QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 03:39 PM) Once again, I'd prefer x100 that they do these previews as opposed to the terrible "Grantland TV Hour" or whatever crap that was. That was awful. Totally agree. They both got stiff on TV. And they can't use the funny animations when one of them says something weird/dumb/funny to break it up. When you're doing real analysis, let Van Gundy and Lowe do it. When it's just bulls***ting about the game and players, let Jalen and Simmons do it.

Official Recruiting Thread II
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 28, 2014 -> 12:44 PM) Well that's not a good way to look at it, as a lot of these offers have contingencies. The rumor for this one is that it's only commitable if he reclassifies to 2016. Ok, but that's still a legit offer. If he accepts, they're bound by it. Furthermore, what does Kansas have to gain for faking interest here? Do they really think teams will look at Kansas' interest, not do their own homework and then offer a guy sight unseen? Or do people think this is some deal between Kansas and the prospect to drum up more interest in him? But again, what does Kansas gain by doing that? I dunno, I don't get it.

I don't get this "is this offer legit or not" stuff. If they offered (a simple yes or no question) and he takes it, that's a legit offer.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 05:02 PM) Are you going to ignore the fact that opposing defenses have talked about the simplicity of our scheme and the fact that we do a very poor job of running multiple plays out of certain lineups. Obviously take it for what it is worth cause it is coming from the opposition but still alarming nonetheless. I actually have not heard of complaints that direct. The ones I've heard are directed more at Jay - get him out of his initial read and he's cooked. Or, be patient and he'll eventually make a mistake. I have not heard that our play calling is too simple and easy to beat. And frankly I don't buy it. Trestman's offense has put up big numbers. Franchise record breaking numbers, even later into the year last year when defenses had time to work on it. Perhaps this is a part of the problem, but definitely not ALL of the problem.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 04:36 PM) I have a problem with what seems to be a large number of 3rd down passing routes that a a yard or two short of the marker. Gannon and Young had success with a system over a decade ago. The NFL changes and what works then doesn't necessarily work now. I find it incredibly difficult to believe that's the play design. That's execution. If it's the play design or play call, then I readily admit Trestman's a moron.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 04:02 PM) At what point do we start talking about Gary Crowton and the fact that his offense had no staying power. I wouldn't be shocked if part of our problems is that Trestman's offense just isn't complex enough to throw modern day d coordinators off of their game. The NFL continues to evolve and for sustained success you need to evolve with it. Of course i could also point to a lot of different little things that we fail to do and that goes on the players for their lack of delivering on the finer points as well as the coaches. I don't buy this completely because there have been some FANTASTIC play designs this year that have gone for easy touchdowns. Play calling has been an issue here and there, but execution is far and away the biggest problem. Jay getting rattled and refusing to check other options is part of that. When you hear guys like Gannon and Young saying it's about the QB, not the system, I tend to believe them. They had success with it. Why can't Jay?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 03:41 PM) Did you see what happened late in the game? I am more concerned about what bad habits Cutler has and if I think that Marshall is a crutch for Jay then I have to get rid of that crutch. If there is any way I can save value and win with Jay that is what I would try to do as a GM because it is much more feasible then having dead cap space go to Jay and I have to invest a draft pick in a QB and hope it pans out. Honestly no, I didn't, because I was done watching that train wreck by the 3rd quarter. But if he gave up on some throws down 30 pts, well, I don't know that I care. Better than going balls to the wall with emotion and getting yourself injured like some other moron on the team.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 02:51 PM) Marshall hasn't played like one of the best wideouts. At some point, you have to make changes. Harder to get rid of the QB then the wideout but the wideout has made his image around the league more important then spending extra time with the team during the season. He should have ditched his Tuesday appearances once we started losing and when he was dealing with his injuries. I like B and I like the fact that he's cleaned his image up but bottom line, we need to make wholesale changes. Made his image more important? Because he called some guys out? Because he does a show in New York on his off days? Jay does a radio show, is that a bad thing (btw, did he show up today?) I don't get why his image all of a sudden changed because he was pissed off at yet another terrible loss. At least he said something. At least he showed some emotion. The coach and the QB of this team look like they give two s***s about losing and being embarrassed every week.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 01:29 PM) Now it just seems like he looks at his first read, if it's not there, he goes straight to Forte, that's why he's leading the league in receptions. What's the point of having Marshall, Jeffery, and Bennett then? If I were Trestman and the QB coach I would tell Cutler if you see any of those guys in a one on one match-up, throw the ball to them anyway. Just make it high. They're going to win the majority of those one on one battles given their size. They'll properly defend the rest of the time. Let's call it a 5% chance there's an interception. I'm ok with those interceptions. At least the ball is getting downfield to our play makers. None of this dink and dunk crap.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 01:14 PM) The fact that some of you are trying to put us to 3-4 is just insane and delusional. The only decent players we have between the Dline / LB corps are interior dlinemen (Ratliff and our two rooks) + Willie Young on the edge. Our LB's are all bad, yet you want to move to a scheme that means we need 4 guys that play the position we are the worst in? Are you kidding me? We have a nice interior rotation and even a solid end in Willie Young (and Houston, while the injury was stupid hasn't been near as bad as his lack of stat totals would indicate). What we need is speed and good football players. I haven't even touched on safety because we can't even think about upgrading any other position until we see LB cleaned up. Personally I want to see Marshall traded by the deadline tomorrow. Lets see if Jay can change his habits when his favorite target isn't there. I realize we are thin at wideout but bottom line, I think that is the way if I'm the GM to try and wake up the offense and send a message right at Cutler. How can he stare his favorite guy down if he isn't on the roster. It will also give us a good shot to evaluate Wilson. I know that financially it probably isn't doable but we could probably get a 4th or 5th rounder for Marshall. I would personally run you out of town if you did this as hypothetical GM. This is insanity right here. Get rid of one of the best WR's in the league to prove a point to the QB? Get rid of Marshall and Jay will favor Jeffrey. Get rid of Jeffrey and he'll favor someone else. The problem isn't the WR's, it's the QB refusing (or unable) to make a proper secondary read.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 12:55 PM) And a 108.6 QBR yesterday. What a great game he played. 7 points before halftime in the last 2 games. 7. And yesterday was so typical for Cutler. You had throws to Marshall that were telegraphed from the start (and obviously were batted down). You had him freaking out under pressure and killing a play before it was necessary to do so. You had the opposite - him failing to find a wide open Marshall on a blitz and instead taking a 10-12 yard loss sack (which resulted in a short field and another TD). You had the moronic fumble that went for a TD. Then for whatever reason he remembers that he has one of the best catching TE's in football and Bennett starts to open up the field. Forte ran pretty well (not great, but not bad) the entire game. But no matter, the game was lost before then. He f***ing sucks. There is no argument anymore. He's terrible. I don't know if it's the pressure. I don't know if it's because he's a moron that doesn't know the system as well as he claims. I don't know if it's because he and Trestman are not on the same page. At this point the why doesn't matter. This is an 8-8, no playoffs franchise while he is under center.

