QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 12:19 PM) If he was healthy, which by all accounts he was, then yes And that's a moronic, short-term outlook on the situation. Frankly, i'm not even sure the Bulls wanted him back. He wasn't going to help them beat the Heat and you're risking him getting hurt again. Can you imagine the uproar if he was hurt by being rushed back too quickly? Oh wait, no, i'm sure fans would be happy because he "gave it is all" and "put the team and franchise before his personal health and future" right? His career ending by a dumb move like that surely would be forgiven because what grit that guy showed!

QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 12:18 PM) How can someone defend a quote like this? "When I sit out it's not because of this year. I'm thinking about long term. I'm thinking about after I'm done with basketball." He didn't say he's sitting out because he has a sprained ankle and wants to get healthy for the rest of the season/playoffs. He wants to get healthy for when he's done with basketball. LOL. Or this... "Having graduations to go to, having meetings to go to, I don't want to be in my meetings all sore." What? My God, the kid gained some perspective on his life. Again, the horror....

QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 12:13 PM) This isn't something new. This didn't come out of nowhere. Why didn't he play last year in the playoffs after being medically cleared? Because as has been shown twice now, when you come back from knee surgeries and play, you can't just magically be All-NBA/MVP caliber from the start? You really want his first game action to be playoff basketball?

2014-2015 NBA thread
QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 11:59 AM) There are some things that shouldn't be said. If he has these feelings, they should be kept to himself. He's playing basketball, not football. This isn't a contact-based sport like football where concussions, spinal cord injuries, etc. are prevalent. Not to downplay a knee injury, but what's the worst that can happen? He tears his ACL again and requires surgery or needs a knee replacement later in life? Even if that happens, he will be able to walk again in 15 years. Yes he might be sore, but show me one person at the age of 40+ that isn't sore or aching in some way. I'm talking about the average human being, not just pro athletes. His statement comes off as extremely selfish. It's all about him. Fans don't want to hear that "honesty." He should have said I'm thinking about this long-term, playoffs, coming years as a Bull, etc. and this whole thing wouldn't be a big deal. But when you say you are taking nights off from your job because you are worried about your health post-retirement, well that's a problem. You are getting paid good money to play. If you are healthy enough to play, you play. No athlete is ever 100% healthy in season. There is always some type of ailment. I fear he has gotten to the point where he is unwilling to play through an injury in fear of getting hurt. This is exactly what happened last year in the playoffs when he was cleared to play and decided not to anyway. This rubs so many people wrong on so many different levels. IMO, athletes have too much power in all of the major sports, particularly in NBA, MLB, and NHL due to guaranteed contracts. They can literally hold franchises hostage if they want to. Based on being held out (supposedly not his choice) for rolling two ankles, one of which we all saw on national TV? When else has he refused to play because of some small, but nagging injury? This dumb narrative that he doesn't play through pain/injury came out of nowhere. It's not based on any fact. He's injury prone. That's a fact. He's not a whimp who refuses to play through injuries. That's not a fact. And again, this is the cautious approach we and the media ALL WANTED the last 2 years. And yet here we are saying how terrible it is.

Again, it's not in defense of him. It's that i'm annoyed by the illogical, and quite frankly stupid, response by media/fans when it comes to this stuff. Who honestly gives a s***? Does anyone REALLY believe that Rose doesn't give maximum effort when he's healthy and when the games are actually important? We seriously just went through 2 years of b****ing about Thibs overplaying guys and Rose being put in a position to get hurt again when it didn't matter. "Why is he out there? Why is he playing if he's not 100%??" And then here he is taking time off so as not to needlessly aggravate/worsen an injury during a weak part of the schedule and people are b****ing about it! This is exactly what most of us wanted! It's moronic.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 11:40 AM) Yeah, poor Derrick Rose. We should all feel sorry for the awful situation he is in. I don't feel sorry for him and his millions. I'm annoyed by the constant b****ing by the fans/media on the radio, internet and twitter.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 10:58 AM) Exactly. Even if you think it, you don't say it. It is a five course dinner for the meatball fans. This just goes back to holding professional athletes to some higher, near-impossible standard. And then people can complain when he doesn't reach that standard. Or complain when he's not open/honest enough. Seriously, the kid can't win.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 10:56 AM) If anyone should have learned how to placate the public, you would think the kid who grew up seeing Jordan play the public and the media would be it. He was between 0 and 10 in those years. In his life he's seen Jordan be a terrible owner/manager/gambler/womanizer/HOF speech-giver more than the GOAT basketball player/product endorser. And frankly I think Jordan's legacy is about 1000 times worse if he played in the era of twitter, TMZ, etc.

