QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 08:57 PM) Good post, iamshack. I'm sick of everyone saying how AJ should be dealt. Lately, he's been our best offensive player. While I'll agree Beckham needs a dayoff, he wasn't going to be a .400 hitter since his 0'fer start. I don't care about his average. He's frustrated. He's not having great at bats anymore. He's swinging at crap and watching pitches right down the middle of the plate. He's popping out meekly. Swinging at every chest-high fastball. Just needs a mental break. Hopefully he will get it Sept 1st and 2nd when Fields comes up.

the OFFICIAL this team is really frustrating me thread
iamshack replied to SockMe's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Honestly, these threads are somewhat needed to express some frustration, but I don't understand how we feel we need to project our venom onto just 1 player with the way this team is playing. There is plenty of blame to go around here...it's not just Linebrink...although I admit I cringe every time the guy comes into a game. Seriously though, I've thrown the remote and cursed out just about every player on the team over the past two games...no need to focus all the rage onto Linebrink. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 09:43 PM) From Cowley's twitter: Are you f***ing kidding me? START?!?! IS he saying that they've been taking it easy out there this whole time? At least he said it. At least he understands that. There are a few guys that don't appear as though they do understand that. It's clear that several guys are pressing as well. Beckham needs a day off. Quentin is swinging as hard as he can just about every at-bat. AJ has to be feeling like he is one of the few guys who even gets hits anymore. I'm not sure if I have ever seen a group that looks so lost out there. For a veteran group, we sure don't seem like we have much veteran presence in the dugout. You watch teams like the Yankees, the Red Sox, the Angels....you can feel that they are always in control. Always waiting for the right moment to pounce. You watch our team, and you feel like they are ready to go home to their wives and kids.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 09:11 PM) Iamshack, Right its a 4 game series. So as I said, if they win the next 2 they are even for the series. I merely meant that winning 2 of the first 3 or 1 of the first 3 isnt that huge of a difference in the grand scheme. And when you have Count and Garcia going against the Red Sox, do you really feel confident in those 2 games? The answer should be no, and the fact Freddy kept it close should be a positive. Honestly, if Freddy somehow outduels Lester, you have to take advantage and win the damn game. Now I think that most people here know me enough to understand that I am not a reactionary poster, I do not come into the game threads and say the team sucks or that we need to fire Ozzie or use the corpseball nonsense. But honestly, this has become disgusting. The team seemingly can do nothing right. They can't win games right now that other teams try to hand them. They can't get runners in from third base with 0 outs (let alone 1 or 2 outs), they can't hold a lead, they make several errors a game, they don't even hit home runs anymore! I truly believe I am one of the biggest White Sox fans there are. I try to stay positive through the worst losses, the sickest streaks, the most annoying crap we have to put up with from Hawk, but honestly, I have reached my limit. This team is simply impossible to care about. I'm not saying I won't continue to watch, because I will. But they lost me tonight. I will not allow myself to get angry again about the 2009 Chicago White Sox. I will not allow them to ruin my day. I will not allow them to make it difficult for me be in a good mood after another loss that they should have won. I'm sorry, but these guys don't deserve that.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 08:59 PM) How can you even say that? It would be great to win 2 of 3 from Boston, but if they win 1 of 3 thats what you have to expect, especially with Count and Freddy pitching. If Detroit loses the next 2 or goes on any slump the Sox still have plenty of time. Its one thing to get mad at players, but I dont understand how you can ever give up on a team if you are its fan. I will be a thinking about a playoff appearance until the magic number is 0, just like Ive done every year First of all, it's a 4 game series. Second of all, you have to admit this is an incredibly difficult team to watch. It would be one thing if this was the San Diego Padres we are watching. But it is extremely difficult for me, as a fan who watches this team just about every game, to witness players make fundamental mistake after mistake. I've learned over the course of my life that when you watch every game a team plays, especially in baseball, you have to learn to be patient, to take the good with the bad, to not overreact and not to take things too seriously. But even the most casual of fans must admit this is one particular team that is extraordinarily difficult to watch. I'm tired of Kenny putting teams like this together only to see them fail to transition their talent from paper to the field. To watch them constantly fail in the most important of situations, even when the other team tries to give them the game (such as today) is a true test of my patience. How could anyone who watches this team right now not be disgusted? It's getting to the point where even if we did somehow make the playoffs, I'm not sure I'll even be that upset if they lose, as they have no business even being on the same field as the better teams in the league.

