  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 09:06 AM) Look at the site I posted a few posts above this one, there are plenty of extremely dumb quotes from him just like that. That is no exxaggeration at all Honestly, I did check the site. And I found humor in a lot of those, not from the perspective of the people sending them in, but from Tim's point of view. Maybe I just enjoy his sense of humor. Maybe I am flat-out stupid. I don't know. I do know this though, put anyone on television to talk as much as he is required to for as many big games as he has been hired to, and you are going to find legions of dumb quotes to pick at. There is a reason that he is hired to cover these games in the postseason every year though, and it isn't because he sucks.
  2. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 02:12 PM) He sucked at baseball for the Chicago White Sox. Also, why did Girardi let Swisher bat there? He's been terrible this series, especially with RISP. I'm not sure what their bench was like at the time, but you have to do something there. Girardi's a terrible manager. Everything is always so cut and dry, black and white, and so simple for you. Personally, I am shocked that more people of importance haven't recognized this and asked to you make more of an impact on the world. Honestly, stop and think, for just one second here with me. Joe Girardi has been in baseball for like 40 years, nearly all of his time breathing on this planet. You, on the other hand, have probably been watching baseball for 5 years. And yet, you are the brilliant one and he is the terrible manager. Of course. How could I have suspected otherwise.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 11:39 AM) The law of unintended consequences. Nature is so much more complex than what we could possibly know of it, and the interrelationships of animal and plant life in an ecosystem are so beyond our ability to predict, that any time you decide to mess with mommy, you get slapped. Wolves are pack animals, so you can't really look at hunting numbers for wolves the same was as lone animals - the effect is different, as we see here. This is the key point...and yet we never learn...
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 12:50 AM) How dare this thread make it to page motherf***in' 3? Wite? Heads? Ace? Where my brothers at? I'll keep it going. Ladies and gentlemen of Soxtalk. What do you do when a girl wants to bang you just to make her friend mad? And I know what you're gonna say. f*** HER! Problem is I kinda like her. And I would feel bad if I hit it and then I never heard from her again. Why you say? Because I f***ing like her. There, I said it. I'm officially a p****. Honestly, sex is sex. We are all consenting adults. HOWEVER You do NOT want to get involved in sleeping with a girl you actually like if this is part of a power play on her part with her friends. DO NOT get involved in that, you will only get f***ed in the end, and I don't mean in the good way. DISCLAIMER*** If she is incredibly smoking hot, bang her for the memories...oh, the memories...

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 09:08 PM) Its a hard read in places, really tugs at you. The writing is phenomenal in many ways. My personal favorite thing about his books is that, his first person writing doesn't just take the perspective within the confines of the author's grammar. He leaps past that - the writing, pacing of speech, etc. is exactly the way that character would effuse. Its a subtle difference that is hard to describe, but, its incredibly effective, and done only rarely. Enjoy it. Is it written similarly to No Country For Old Men? I don't care for McCarthy's style of writing...I read No Country, but I must admit, it was one of the more difficult books I have ever tried to get through....I did order The Road shortly after it came out, and it's been sitting on my bookshelf while I have read everything else I have to avoid it. I actually tried to read it a few months ago, but gave up after a few pages...I just can't get into his style...
  6. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 10:01 PM) It would be more correct for me to say that he hit better vs. RHP during the years for which minorleaguesplits.com has stats available--basically the second half of his minor league career. Wouldn't you agree, however, that he looked incredibly incompetent when facing righties, as opposed to lefties last season?
  7. Lunesta might come in handy...or then again, you may not need it...
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 09:57 PM) Frankly, at the time, Wise was playing better than him. Yeah, agreed, at the time. This was a very similar move in my view to Torre playing Belliard at 2b instead of ODog. Still, not a move I am sure I would have made. Then again, that's why I don't get paid the big bucks!
  9. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 09:21 PM) I disagree with that premise as well. You can't pick and choose what you want out of the Bible and make a hill to die on, so to speak. It is equal to the sum of its parts. You can't take what Paul said in Acts forward in the Bible only nor can you take what the book of James in sole disgression. Now you enter Catholicism, Protestant, religion in general and at the end of the day, none of them have it perfect because religion is as imperfect as a human is. You just have to do the best you can. The Bible as we know it doesn't even say what it was originally meant to say. The translations were butchered to the point that many of the messages have been completely distorted. Taken literally, or picking and choosing, we've lost much of the meaning the writings were meant to convey in the first place. As for the other discussions taking place in this thread regarding the true motive behind the Vaticans welcoming Anglicans into the Catholic Church, isn't this a clear sign of where relgion has failed us, yet again, in the first place? That this is what things have come to? Political motivations, power plays, attempts to bring in more money? This isn't what faith and religion were ever meant to be about, and yet now, it is all it is about. I don't understand how anyone can put up with the Catholic Church, or any of organized religion for that matter.