OMG! A player wants a life after playing his sport?! He's not going to kill himself for the game and the team (the team that will throw him away the moment he's not useful)?! THE HORROR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wait wait, owners and management aren't considering player safety? There's an issue with concussions and long-term ailments that the leagues aren't paying for. THE PLAYERS ARE HUMANS NOT ROBOTS! I DEMAND ACTION! RABBLE, RABBLE, RABBLE! Jesus Christ this country can find ANYTHING to complain about.

2014-2015 NFL Football thread
My buddy and I were talking about the Bears today, and for whatever reason it dawned on me how truly average this franchise is when you really think about it. Their tradition is akin to Yale or Harvard in football - nearly all the success we hear about constantly is from pre-WW2. By the decades since: 50's: 2 playoff appearances, including one Championship game loss. 60's: 1 playoff appearance, one Championship. 70's: 2 playoff appearances, 2 quick losses 80's: the best stretch in the modern era. 5 playoff appearances, 2 early exits, 2 conf championship losses and one SB. 90's: 3 playoff appearances, one early exit, two first round wins 00's: 3 playoff appearances, 2 early losses, one SB appearance and loss 10's: 1 playoff appearance, 1 conference champ loss. So that's 2 "championships" and 4 total appearances in the title game. And 3 conference championship appearances. 7 really good seasons in 54 years. Even including the pre-ww2 era, their total win % is .573. Not great, not terrible, but maybe slightly above average at best. edit: i'll say 54, since this is a wasted season now.

2014 Video game thread
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 12:37 AM) Just picked up Shadow of Mordor from a friend. I'm not a big LoTR guy, so I don't really understand what was going on in the opening video, but so far it definitely has an Assassin's Creed feeling to it. I just beat the PC version this last weekend. It's a really fun game. The story isn't anything deep or crazy, and you really don't need to know much about the LoTR world except the basic storyline of the LoTR movies. Once you get your bow upgraded and you get used to the combat system you can fight 50 guys at once and feel like a total bad ass. I'm hoping they come out with more DLC content because the main storyline is kinda short.

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 11:13 AM) Man, these are some dark days. I was laughing last night, but the Bears are far from being a playoff team. They don't have a lot of picks, again. They'll go in with what, 6? Worst part is I don't see the obvious coaching jumps this year. Every successful team is pretty young into their coaches careers. Gotta hope Gruden or Cowher wants to jump back in. They didn't two years ago, so not sure they would now. And they'd probably want some personnel control, and Emery isn't giving that up.

Let's keep in mind what family owns this team. No chance they pull off a mid season firing.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 08:37 PM) 28-0 early in the second. How can you keep saying this. Lol, alright man. It's all on Tucker and the defense. The unit that no one expected was going to be very good is not good, so it's all their fault the Bears are losing these games. Let's ignore the other side of the ball. The one that was supposed to be Superbowl caliber. The one with the highest paid player in the league.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 08:34 PM) Even though by far the largest weakness of this team the last two years has been the defense? Ok I guess. Not that it would have mattered, but injuries have been brutal on the defense this year and last. But I can't ignore how awful the offense has been and how much the defense has to play and when they have to play.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 08:34 PM) Completely blown coverage is on the coach, and when did Jennings become s***ty? Lol, this crap is hilarious given the justifications for Cutler over the years. For the 15th time, Tucker sucks. Not arguing that. But when you look at the failure of the 2014-2015 Bears, Tucker is not making the headline. That's all i'm saying here.
