QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 02:49 AM) Was pissed about , was confused but not that upset about . But holy s*** is Narcisse just so f***ing boring. Terrible, terrible villain and is slowing down an already slow season. I feel like this show is crawling to the bitter end.

    Boardwalk. Dayum.
  3. Jerry Meyer tweets Thomas is strong to OSU with SMU a possibility. It "doesn't look good" for Illinois.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 01:55 PM) It's an American issue. Is it though? We get a few examples in the news, but out of the tens (hundreds?) of thousands of stops in the country in a given day, how many deal with cops using excessive force?
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 12:15 PM) Brian Billick is now comparing Cutler to Jeff George. Not fair. George never had much help.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 05:41 PM) I think it's ridiculous that it's up to citizens for this. Again, it's a seatbelt stop with a family of 4 in it. Guns were pulled, a window was smashed, and a man tazed in front of the kids. The other cop seemed to be talking and handling the situation fine. Maybe the other cop was just s***ty at his job? Blame the relatively few morons who have shot cops or harmed cops during traffic stops for getting the law on this changed.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 03:38 PM) The man said he didn't have ID but DID give them a ticket of his, and they were reaching in the back seat...to the child in the back seat? This is just the point, isn't it? Basically anything can be justified to kill someone. You fail to grant any possibility that maybe the people in the car were terrified after getting a gun pulled on them. I thought the lady, who was driving, refused to give the ticket, and told the cops to essentially take down her information on paper. Maybe I'm not remembering correctly. Either way, no, the proper and logical response to not wanting to be shot is to follow instructions, not further escalate the situation by being more suspicious. I get wanting to be defiant and proudly stating your rights (even though they didn't have any there because cops can ask you to get out of the vehicle without any reasonable suspicion if it's during a valid traffic stop), but sometimes it's far easier to just bite your lip and get on with your life.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 03:26 PM) Well that's the point, isn't it? She's a middle-aged, upper-class white lady so the assumption is that she won't harm them. Young black guy acting identically? Or poor white dude in shabby clothing? Probably going to get tased, maybe arrested. There's an awful lot of assumptions baked into the way police respond to and treat different classes of citizens, and it varies based on race, class, gender and other factors. Young black men are much, much more likely to be assumed to be criminals or likely threats, and that leads to violent and sometimes deadly results. Oh I doubt it. That person isn't a suspect and is coming to basically ID someone else. In a nice neighborhood too. That, to me, has more to do with this than skin color. Again, look at the cops involved. They're not adrenaline junkies patrolling more dangerous areas their entire shift.
  9. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 02:48 PM) This, for sure. Even if it's not a true 2/3 and 1/3, it should go to maybe 60/40 or something. I do. Easier than pulling phone out of pocket every time. Or sometimes I'll even (gasp) leave my phone home if I'm out somewhere.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 02:59 PM) Well that and upper-class. And what are the odds she would harm them? Versus someone in a car with the windows rolled up refusing to answer questions? I get what you guys are saying, but I don't think this situation really warrants the comparison with other situations where cops overreact.
  11. I'm not going to condone cops going overboard when it comes to people not following their commands, but I don't see how you can compare this situation to something like the one in Chicago (or Hammond, wherever it was) with the taser. The woman wouldn't give the cops the ticket, wouldn't crack the window, the guy wouldn't state his name or exit the vehicle, they kept reaching for the back seat... ALL during a valid traffic stop. Here you have a woman who is positively ID'ing the "suspect" as a handyman and not the burglar. The cops didn't need to "detain" him anymore.
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 02:34 PM) that story isn't mainly about them harassing the black guy, it's about the response the woman receives. That she receives or that she gives? I don't see anything wrong with how the cops handled her either, they told her why the stopped the guy, which again, seems reasonable. I agree with the fact that it's nice to see someone tell the cops the law and not take their crap.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 02:11 PM) http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/local/...is-fascinating/ I don't understand why this woman wasn't beaten and tased. I don't really understand why she thinks the officers are doing something wrong. They're within the vicinity of the home where the alarm went off (a block is well within the searchable area since the burglar could have left), the dude is carrying around a large bag. I mean, if he ended up being the burglar wouldn't we all consider that a failure of the police? That the burglar literally walked right past them? It all depends on what was said and done before the video started, but if they just stopped to ask the guy some questions I don't see an issue with it, black or not. Not to mention the cop is smiling, so it's not like she's was being a controlling b**** with her hand on her gun holster.
  14. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 07:06 AM) http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/10/09/polic...ed-fire-on-him/ Apparently the sandwich fired three times at the officer before he returned fire. The sandwich?

