QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Nov 1, 2009 -> 09:44 PM) I figured the Packers since the comment was while the game was running and there were about 5 sacks for the Vikes at the time. But yes, both lines are awful. I'm sure he was talking about the Bears line...he likes to jump in and comment when he can, even if it is late and the discussion is over. Even still, the point applies to both lines. They both suck. And I agree, the Vikes' schedule is about as different (easier) as it can be while supposedly being the same as the rest of the division.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 1, 2009 -> 08:27 PM) I'll be upset if we don't go after Cody Ross. He's such a perfect target for us. He's affordable, good, young, and shouldn't cost a ton in trade chips. Trade for Ross and bring back Kotsay. That way we always have a strong defensive OF because when Rios needs a day off Ross can cover CF, and when Ross needs a day off Kotsay can take RF. Makes too much sense to me. Why do people continue to think the Fish are just going to give Ross away? Don't you think they realize he is affordable, good, and young? -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 03:10 PM) I pissed in a 64 ounce bottle of gatorade last night and filled it over halfway. That's a liter of piss for those of you keeping score at home. We're not worthy...

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 04:01 PM) Iowa has been very good in bowl-games. I wouldn't throw a ton of money down on the Hawks if they were playing Florida, USC, LSU, Alabama, etc, but I'd give them a fighting chance. They aren't as bad as some of you say. And I realiez Ferentz said that about the computer and the big reason is because the computer doesn't tell how the Hawkeyes win. At the same time, it factors in heavily the teams Iowa's played, etc, and at some point you can't argue that Iowa has beaten some pretty good teams in some pretty tough places. If Iowa goes undefeated (and I still don't necessarily believe they will), they'd have a resume which includes wins vs Arizona (top 25), @ Penn State (top 15), @ Ohio State (top 15-top 20), @ Wisconsin (Top 30), vs Michigan (Top 30-40). And right now the Iowa State win isn't looking like a bad win either (although the Clones are losing today). Well this is how the Big Ten Champion always justifies it's position in a BCS bowl. Tough wins on the road against other Big Ten traditional powers. The problem with this is that those teams just don't stack up against the grueling SEC schedule, and for most of recent history, the schedule of the Big 12 or even Pac 10. USC usually goes outside of the conference to play some solid teams to strengthen it's resume. I really think Iowa is a solid team. Winning at Wisconsin is extraordinarily difficult. But it pales in comparison to playing the likes of Florida/LSU/Tennessee/SC/Auburn, then you throw the likes of a tough non-conference opponent from the Big 12 or the Pac 10 in there...and man, that is brutal. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 03:49 PM) Give me a break. Alabama and FLorida have looked every-bit as beatable the past few weeks. You want to talk about the teams to watch, it is Oregon and even USC (with the way there freshman Barkley is playing, although there D has struggled massively the past two weeks). Bottom line, to go undefeated when you play as many quality opponents that Iowa, Alabama, and Florida do is very tough. You can tell me how Iowa played Arkansas State and Northern Iowa, but we also played a ton of very solid programs and there is a reason the computers have us #1. Even the Iowa coach thinks the computers are crazy. To be honest, I haven't watched Iowa much this year. The Big Ten winner is usually a solid team, not prone to commit a lot of errors, runs the football well, can get big passing plays when it needs it, and plays solid defense. But time and time and time again, they get their doors blown off in big games against the SEC or the Pac 10 champions. The problem is they get behind early and just have no chance coming back trying to throw the ball against a defense that tees off on them because they know they have to throw the ball. My guess is that will happen to Iowa should they face Florida or LSU, possibly even against a Boise St or TCU team as well. I do think Iowa would hang around against Alabama or Georgia, simply because they aren't explosive teams that will take Iowa out of their game plan early. -
They should really give you more time for that. Almost impossible to get more than 70 or so...I got 51, and obviously missed plenty I knew, but still very difficult. I've never even heard of Cap Anson, the Cubs number 1 hit leader.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 02:01 PM) I'm biased, but not gay. I went frame by frame when they were revewing it because I didn't want to hear the result, and I honestly thought he was out of bounds. I really am pretty good about being objective about calls. I know you're not really gay. Doesn't matter, Indiana is folding again. I'm honestly happy for the Big Ten, but this Iowa team will get annihilated in a BCS bowl if it were to get there. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 12:53 PM) They can go frame by frame in the replay booth. They obviously saw something. I just went frame by frame on my freaking tivo. Doesn't make them right. Just as on field officials make errors, so do replay officials. You're clearly biased, being a gay Iowa fan. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 01:15 PM) A non-prospect, but he's not going to be dealt to Florida for Hermida unless he's a throw in. Fields would probably not work as the main piece, but I don't believe he would be a throw-in either. Fields is still a former 1st rounder, he did have a twenty home run season not so far back in the rearview mirror, and he fits the Marlins budget well. I think Josh would be piece 1a to go along with a piece 1 going from the White Sox to the Fish. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 01:34 PM) If you have a dvr you should go back and see it. As a Iowa alum I was afraid that was going to be the case, but his foot was in the air, he eventually dragged it, but he had already landed out of bounds. DA, go back to about 1:16 pm on your dvr and watch the view from behind the end zone. Certainly looked like his foot was down. I do see what you're saying about him being out of bounds from the one angle, but I think it's an illusion that you don't see his foot drag. As one other poster said, from the side view, you can see the line in the turf where his foot dragged and you can see the dust/dirt fly up as well. Considering it was called a td on the field, and there has to be indisputable video evidence that it was NOT a td to overturn it, I don't understand how you can overturn that call. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 01:24 PM) His foot was not down. That was clear when it was in slow motion. Just because the guy was right there doesn't make the call right. See 2009 MLB playoffs, umpires. Stansi needs to sit down. You didn't see his foot dragging? You didn't see the dust/dirt kicked up from the field turf? It was clear from the side angle that his toe dragged. Mark Jones saw it, Bob Davie saw it, the side judge saw it...I guess they raised a question of whether or not the toe was down before the knee, but his toe definitely dragged. -