So apparently that Simmons suspension f***ed with their ability to do the previews. So they're not going to finish them. That sucks. Those things are really great commute watches. I don't know why they did 8 or 9 if they weren't going to do all of them at some point.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 03:31 PM) Do the Gollum missions. I neglected them but you get powers that you'll need to deal with orcs. You start off all powerful, but damn does it get hard at some point. I'm finding some of the warchief missions to be a little too easy but also annoying. Basically I just sit on a roof somewhere and pick them off slowly (those without range attack blocks anyway), but then I have to wait around for the mob to leave so I can pick up the rune. I can kill the guy in 10 minutes, then it takes 40 minutes to get the rune.

Ebola in the USA
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 08:41 AM) Funny how most of the people saying 'Ebola? Eh, no big deal', were having near panic attacks about bird flu or whatever that was during the Bush admin. The optimist would like to think they learned a lesson about panic. The more likely reality is something political... It's media driven more than anything. If people feel panicked, they'll tune in.

Technology catch-all thread
Although they are in-ear, I have a pair of these: http://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-Bluet...uetooth+headset Really like them. Long battery life (and uses a micro-usb plug, like most electronics so I have plenty of cords available to charge), they are wide enough to sit on a shirt so it really doesn't get sweaty if I'm working out or doing yard work or whatever. They also sit perfectly over a collared shirt. The sound quality is pretty good, though I'm not a good judge of that. I can say volume is not an issue - they can be loud if you need them to be (e.g., when mowing or using loud equipment). I've purchased a few of these as gifts for people and everyone seems to like them. For $50 bucks they're a pretty good deal for a Bluetooth headset.

2014 TV thread
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 02:37 AM) Loved the show, but that finale was weak. I think it wrapped everything up nicely, so it was satisfying as much as it could be. I still think it was a mistake to end it so quickly and with a shortened season. We could have gotten at least two more seasons with Capone and Luciano. Although I guess I can understand Winters' concern that Nucky didn't have much story left. IMO they could have made him more of a secondary character and the show could have continued with him as the "main" guy but not leading in screen time. Focus on Chicago and New York with the occasional check-in on Nucky trying to become more legitimate while his rivals were doing everything but that. I do like the twist that Tommy didn't kill in revenge for his father, but in revenge for his grandmother. I guess that wasn't really a twist so much as me not reading that situation properly, but still, I liked it. It made sense. Also for those interested, Sepinwall did an interview with Winter about some lingering storylines/issues: http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-watching/...e-series-finale