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 09:48 PM) I don't care about his personality but he was absolutely terrible for the Sox last year and then b****ed about being benched when the Sox were in a pennant chase. It has also been hilarious watching him try to hit with RISP this postseason. Well, for one thing, he was benched for Dewayne Wise. I would have been a little pissed too, if I were him. Even still, the amount of s*** the guy gets goes waaaayy beyond his performance on the field last year. People generally hate this guy.
  11. That would have been great if Urlacher would have gotten his ass kicked.
  12. I am not privy to everything that Swish does in his private life, nor what occurred in our clubhouse last season, but wow, I'm not sure I have ever seen a guy go from generally liked to completely reviled so quickly (and without anyone really knowing what he even did in the first place).
  13. QUOTE (PlunketChris @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 10:29 PM) I'm still not sure how i feel about Swisher.. even as a yankee.. I emailed him via his website when we first traded for him, and he wrote me back a really nice note. And it seemed like it actually came from him, as opposed to some employee or something. I will always cheer him on because of that.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 10:21 PM) I can't disagree with that walk. I just don't like the idea of putting the go-ahead run at the plate. I know ARod has been on fire, but I still take my chances.
  15. Fuentes throws like a girl. I would not walk ARod.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 08:54 PM) Weaver out of the pen? Hope that means its his throwing day and he can still go in game 7. Yeah, my guess is they are using this as his "side session" and just taking advantage of it. He'll most likely come back and pitch on Sunday, if necessary.
  17. I have a feeling this game is going to get tied up again somehow...
  18. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 08:44 PM) Terrible pitch selection there again by the Yankees. I'll say it again when you have Guerrero with two strikes why the f*** are you throwing a fastball on the next pitch. So dumb. But huge inning for the Angels obviously. Hughes just refused to listen to Posada. Tried to get too cute and should have definitely gone with the breaking ball again.
  19. Just a bad move to take out Lackety there....I think you leave him in at least til they score a damn run or 2...
  20. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 07:57 PM) Furthermore, Chapman's performance in Cuba was far from flawless. He has great stuff, but he's very much a raw arm and even a bit of a project. I remember watching him in the WBC and he got in trouble with the pitch count. He does have an electric arm, but he seems to have the traditional Cuban pitching behavior of pitching away from the bat a bit.
  21. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 04:57 PM) Is Pisa Tinoisamoa Hawaiian for Mike Brown? Hah, clever.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 06:48 PM) Something says giving this guy all that money, having him pitch in New York or Boston with all that pressure, isn't going to work out well. Then if he doesn't blow out his arm, pick him up for a has been and have them eat money. Jose Contreras Jr. This guy cannot possibly succeed in New York or Boston with all that pressure. I have a feeling things just aren't going to work out for either party there. Hopefully Kenny will sweep in when his value is low and we can get him turned around in the lower pressure of the South Side.
  23. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 05:00 PM) Did anybody else get the impression that Getz has a noodle arm at 2B? I'm still in the Pro-Getz/Hope CJ Is Amazing category, but I don't think he is very good defensively at all. Are you kidding me? On how many balls does the second baseman's arm actually play a role? Maybe like 3 out of 1,000? His arm is more than sufficient, and he has some decent range moving to his left. The area where Nix is superior is in moving to the right. Again, I don't particularly love either of these options, but at least Getz has shown the ability to have a clue from both sides of the plate, whereas Nix cannot say that.
  24. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 06:26 PM) Tim McCarver can't piece together a coherent sentence. That's his problem. Oh give me a break. Tim McCarver is an awesome broadcaster. I learn more about how the game is played and why players do what they do on the field while watching games McCarver does than probably every other broadcaster on television other than maybe Steve Stone. The guy has a very solid knowledge of the game, makes very intelligent commentary, and has a very good voice on air. I think he and Buck work very well together. I want to hear some honest criticisms, not this bs crap about him not being able to "piece together a coherent sentence."
  25. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 03:02 PM) Good, he was awful anyway, especially on the games he did. It's funny to think now about the ads they did hyping him as some baseball expert earlier this season. Honestly, who is "good" then? I don't get this. I was thinking about it the other night before this crap with Phillips even came up....why is Tim McCarver "awful"? Why is Steve Phillips? Other than the fact that it makes people feel good or somehow knowledgeable to claim a professional is "awful," what do they say or do that is so bad? And if they are so bad, who is good? I would love to hear...
