QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 03:39 PM) Has anyone thought that Boras is in tight with Detroit and is actually using that to his advantage to play the Sox and get the Sox to pony up more. Detroit benefits because if it works, Boras gets the Sox to spend more dough or even walk away from the chase and Boras benefits because it either gets another team to jump in (Braves) or gets the Sox to maybe pay a bit more? I have a really difficult time believing the Tigers would play along with Scott Boras to force a division rival to pay more for a FA player. If this was truly the desire of the Tigers, all they would have to do is feign interest but never show a real offer to Damon. Everyone knows Boras needs absolutely zero help in stretching the truth.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 03:20 PM) Actually, according to UZR, Damon's range in LF cost the Yankees 3.7 runs last year compared to the average LF as well. Not just his arm. What are you talking about? Just check Johnny's website. He has reached legendary status in New England and is one of the most sought-after free agents in MLB history...jeesh...I'll give you some UZR alright...

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 12:40 PM) I was being direct, and like I said, I would and have said the same thing to my best friend. I'm gonna tell it like it is and my comment wasn't to an advice question it was to "Haven't spoken for about a week and she finally started talking to me again. Which is a start in the right direction." I'm sorry I didn't lay his head on a pillow and brush his hair back saying...baby it's gonna be ok. It was a shock comment meant to open his eyes. It needs to be done when lust fogs things up. I explained it in the next post...to HIM, if he didn't want to listen he wouldn't. Who the hell are you anyway...I wasn't even talking to you. If you didn't like my approach you should have ignored it. You've talked s*** about me fantasizing about my sig or whatever, then said...I said, to treat women like s***. (BTW Thanks for finding that post. I guess you feel you can just make s*** up, put words in my mouth and not have to apologize.) I have in fact said the exact opposite with regards to the treatment of women. Now you're calling me an assface and saying I'm belittling people like some cocky relationship savant. You've made some pretty direct and personal comments to me and you're a mod??? I was trying to help and have pretty much just been giving advice, sans 1 smart ass comment which was said with a purpose. You make it seem as if all I've been doing is ripping on people. Relationship savant....please...I have like 6 posts in here you hypocrite. Well, we clearly do not agree. One thing to keep in mind, CC. The guy you responded to is not your best friend. You don't know him and he doesn't know you. You, or I, have absolutely no idea how he will take such a comment, how we might react to it, etc. So in the future, all I ask is you keep things like that to yourself, or make your intentions a bit more clear.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 11:34 AM) So you would say the best 13 AL hitters are the 13 DHs on the other ballclubs? Actually, by his definition it would be the 13 best-hitting terrible fielders...

Read the book a few months ago, and unless they changed things in the movie a bit, I just think we've sort of already seen that dog and pony show before...

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 10:14 AM) Coming from the guy with more posts in here then anyone. Not sure why you have such a hard on for me, maybe it's that pursue until you ultimately convince someone thing, but anyways, since you obviously do...maybe you can point out where I ever said treat women like s***. Go find my post and paste it here. Well, my favorite was your comment to the one poster that "maybe she will let you paint her nails next week" or whatever. We didn't start this thread so you could be a rude assface to someone looking for advice. And yes, I am posting in here in the hopes of actually helping people with their questions, not belittling them like some cocky relationship savant.

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 10:17 PM) Dude, I'm married...have been for over 5 years. I'm not here looking for advice. Anyway, I never said anything about avoiding attractive women. I said I agreed with him in avoiding being friends with a girl you're attracted to. I took that as you like this chick and she doesn't like you so ya settle to be just friends. I would avoid that there's no benefit. I wasn't talking to you. I quoted your post, because you were contributing to this ridiculous notion. And oh, I know, you're not looking for advice here, you're here to try and be the man to a bunch of 22 year olds by telling them how to treat women like s***.

Just watched The Hurt Locker. Very good stuff... Is Jeremy Renner not the love child of Mark Buehrle and Daniel Craig? Wowsers!

