Ooh, I see Johnny Ely is starting tonight for the Dodgers.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 6, 2010 -> 09:09 PM) I think its one of the games that if bullpen keeps us in it, we come back and win. Now that's the kind of optimism I like to see! And if not, at least we have these great NHL Playoff commercials.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 6, 2010 -> 08:57 PM) I'm not sure if it counts as a loss if our hitters had a great batting practice session. I don't know how much I really feel that Walker does, but at some point he has to be accountable.

Is this going to be another one of those "sometimes you just have to tip your cap" games?

QUOTE (fathom @ May 6, 2010 -> 07:42 PM) What has been said that's so bad tonight? Considering how horrible we've looked in all facets tonight, things have not been so bad on here. I do agree that if anyone said game is over when it was 2-0, that is excessive. Come on dude, it's par for the course in here tonight. This offense sucks. This roster sucks. Kenny is an idiot. I want Fred Lewis. Willie Harris is the best. It's 2-0 and 90% of the posters are already anticipating an inevitable loss. Most of them were anticipating it before the Jays scored their runs. I just wonder why any of you do this to yourselves if you're going to carry such a negative attitude into the first pitch. If you truly believe this roster is horrible and incapable of winning anything, for the love of Pete, go out and do something else. Life is too short to spend in front of the tv every night if you're just making yourself miserable over it.

QUOTE (jphat007 @ May 6, 2010 -> 07:38 PM) It's only 2-0 guys, we can come back. Funny. I appreciate the effort. Honestly though guys, you are a miserable bunch. If I hung around this group on a constant basis I would lose all my hair, my balls would shrivel up, I'd drink nothing but vodka, and my feces would be black.

QUOTE (jphat007 @ May 6, 2010 -> 07:30 PM) Having a bad team is no fun at all. You know, with your constant spewing of negativity, you're certainly not helping anything.
-
Seriously? So now we are going to all lament that we don't have the great Fred Lewis? Goodness...
-
It's 2-0 folks...jeesh.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 6, 2010 -> 07:20 PM) But neither Beckham or Quentin had any type of track record of consistent success coming into this season. Remember how many times we heard "If X players performs well, this offense will be fine"? Like many said back then, there were too many ifs and an extremely mediocre offense wasn't out of the question. Well, while they might not have had the track records, they did have the pedigrees. You're right though...but the problem is, unless you're the Yankees or Red Sox or Cubs, you've got to count on guys like that performing well because there simply is not enough money to go around to acquire guys with track records at every position.
-
Well, I know I am a bit more of a glass half full guy, but I like the composition of this offense. The problem isn't in the way the offense was built, but rather that it's two best hitters have been extremely underwhelming. I'm really not that surprised by Jones and Rios. Konerko's performance has been a bit surprising. But if Beckham and Q do 80% of what they are capable of, this offense will be fine.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 6, 2010 -> 07:09 PM) Yes, but only one of them is injured. Our manager had "options", and this was all he could field. To be honest, he fielded the best lineup he could tonight. To be completely honest, so many guys are struggling that I find it comical to even complain about the lineups at this point. Our "optimal" lineup has struggled just as much, if not more, than lineups featuring Vizquel and Kotsay.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 6, 2010 -> 08:06 PM) We have absolutely no chance bench, and it kills us when someone is injured. You look at this lineup, and you would think we had 4 starters on the DL. Umm, we have 3 starters on the bench.

QUOTE (hogan873 @ May 6, 2010 -> 11:46 AM) Comfortable chair...check. Beer...check. Kids to fetch me more beer and perhaps some snacks...check. Oooh, I need to make me some kids...

I must say, one thing I am enjoying about my iPad is the the ability to download samples of books via the iBook store. Usually before I head into work for nightshifts or weekend shifts, I will download a bunch of samples (usually 1 or 2 chapters) of books that appear somewhat interesting from the iBook store. I then read through them during down times at work, and if I find something really interesting, I might buy the full book. While this certainly doesn't sound all that extraordinary or unintended, I've found that just having such easy and quick access to samples of books on a 24-hour basis has broadened my interest range and led me to quite a few interesting books. If nothing else, the iPad has already led me to read several books and authors I would have never read previously (or at least not until a much later date).

QUOTE (gatnom @ May 6, 2010 -> 03:07 AM) Call me crazy, but I think this team is just one big bat away from being able to do some serious damage. Whether or not that is going to be enough to catch the twins is another matter, though. I would tend to agree; I don't even think a big bat is necessarily in order...but until the SP starts carrying it's weight it's a moot point.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 6, 2010 -> 12:17 AM) Alex Rios currently has an .890 OPS; this is the first time his OPS has been this high, this late in the season since 2007. JJ Putz is currently sporting a 2.70 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 12.6 K/9, 1.8 BB/9 and 7.0 K/BB in 10 IP this year. One would think we will start to see quite a few more Rios jerseys popping up at the Cell this year...