I graduated in May of 2003 and have not been back since. Oh, how I miss it. I remember sitting around on random Tuesday afternoons, drinking with my roommates and thinking...the government is actually loaning me money to do this....what a great country we live in! Honestly, you certainly aren't living in the cultural capital of the world, but enjoy every minute of it nonetheless. No matter where you are, when you are surrounded by thousands of people of that age, fairly unsupervised and trusted to behave in a reasonably adult fashion, great times lie ahead. Pay enough attention in class to have a clue what is going on, but enjoy the rest of what college has to offer - it's those things you will remember, not what you learned in Biology lab...

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 01:18 AM) I agree,we shouldn't hurry Peavy for this crap team and risk a long term injury trying to win this weak division this year... At the end of the season when we get rid of all the deadweight we have carrying around,we should have a nice core of young players for 2010. We should shut Peavy down. He's not injured. He simply hasn't pitched in months. It isn't risking injury. It's a question of whether or not he is stretched out enough and effective enough to be beneficial or not at this point.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 11:28 PM) Line drive off his arm aside, Peavy is ready???? I think in a perfect world, they would like to give him another start or two. In our world, they probably echo the sentiments that have been expressed around here in recent weeks: Peavy at 75-80% is better than Jose, and we can't afford to squander anymore games.
-
Apparently, Peavy took a line drive off his throwing elbow one pitch before retiring the final batter in the 5th. It's red and swollen, but he doesn't think it caught him too hard. Hopefully this won't be an issue.

Fields playing worse in Minors than in the Majors
iamshack replied to DaTank's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It would be nice to have him on the big league club so Gordon can actually get a day off once in a while. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 12:06 PM) If you feel that way, go to Vegas, cause I'm sure the odds are stacked in your favor. This seems like an un-winnable game, but I hope I'm wrong The Royals are probably actually a pretty good value bet this afternoon....the White Sox are only +115 or so today...

The thing that I took notice of though in regards to Beckham was his facial expression when the first base umpire called him out on that check swing...he had a whiny, frustrated look on his face which made it quite clear he is tired. That is not something that is usually in his makeup. I think he needs a day off pretty badly. Looks like we may need to call on Josh Fields yet again for a few games in September...

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 06:40 PM) No. Great explanation.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 05:54 PM) Cowley is reporting that Linebrink has been demoted from the 8th inning set-up role. Praise Jesus.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 02:32 PM) Wise to the DL for Garcia. The DL is such a farse...what is Dweezy's supposed injury?
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 02:26 PM) Unfortunately that sounds about right. I think we'll win in a slugfest. Jeesh, poor Freddy not getting any love from Soutside Don or Sqwert... Tough crowd...

Anyone have any predictions for his performance tonight? I'll go with 6 IP, 2 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 3 K, W

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 08:47 AM) Of course it costs more right now - this is the natural curve that pretty much all technology follows. And usually, if we are talking about personal computers or blu ray players, there is no need for the government to interfere with the slow progression to cheapness of those technologies (because they are luxury items). In this case, as we all seem to agree to some extent, you cannot just wait around for that to progress naturally. You need to fund R&D, and/or consumer demand, via grants or tax breaks or the like. This is true regardless of where or how you employ the system. So IMO, you promote both. You fund R&D, you give tax breaks to utilities, businesses and consumers. You find ways to make sure the grid can handle various different models, and see what bubbles to the top. In any case, what you don't do, is look at it from a purely large-plant energy production model point of view. That's like trying to build a PC while thinking like a mainframe architect. Yes, the mainframe is more efficient for computing power, but its not necessarily the best model (client-server). Oh believe me, I understand you're going to have the higher costs at the outset. What I guess I am saying is that we have reached a point where the utility can operate the smaller alternative sources such as geothermal and smaller wind and solar projects fairly efficiently. And private enterprise in certainly driving wind projects across the west right now. But to me anyways, the main obstacles remaining are those which are going to require massive investment into infrastructure as well as more R & D, and I would rather pour the funding into that now, so that we may accomplish things on a greater and more inexpensive scale 5-10 years down the road rather than wasting huge sums of money now making extremely minor gains. The time has come where major progress is needed. We don't have time right now to move from vinyl to cassette tape to compact discs to digital. We need to move straight from vinyl to digital in one fell swoop. In my opinion, the only way to do so is to pour as much funding into the R & D as possible now, as to allow for much larger gains later.
