  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 19, 2009 -> 06:59 PM) Montreal, Cleveland, LA Dodgers, SD, Tex, Oakland. Its not just the Cubs that have had a problem with this guy. Whoever doesn't think this guy is a shelfish prick hasn't been paying attention. Didn't he attack Eric Wedge? I would attack Eric Wedge too.
  2. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 19, 2009 -> 02:18 PM) Ron Turner is a bad offensive coordinator. Im pretty sure many 14 year olds with a few games of Madden experience could call a better game. I think he's called some decent games, it's just that the inability of the running game to produce anything has caught him off guard from what we did well last year. Hopefully he will continue to make adjustments.
  3. QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 19, 2009 -> 03:07 PM) It's really not rocket science. Small, quick running back -> run outside + sweep + short passes in open space. Which is even more pathetic, considering they drafted him for this very niche in the offense. As for the O-Line, it seems we have always been brutal on sweeps. And that has been made even more glaring when we see how well the Packers have done it over the last several decades.

    Europe

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 19, 2009 -> 01:59 PM) Apparently you were busy while you were there. But sorry, I have never been to Europe and have no suggestions. Just wanted to crack that joke. Hah, that crossed my mind when I read that. Nice one.
  5. QUOTE (scenario @ Oct 19, 2009 -> 12:15 PM) Yeah, yeah, yeah... Another sh*tty day in paradise. I feel for you. Honestly, Wanne has it worse than me. Glendale and Phoenix are really, really hot. Vegas is 100 only 3 months or so out of the year. The rest of the year, the weather is very nice here. I do agree with him about the overcast thing though. It snowed here last December and I was loving every minute of it. The locals out here have already started busting out their sweaters when we're still in the high 70's and low 80's...
  6. QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 19, 2009 -> 01:55 PM) Wolfe is a deceptively good blocker. I don't know how, but he gets it done. The problem with having Wolfe on this team is Ron Turner just not knowing what the f*** to do. And that is pretty unacceptable, considering how many other templates there are around the league every single week, for the past several years now.
  7. Well, we can speculate all we want. I tend to think KW and JR would side with the crowd saying NO to Bradley regardless of how cheap he could be had though.
  8. QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 19, 2009 -> 01:51 PM) I actually don't have any complaints in the pass plays that are being called because it's working. The offense would be dangerous if we actually had a running game, not just with runs to support the pass game but also to allow Cutler to use play action (have we seen that AT ALL this year?). We went play action a lot towards the end of the game last night. I don't know if it actually worked, but Cutler was at least going through the motions and doing it. Do you realize how many third and longs we had yesterday though? And even though Cutler was like 8-11 or something on 3rd downs, we only converted a few of them. That problem is because we can't run the ball, nor do we have enough plays in our playbook designed to get 10 + yards. I really think we have the perfect wideouts and tight ends to run a more aggressive pass offense, it's just a question of being able to do it at this point in the season. Hopefully, our running game will appear suddenly and make this all a moot point, but we certainly have the weapons (especially the qb) to be able to install a more high-octane offense if we need to.
  9. QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 19, 2009 -> 01:11 PM) They already have, the pass-run ratio is like 60/40. They pay lip service to the running game, that's about it. The play calling in the passing game should be adjusted then. Right now, we are still play calling a passing game designed to be complimented by a strong running game. May as well start calling the passing game for what it is - most of our offense - and the phase of our offense that will have to cover the other, somewhat like the Cardinals and Saints passing games.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 18, 2009 -> 05:37 PM) Nope. And folks, right there, that's why Dick Jauron is not a winning NFL coach. You get within difficult field goal range with 1:30 on the clock, you run the ball thrice, call time with 4 seconds on the clock, and you're still facing a 45 yard kick. I thought the Ravens were too conservative as well. They got to about the 27 of the Viqueens with time for at least 1 or 2 more plays and instead ran the ball once, then let the time run down to about 2 seconds before clocking the ball.
  11. Thanks for posting that, Dick. I don't know what it added though that in any way contradicts what anyone else has said. And honestly, to me, it illustrates what SirCaffey has said in that it appears he is more of a headcase than an outright prick. Guys don't seem to dislike him as much as they just don't understand why he is such a weirdo.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 18, 2009 -> 05:05 PM) Did you see that 9ers game? I'm not so sure, but obviously, I think the bears know with the success of the vikings at 6-0 you don't want to lose any games where you are equally matched. Yes, but we've been over this in this thread. NFL teams can look great in some games and awful in others. Matt Ryan is 9-1 at home with the one loss coming to Jay Cutler last year. They should have lost another to the Bears, had Lovie not been an idiot.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 18, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) K...27-23 Bears win...hope I'm right. Not that confident. Come on now. 35-17 Bears in a laugher.
  14. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 18, 2009 -> 04:46 PM) The only reason Brady is out is to protect him from injury. I guarantee you he doesn't care about the Titans pride, which is why he went for it on 4th down just a little while ago. I guarantee you NFL players won't feel any better about themselves because you benched your starters because you felt sorry for them. Oh, I agree. I was agreeing with Balta about Bellichick pulling Brady because the risk of injury isn't worth it. The comment about pride was in response to the posts about running up the score not being an issue against professionals. I guess I should have been more specific in my responses. Sorry.