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 05:21 PM) Mark, I don't live in the middle of nowhere. Women are allowed to have jobs here. The Birmingham metro area is quite large and emcopasses most of the county it's in. A good portion of the state's population lives in or around Birmingham. I live 20 miles outside of Birmingham and there is urban area all the way around it and in between. The Birmingham metro area is not much smaller than Atlanta. There is very little rural area anywhere near this area. Hell, Birmingham was listed as the 6th most dangerous city in America in 2007 and 8th in 2008. Those aren't small towns on that list and neither is Birmingham. In fact, that is why I moved 20 miles outside of the city. Whoa, no, not at all. That is not what I was insinuating at all. I've been to the South, including larger cities like Memphis, and by no means was I equating the South to rural backwoods hillbilly. But you simply cannot deny that traditional gender roles persist much more in the South than in the North. IN GENERAL, roles are more defined and segregated by gender than in the North. I understand that women are allowed to have jobs in Birmingham, in fact, your area has been determined to be one of the best cities to live in for the last several years because of economic growth, housing prices, etc. However, compare an attorney's office in Birmingham to one in Manhattan. Compare a marketing firm in Birmingham to Chicago. I can guarantee you that you would see immediate differences in the quantity and character of the women in the two workplaces. The South is still very gentile, more relaxed, more hospitable than the North, and there are gender roles which reinforce those characteristics.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 04:45 PM) Damon is not gonna win anybody this division. He will help, but that is way overstating his value. I don't mind you expressing your opinion, but I'd appreciate it if you would stop representing it as fact. Get off your high horse a bit, Sir.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 04:35 PM) I learned the hard way, so I know how it is. Just trying to pass along some advice to save some people misery. I think it may also have to do with your geographic location....the attitude you are sharing is much more commonplace in the South, where more traditional gender roles persist. In more urban areas, where more young women have entered the workplace, you'll find it's much easier (and more necessary) to make friends and acquaintances with women of your age.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 04:24 PM) Of course, the 2/14 number might not be right either. I think 2/10 is more in line with reality. Although, if 1/5 is out there, why bother to take the 2/10

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 04:17 PM) Ugh...can't the Guillen's just be quiet and let KW do what he wants. I'm honestly shocked that KW doesn't tell Ozzie to get him under control. Who does he think he is?

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 04:36 PM) I kinda ignored the first line and took him to kinda mean the line towards the end more than the first..."I personally couldn't just be friends with someone I was attracted to." He can correct me if I'm wrong. You have no idea the opportunities you are passing up by not being friends with attractive women...they travel in packs! I have many attractive women that are very good friends of mine. Once you get over the fact that you slept together and it's not going to happen again, it's fine (or that you will never sleep together at all). There are far too many women out there to avoid being friends with one because she is attractive. Jesus, jerk off before you go out with her if you need to.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) It another issue to trade your best, young player claiming financial inflexibility and then sign Jose Valverde and Damon to deals \ during the offseason. Again, they signed Valverde for a million/yr over what the Angels paid Rodney. They didn't anticipate these quality players being available at the values. It's not just about what moves you've made in the past - they improved in the closer position, got some very nice prospects back for Jackson and Granderson, and can possibly add Damon for the same amount of money? I don't think it's that bad of a plan, honestly.
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 03:38 PM) I don't buy the Tigers. It just makes no sense to me with how the Granderson deal would look in retrospect. I hope like hell Kenny can bring Damon in on a reasonable price, and not let the Boras pontificating sessions drive up the deal. Again, it's an issue of certain teams misjudging the marketplace. They did not forsee certain players being available at some of these numbers, and so now they are re-evaluating their positions. It's one thing to make a mistake and misjudge the market. It's quite another to be so stubborn about it that you then miss out on another opportunity.

Dye says "crowded outfield" prolonged his slump

QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 12:14 PM) Does JD not realize that he can't play the outfield anymore? His agent and he have obviously come to the conclusion that they think his career and his earnings potential can be prolonged/increased by refusing to accept a deal to be a DH and take the hit in the short run for the benefit of the long run. Whether that calculated risk is one that will work out or not is another matter entirely. -

QUOTE (Getupstretch39 @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 09:14 AM) Thanks for the reply. I'm 5'11" 260. Most people are shocked when they find out I am 260, they always say they would guess about 230 or so. I have more of a fullback-type build. I'm fairly athletic, I'm one of the faster guys on my 16" softball team )play OF) and still play guard for basketball. I recently started working out seriously again , started a running program to get me to 2 miles on the treadmill (almost there) and I can rep 225 6 times just to give you a quick snapshot. I went from 185 in high school to 225 in college, since then I've been pretty stagnant in my working out which resulted in serious weight gain, on again, off again, bouncing between 250 and 270. I'm getting married next year and needless to say need to get serious again and I'm really interested in P90X. I just want to make sure I'm not overshooting things by starting it where I am right now. If you just do your best every workout, and I mean, your absolute best...not your best when you get tired, or when you start to feel wasted, but you bust your ass til you can't go anymore, you will be fine. The first two workouts will be hell, but then you will start to make major progress by the end of the first week. Especially if you are fairly athletic, your body will catch on quickly. The key will just be to get over the hump cardiovascularly at first. From then on out, you'll be amazed with the results. As for the nutrition plan they recommend, my advice would be to use moderation. Don't suddenly go from a diet consisting of lots of carbs and fats to none. Moderately reduce your consumption of junk and start replacing it with lean proteins and vegetables and you'll start to see weight loss and increased energy. My guess is by then you'll be addicted and well on your way.

Oh my good lord I am stuck on the phone with the girl shopping for bikinis. Not sure if this is something that is worth my time or not. At this point I have been looking at swimsuit models for so long it is simply not fair that I have to go to bed alone.