How do they overrule that call? It was called a td on the field, the side judge was standing right there, and the one angle clearly showed the receiver getting a foot down. You could even see dust in the field turf being kicked up from the receiver dragging his foot. Again, how do you overrule that? -
Hah, this thread is quite entertaining. Between hearing you douchebags all talk about watching the WB to hearing about Steve's wife's vag, I've enjoyed myself quite a bit. As for the Bulls v. the Blackhawks, the Bulls certainly have a bigger casual following, but I would say the hard core fanbases are fairly similar. There are still legions of baby boomers who remember the glory days of the Hawks, and some that were able to pass that on to their children (despite Bill Wirtz's disastrous efforts to bypass an entire generation of fans (my own)), and we saw this sleeping giant of sorts awakened last year. And of course, as any trend in popular culture begins, there will be bandwagoners that leap on to share the ride. The true test for the Blackhawks now will be whether or not they can find a home in the hearts of the current generation of youngsters, and they have certainly started making that effort (and doing quite a good job of it at that). However, basketball will probably always be a bigger deal in the US because of the ease and lower cost of playing the game, as well as the simple fact that the weather across the US makes hockey an indoor sport for half if not more of the nation. Add to that recipe the fact that many of the world's best hockey players come from Eastern Europe and have names filled with consonants that Americans have difficulty pronouncing, spelling, and remembering, and it's just difficult for hockey to grab a huge foothold here. It is not entirely different than soccer in that respect. I will say that in many measurable categories, the Hawks seem to be upstaging the Bulls right now in popularity, because those measurables reflect dollars spent, where the Hawks have made huge inroads in the City in the last two years, but there are still generations that remember the Bulls glory days more freshly than those of the Blackhawks. Therefore, I have to think the Bulls have a much larger casual fanbase, ready and able to support the team should it return to prominence (and we saw some of this in the Boston series), the hard core fans are similar in size, with the Hawks' base making more noise right now because of their team's high standings within the league.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 06:38 AM) I was only 13-14 at the time, so I dont remember the specifics of what happened, but it looks like he had a pretty decent year and they left him off the playoff roster. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/bellge02.shtml He even got some MVP votes(which I dont really understand, but whatever). I cant imagine many players keeping quiet in a situation like that, he played 160 games during the season and Lamont hosed him in the postseason. I think you are looking at 1992, Kyle...we won the division in 93'. But in 92', he had 25 home runs and knocked in 112 and had a.712 OPS....how is that even possible? In 93', he had a .607 OPS when Lamont supposedly benched him for the postseason.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) Why don't we just try and develop our own players from the system instead of trading for every non-performing prospect of any othr org? This isn't about developing our own guys...this is about buying low on a guy who has a lot of tools and hoping some new coaching and a change of scenery will pay off. The guy also happens to fill a need we have, in an offseason where expensive veterans are probably not an option for us. I'm not one of these guys that drools over Hermida, but at the right price, why not? If it truly could be done for Fields and a mediocre arm, why not? Obviously, for $4 million, it isn't completely without risk, but we tend to do alright bringing in talented guys who have failed elsewhere and turning them into productive players. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 05:14 PM) as a manager, going with Blanton makes no sense. Blanton may have had a good year in the NL, but facing the Yankees, I dont see him succeeding, and thats probably a loss vs. CC. maybe Lee just doesnt think he'll be ready enough on three days to pitch as well as he wants to??? Lee not wanting to go on 3 days rest if the only logical explanation i can think of I can't imagine Lee saying that. He strikes me as a guy who would do anything he could to help his team. And if he did say that, then maybe Wite was right, and he shouldn't have been out there in the 9th on Wednesday night. My guess is this is some sort of gamble they are taking by hoping to get a win against CC, and then getting another in game 5 with Lee.
-
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 03:14 PM) They sure didn't show much ability to hit Burnett if he is on his game so I don't get this all. I think this gives the Yankees the SP advantage in every game but game 5 now and the Yankees have a huge edge with Sabathia against Blanton and Hamels in games 4 and 7. I agree with most of what you said here, but I certainly wouldn't expect Burnett to put up the kind of performance in game 5 that he did in game 2. His downfall has always been consistency, and IMO, the odds that he outpitches a much more consistent Lee are slim to none.
-
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 02:24 PM) Phillies going with a 4 man rotation and Blanton to start game 4. That means Lee only will start in game 5 and won't be available for more than a few innings if it goes 7. Huge advantage to the Yankees. I haven't the slightest clue as to why they would do this. Maybe they think they have a chance to beat Sabbathia in game 4 even with Blanton pitching, then think they have a big edge in game 5 against Burnett with Lee?

QUOTE (League @ Oct 29, 2009 -> 02:23 PM) Mitchell is a fast guy with a weak arm, I've never read he projects as a star defensive CF, he didn't even play CF in college. He's been widely projected as a CF in the major leagues.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 29, 2009 -> 09:57 AM) Victorino has hit 3 homers this postseason as well, and I know Werth went oppo for atleast one of his homers. I think tonight could be a high scoring game. I'm still questioning leaving Lee in to close the game out, especially when they were up 4-0 after 8 and that turned into 6-0 after the top of the 9th. He threw 15-20 pitches in that last frame, and that just seems unnecessary to me when you want him to pitch 3 games in this series if he has to. Lee has been extremely durable throughout his career, so it shouldn't be a problem. He doesn't even ice his arm after games.