  15. And even Bill Bellichick agrees, as he has taken Brady out of the game. Paid professionals or not, everyone has pride. There's no need to push it any further than it's already gone.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 18, 2009 -> 04:34 PM) And still, even without the severe behavioral problems, the guy still gets injured and can barely make 100 games a year. I just think it isnt worth it. Nothing to gain for me, just a headache that will not resolve itself. Yeah, I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to acquire him, nor would I trade Linebrink for him even. But if the Cubs offered to pay 3/4 of his salary and take back Kyle McCulloch (or however you spell it) for him, I would probably take the risk.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 18, 2009 -> 04:15 PM) I am pretty sure he was ushered out of Cleveland for not getting along with pretty much anyone employed by the team. Hart couldnt move him fast enough. That was in Cleveland. I don't blame him for not wanting to be in Cleveland. Honestly, you can say he was disliked in Cleveland, but I can point to situations in Texas and San Diego where his teammates were fine with him. Again, I don't know how many times I can repeat this. HE IS NOT AN ANGEL. NOR IS HE THE PERFECT TEAMMATE. What I can say is that he has a lifetime .371 OBP and is a career .820 OPS player. Even in his disasterous season this year with the Cubs, in which he posted his lowest batting average since 2002, he still put up a .376 OBP.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 18, 2009 -> 04:09 PM) I suppose I do, but really, its more that I am puzzled why everyone thinks that he's suddenly going to change if he's here. This is the definition of insanity - doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Its just bizarre to me. So part of it is my being confused by other posters, and part of it is that I have zero patience for guys who make 7 figures of fan-paid money to play a game that then have zero respect for the game and the fans that supply them with a career. I don't think anyone has expressed that he's going to suddenly be the perfect teammate. I do think there have been times when he has exhibited restraint, however, and I happen to believe this would be a place where he could do that. I hate to compare anyone or any situation to the Bulls with Dennis Rodman, but I do think it would be similar to that - he would still probably behave like an idiot at times - but not enough to really derail the team or to overcome the good things he was doing on the field for us. It's truly just speculation more than anything. There is not much anyone can say to win or lose the argument.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 18, 2009 -> 03:39 PM) He's not a prick? Are we talking about the same guy here? The one who has attacked fans and umpires repeatedly? Tried to attack a scorekeeper? etc., etc., etc. The guy is a grade A asshole. I think he's simply trying to distinguish Bradley from guys whose own teammates dislike them, as he said, such as Bonds or Kent. Again, I don't think anyone is trying to paint Bradley as an angel or as an ideal guy to acquire. But he's not quite the antichrist either. It seems as though you have a very particular dislike for him.
  20. QUOTE (T R U @ Oct 18, 2009 -> 02:48 PM) Thats right, there is nothing. As of right now there is nothing that could convince me the Saints have a better team than the Vikings. Favre is producing just as much as Brees is, the difference is the have Adrian Peterson on their team along with a better D. I get the feeling that if the Saints beat the Vikings by 3 touchdowns in the Metrodome that you still wouldn't believe they were better...
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 18, 2009 -> 12:25 PM) This isn't the case - see the comments made by Cubs players just this season. And these are guys who are trying to be nice, and to protect their teammates, but even they had to say some things. I am not surprised that he didn't fit in well with the Cubs. That is a situation where he would be in a prime market, where the fans are constantly drunk and acting like retards, where the media scrutinizes you much more so than on the other side of town. I don't think anyone is trying to claim Bradley is an angel, or an ideal player. But I do think the White Sox would be one of the more attractive destinations for him if I was his agent...
  22. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 18, 2009 -> 09:11 AM) I only brought it up because it may matter to Bradley. http://www.stltoday.com/blogzone/tipsheet/...e-game-of-life/ Hah, I think he handled that pretty well, actually. I like how the writer puts his opinion about Bradley's defense. "And he's a crappy outfielder."
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 18, 2009 -> 09:08 AM) Why do people keep up with this idea that because AJ and Ozzie and others are "eccentric", that Bradley's "eccentricity" would fit right in? Why does it make sense that crazies will get along with other crazies? This isn't the Black Sheep Squadron. Bradley's is well and truly mentally unstable, not to mention violent. Saying he'd get along with Ozzie and AJ because they are also unusual is like saying the raging paranoid psychopaths should be put in the same room as the OCD's and the autistic folks in the nut house, because hey, they're all mentally addled, so they'll get along great! No, they're more likely to kill each other. I say this because I don't think he would feel alone in being disliked by fans, in being boo'd everywhere he goes on the road, in having a reputation as an asshole. I think that would allow him to identify with some of our other players more and therefore be part of "the team" as opposed to feeling alone and alienated. This club has a history of taking in players with poor reputations and for the most part, they have fit in well and succeeded here. Between Albert Belle, Carl Everett, Robbie Alomar and AJ, we've managed to have these guys on the south side for the most part, without incident. Additionally, Ozzie has a pretty strong personality and is somewhat closer to the age of Bradley to where he can identify more with him than a manager like Lou Pinella or Buck Showalter might, and I think Bradley would keep himself in check because of that.
  24. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 18, 2009 -> 09:06 AM) That may be true, a lot of Black Hispanics are in major league baseball, but not as many African Americans as there used to be. Thus, the RBI program. Some AAs don't consider Black Hispanics to be of a similar culture, though. Yeah, I guess I didn't think about that...ultimately, does it matter? Rios is from Mobile, AL...
