  1. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 11:47 PM) Not sure who but one of Konerko or Dye said that yesterday was the first time they've ever seen Jim Thome down in the dumps after he accepted the trade to L.A. he loves it here and really didn't want to leave. Kal, What exactly are the rules regarding Thome re-signing here? So assuming the Dodgers don't offer him arbitration, does that mean we can sign him without having to surrender a pick?
  2. QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 10:15 PM) Ground ball through the infield + ground ball through the infield + blooper over the infield and the Twins get their winning run. This perfectly illustrates the primary reason why we lose in the Metrodome. It's not a baseball stadium - it's a track meet. Visualize a track circling the field, with the fastest team winning. Speed is what counts in the Metrodome, not how hard you hit the ball. Almost any ball hit further than 200 feet that doesn't clear the outfield wall will be caught by the other team, if they have speedy outfielders. The way you score runs is to get runners on base by infield hits, ground balls through the infield, and bloopers over the infield, and an occasional home run. The Twins know this, and have shaped their roster and lineup accordingly. The Sox in the past have been way too slow to win in the Metrodome. Tonight's lineup was faster than most that we've put out their in recent years, and we came close, but still the Twins got their cheap hits and run to win. The good news is that when the Twins move to Target next year, and have to play on a cold, wet real grass field for much of the year, it will negate their speed, and their power deficiencies will become very evident. The batting averages of all their speedsters will drop by 20 to 40 points, and some of them (hopefully Gomez) will get cut. The Twins are going to have to seriously revamp their roster, or they won't be competitive at all in 2010. They will look as bad as they do when they come to US Cellular or play on the road, where they have a poor record. Meanwhile, thankfully, there's just one more game for us there, and we get them for three more games on real grass, as God intended. You make some great points here, but I think you are also shortchanging the Twinkies a bit too. We've only hit 13 more home runs than they have this season. In my opinion, they have been gradually adjusting to the day they will open their ballpark by sticking with guys like Cuddyer and Kubel. Next season they will probably match us in home runs. Even still, they have no business competing with us. Considering what has happened to their starting rotation, their bullpen, and the fact that Gomez and Punto suck against every other team, how are they ahead of us in the standings? Because they are younger, hungrier, and not convinced they'll lose before the game even begins.
  3. How do you lose these pitching matchups? You lose games where you've got Danks and Floyd going against bums. Tomorrow we will lose again to another bum. This team just has no spine. I honestly think we need to clean house. Konerko and Dye, for sure. We need to change the attitude with this organization. I am tired of these mopey, quiet, self-doubting bums who allow themselves to lose the game before it even begins.
  4. QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 08:27 PM) I respect your right to be wrong. This is funny coming from you, of all people.
  5. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 09:21 PM) Here's something to help you out. Take two points and draw a straight line between them. Next, take the same two points, but instead go perpendicular to the second point and then move straight up. The second one takes longer. Rios would have caught it. Admit it. First of all, I can live without the tone. Second of all, simply because a straight line is the faster route does not mean it would have been fast enough. You have no clue whether Rios would have caught it, and neither do I. But in my opinion, he would not have. I respect your right to disagree.
  6. Quentin is terrible right now. He is getting on my nerves just as badly as Dye.
  7. Damn they are lucky. That is about the 5th ball that they've barely managed to grab. That thing bounces under his glove and it could be an inside the park home run.
  8. QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 08:46 PM) Rios catches both balls. It's amazing that everyone knows Rios should be in center but Ozzie continues to put Pods out there. Well, it's a matter of opinion. But that ball was almost 5 yards over Scott's head.
  9. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 08:44 PM) Not true because Rios wouldn't have taken that terrible route in the first place. The point is good route or bad route, that ball was not going to be caught.
  10. That ball was not going to be caught anyways. Terrible route, but that was a triple no matter who was playing CF.
  11. QUOTE (CQMVP @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 08:05 PM) I don't understand how he could have such an MVP caliber first half, and play the way he has in the second half... It's like he's playing with one arm or something. It seems like he runs out of gas or something. This isn't the first time this has happened to him. I try not to make judgments based on emotions that I can see on tv, but it's so frustrating that he just doesn't seem to give a s***. It's as if he is just floating through the last few months without a care in the world...
  12. We cannot get a goddamned break to save our lives. I hate this motherf***ing road trip.
  13. I don't think I ever want to see JD in a White Sox lineup again.
  14. Wow, what a catch by Scottie, one of the few players that seemingly gives a s*** anymore.
  15. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 07:32 PM) It feels like I haven't mentioned it in awhile, so I figure I better get back at it. Alex Rios has a .494 OPS since joining the White Sox (56 abs). that is FOUR f***ING NINTY FOUR/ That is a line of .179 .190 .304 Yeah, you have a definite issue with him. You know, there are 6-7 other players failing consistently on our team. Perhaps you could pay more attention to them.
  16. Damn, these Twins announcers are turning into bigger homers than the Hawkeroo...
  17. QUOTE (T R U @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 05:54 PM) So why not just keep him then instead of giving him away?!?!?! Because he would not get a ring if the Dodgers win, silly. (Apparently we will give him a ring if we win even though he will no longer be on our team when we win).
  18. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 01:00 PM) http://www.reuters.com/article/newsOne/idUSTRE57U02B20090831 Way to trade on finite resource in for another. Since I really love irony, I really love this. It's just another reason why more R & D is required; these things need to be thought out and planned for more than this.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 04:33 PM) Truer words have never been spoken. Actually, they weren't spoken.
  20. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 11:47 PM) Wow, awesome Kal...
  21. Jose has, for some odd reason, been my favorite player since we acquired him. So long, El Titan de Bronze
  22. This is the last guy I wanted to be dealt tonight. I just pray this doesn't mean Dye will be back next year.
