of Josh Johnson's and I am getting damn tired of it as a fantasy owner!

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 08:38 PM) I was at that game. I remember I was saying to my friend (an O's fan) "you need to score now, you don't wanna see Jenks in the 9th" ...yeah. And Jenks was actually $$ that season otherwise. I had a great time in BMore/DC that weekend. Going to have to make a trip back soon.

QUOTE (IamPabloOzuna @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 08:35 PM) oh get over yourself. AJ has been one of the most important players on this team since he arrived. Sure he's not very conventional but he gets results and he's pretty damn steady. You'll be eating your words when he's gone and the stability at the position goes with him. This season it has become unbearable. The only steady he's been this year has been steadily horrible.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 08:33 PM) Sunday game? Actually, I think it was this game...looks like it was a Saturday game... July 14, 2007

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 08:33 PM) Sunday game? No, I think it was a Friday night game. I think he allowed them to tie it in the 9th and then we lost in extras.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 08:31 PM) Looking at that replay, that was terrible fundamentals by Rios. Why was he running on the grass so close to 2nd? If he slides to back of base, it's not even in question. He's been thrown out about 8 of his last 10 attempts it seems. One would think with Juan on the team, we could shore up our technique a bit here.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 08:27 PM) By "dominates" you mean "folds miserably against" of course. I went to a game in Baltimore in 2007 I think it was and Jenk blew that one.

I'll bet about 85% of Alex's hits since June have been singles between short and second.

Nice!

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 08:20 PM) Me neither, but I hope we don't play him until he's completely healthy again. I don't want to see him try to be a warrior. I'm sure Hawk will be down in the Clubhouse icing it for him after the game...

Aj is an idiot and he finally got burned during his antics. I don't feel bad for him at all.
-
Kotsay you stupid motherf***er
-
Nice AB Quentin.

Jesus, I didn't even realize this game was on GN. Now I have the pleasure of listening to the Hawkeroo instead of you yahoos...

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 07:00 PM) Might be? His swing is soooooo slow through the zone. Jim Palmer said Rios told him his wrist is injured.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 05:56 PM) Yes, he was available, but Arizona was shocked at how little interest there was in him. That seems unbelievable considering how widely known it is that he is a second-half player. I'll catch up with you guys in a bit...have to head into work. Hopefully we'll have a comfortable lead by the time I get signed on again!

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 05:52 PM) I don't trust this lineup at all on the road though. At home, I have all the confidence in them like they're the '27 Yankees. That's a good point...We don't hit as well on the road. I don't think getting Adam LaRoche would have changed a whole lot about that. Question though, we really didn't hear any rumors about LaRoche...I wonder if he was just unavailable?

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 06:45 PM) The offense needed new blood, and KW didn't get it done. I expect to see a lot of these performances for the rest of the year. We need to hope that our pitching continues to win the day for us. The offense has been more than adequate over the past 50 games. We'd have all loved to get a big bat, but I still feel pretty good if we can just get Q to give us some consistency and use the bats that we do have correctly. Unfortunately, this little run by Kotsay and Viciedo's struggles against the RH yesterday are probably going to condomn us to Kotsay for the remainder of the year unless we can reel in Manny.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 06:43 PM) Ugh, nice swing by Beckham, but no results. This offense desperately needs some type of spark. BTW, anyone see that Laroche is destroying the ball again? Shocker, didn't see that coming. They look a little better today. Vizquel killed us with his at bat in the first...Rios is hurting with a bad wrist....but that inning was just bad luck. We'll get to Milwood though eventually.

Yeah, Manny has a full NTC.

the comments after the loss in the game thread

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 11:32 PM) But the thing is, this is a reinvigorated team under Showalter finally playing with a sense of direction and urgency. They beat the Angels three in a row and now have won four in a row, total. As we've learned throughout the years, there are no easy opponents down the stretch...teams out of the pennant race tend to play "free and easy," whereas the teams at the top of the standings tend to tighten up. The fact of the matter is that Liriano against an unknown Indians' pitcher, you'd also figure that match-up is hugely favorable for the Twins. There are no longer any "sure wins" at this point in the season. Give me a break. Buck Showalter is a tool and the Orioles are a bad major league baseball team. Reinvigorated? They scored two runs in 10 innings. Unfortunately, we could only muster one. We flat out blew this one. -

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 11:14 PM) "Just can't afford to lose this game tonight..." "will be sitting at home this postseason unless certain players get their act together..." "...that's what good teams do (the twins tying the game)" I would have expected after an uncharacteristic bad loss (one of VERY FEW bad losses in the past 51 games...I think I count 3 maybe 4 total) that people would be a little negative, but are we really this faithless? The team just rattled off 9 of 11 and 38 of 51, and although yesterday was an almost-loss, we ultimately got the job done. You expect a division rival to play hard and put themselves in a position to win...I was not surprised that Detroit didn't just roll over. I'm still pissed at Bobby, obv. Two losses to Baltimore would probably be wholly unacceptable. One loss just isn't, folks...especially on the road. Bear in mind Texas lost 4 straight at home to the Showalter-less Orioles earlier this season...did that sabotage their whole season? Every contender has bad losses. The key is to minimize them. Hopefully we are able to rattle off three straight. When the best you can hope to do at this game is basically win 65% of your games, you're gonna have some bad losses in there. Let's make sure we get after em tomorrow. My comment about not being able to afford the loss was because Danksy was pitching against a vastly inferior pitcher. You have a huge edge in pitching, a much better team, and a chance to pick up a game on the Indians, and you lose to the O's? Of course losses happen, but this is one we've got to win.