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 02:43 PM) So is it a checkbox you need or so common it doesn't really make a difference as long as you're proving yourself? I know this is kind of company dependent, but trying to get more perspective. My thoughts right now are that at my company it may not make much of a difference, but for headhunters/recruiters it may make more of a difference as they may have a checkbox for initial screenings (moreso for first time managers). Yeah I would think as a general resume/recruitment tool it would be good, but it's tough if your company doesn't attribute any specific salary grade to education/degree level. My wife got her graduate degree because she immediately made 20% more for having the piece of paper. If you don't have that situation and if you think you're going to be at this company until you hit a management level position, I wouldn't waste the money. Remember that 30k turns into 40k-60k+ depending on how long you take to pay it back.
  17. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 12:18 PM) A lot of people like texting/messaging while watching videos. That's the main use for it on mobile. I use it for that and checking email. I also like to pull up my calculator or a sticky note on top of the email I'm reading. I didn't think I'd use it as much as I do.

  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 05:00 PM) don't use IE? Although I am using it and it works fine (I have to). What version? I had to drop Chrome because I kept getting these resolving host errors that were driving me nuts. I couldn't figure it out. I just switched soxtalk.com to compatibility view and it seems to have fixed it.
  22. Does anyone else have a problem with the text not wrapping properly in the post box? Every sentence goes on and on to the right like it's written in notepad. It doesn't wrap down to fit the size of the box. Fast reply box is fine, but the normal reply box is not working right (on IE). Any ideas?
  23. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 04:25 PM) I think just the opposite of Illinois. They need to make their past a bigger deal. They should point to those "5 BANNERZ!!!". They had the greatest CFB player ever play at their school. There's also Dick Butkus, Kevin Hardy, Simeon Rice etc. This is a school that doesn't appreciate it's history at all. I realize it wouldn't be much more than a historical footnote now, and that's fine, but you would even realize Illinois had a history talking to just about anyone, fans or not. Not saying we should return to a national power even, but marketing sucks from making illinois look like anything but a doormat. That's even when we do win. 100% agree with this. For whatever reason, the admin at Illinois does not like the football program. They've thrown some money at it, but not as much as they should. How does Butkus not have a statue? How is it that he and Rice and Hardy are not pimped non-stop at every game? And that sucks, because fans show up when they are a good team. Illinois isn't a great program, but they have more BCS bowl bids than the majority of Big Ten teams. So, there's that at least. They've been too boom or bust in the last 20 years. Definitely need more consistency. But both Turner and Zook showed you recently that you CAN win if you can get quality players into the program.
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 02:17 PM) Because these absolutes are just nonsense in sports, especially football, where plenty of worse teams than this one have gone on runs and won super bowls. Things can change so quickly in the NFL. It is impossible for anyone to make an absolute judgment like that after 5 games. Or 5 seasons.... oh wait, let's start the excuse train. 1) offensive line, 2) coaching, 3) defense, 4) receivers, 5) injuries, ....
  25. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 01:51 PM) Part of me thinks he's somewhat trolling Illinois fans and loving the social media buzz and he'll end up picking OSU, and may have known this for a long time. Hopefully I'm wrong. Agree 100%. His mom seemed to really like Groce though. Too bad that doesn't mean much.
