  1. This camera man is crazy. And why is he allowed in there?
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 10:52 AM) The initial one had it as indeterminate. Like I said above, though, Wilson (through 'sources') says that he shot Michael in the hand at close range during the initial struggle. So the wound to his hand doesn't say anything about what happened after he ran. What the forensics can't tell you, as far as I understand it, is the order of the wounds. It's just as plausible that he was raising his hands or in the process of raising his hands, Wilson shot him again, and then he dropped his hands as a reaction to that. Or, again, going by the 'sources' Wilson account, Wilson claims that Michael had one arm to his chest and one arm out to the side. The autopsy reports really just don't rule out a number of plausible scenarios, both good and bad for Wilson. On the balance, I have to imagine that's good for Wilson since the state needs to prove the plausibility of his guilt to the GJ, and indeterminate evidence doesn't help them. That pathologist is talking about a wound to the arm though, not just the hand. I'm sure the entry/exit angle on the arm is going to show in what position it was in, i.e. up in the air, faced toward the shooter. But yeah, it's not the whole story but another piece that appears to lend support to Wilson's version.
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 10:19 AM) Not seeing that: I don't think either side disputes a struggle in the car, so that's nothing new. What's meant by "relatively short range" is critical, but Wilson's story is that he fired two shots during the struggle and believes he hit Michael in the hand before he turned and ran. I don't think that shots during the initial struggle was disputed, so this supports Wilson's story up to this point but it doesn't provide justification for what happened after Michael ran. Same story for the last part. Brown being shot in the head while falling forward or lunging is consistent with both sides. That conclusion can just as easily support falling forward due to several gun shots as it supports him running at Wilson head first. edit: I really don't see any new information here at all, or anything that differs from the first autopsy done a couple of months ago. The part about the forensics not matching someone with his hands up in the air, palms towards the shooter? Maybe that was reported in the med. examiner's report, I don't remember.
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 09:47 AM) You are naive when it comes to top prospects. It is way higher than that. If it involves the top few prospects, that's about 5% of the time.
  5. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 09:44 AM) I don't think coaches are involved at all anymore, or in an extremely limited basis. I do however think handlers and boosters get dirty all the time, and that may or may not be encouraged by the head coach. I'm sure most coaches don't get in the way of that as long as they can trust the booster to do it the right way and not get caught. But not getting caught is too difficult. Ok recruit, this booster is going to give you 50k. How does that stay hidden? Back in the day people would say, oh hey, that player drives a pretty fancy car for being a student. But that stuff can't happen anymore with the social media presence these guys have. They're too big on campus for that stuff to be kept under the rug. I can see shenanigans in the various summer league circuits. I can see a boosters giving money to a family member and that potentially staying quiet, but in very limited situations. But the crap about Anthony Davis and his family getting 200k? I don't buy it. Someone would have seen a weird purchase at some point and then it gets tweeted or emailed or whatever and a fan base will go crazy. Look at how fan bases follow recruiting, and you really think that stuff will go unnoticed? Also, the coach has to be involved. How else is the recruit going to (1) meet the booster, (2) have the "donation" be a part of the recruiting pitch? If they're not involved it's a situation where they know something is going down and they actively choose not to be a part of it but also not stop it, which is still cheating. Plausible deniability isn't a defense.
  6. Sounds like the autopsy backs up Wilson's account: http://stlouis.cbslocal.com/2014/10/22/new...ael-brown-case/ Not that the truth will matter at this point.
  7. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 08:38 AM) Isn't every program "cheating"? I am not a big college sports fan other than watching to see guys that might play professionally. My perspective is different because of that fact. If I were a fan of a college team, I'd want them to land the best players possible and not really care how they got there. I am pretty sure any consistently good program is doing something that breaks the so-called "rules". I must be naïve. I think like 5% of the time there's cheating going on. Maybe a higher percent on fringe-violations/shaddy stuff, like giving an AAU coach or uncle a job in a program. But straight up cash and gifts? No way. Too much social media coverage and the penalties are too stiff. If I were a coach there's no way in hell I'm chancing losing millions in salary on an 18 year old keeping something like money secret.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 02:01 PM) I would believe it if Tommy found out from other people what had happened, but like I said before, the timeline is like 5-7 years off for that to end up being Tommy, so I'm hoping it's not. What about Teddy Schroeder, or I guess, Teddy Thompson? He would be 17 years old at this point, and Nucky hasn't seen him since he was 10. Margaret says in S05E04 that Teddy is about to graduate from Industrial School. Maybe he just graduated and now has time to go find his dad? And maybe this is who Nucky will leave his business to? No business left though.
  9. Lol, this kid is on his phone 24/7. He tweeted out for people to chill out because his announcement hasn't started yet. Also, as much as I like the 24/7 sports site and recruiting insight, those guys are kinda dickish for spoiling a kid's announcement. Even if it is being leaked to the 3% of fans that follow twitter by the minute before an announcement is made.
  10. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 01:49 PM) Get your eyes off my paper Ha yeah that was eerily similar. And Bragg we have no shot at. Not with Kentucky and Kansas calling. Relationships mean dick when you go visit those places and see the dorms and whatnot (oh, and the winning).
  11. Well, except for Bragg, which I won't follow at all, this season's recruiting is done. A good class, not a great one, but got some much needed 4 star quality players. Assuming we get Paul back and he stays out of trouble, the arrow is still pointing up for Illinois. Now they have to get into the tournament and make a run so that recruits can also be sold on winning. As for Thomas, enjoy playing with your buddies and the 5,000 basketball fans that show up to TAM games.
  12. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 12:42 PM) He still hasn't heard anything official, which is crazy that nobody actually knows yet. Pushed back to 2pm, I wonder if that means he's contacting coaches now or what. I think that's the point though - the lack of hearing about anything. If it were going to be a surprise at this point, someone would know.
  13. Well that was fun for a bit. Still a great class for not winning anything yet. Jerry Meyer I'm now at a point where I will be shocked if it isn't Texas A&M for Elijah Thomas. http://t.co/j38XukWFL9

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 08:13 AM) Given that Gillian is re-entering the picture, I could see the kid still turning out to be Tommy. Although if it was him, it doesn't make much sense why he hasn't just killed him already if that's his plan. The problem with this theory is that Richard would have had to tell Tommy what happened to his dad. I think from what we've seen of Richard/Tommy, he was protecting Tommy as much as possible from that world. Especially after the massacre at Gillian's brothel/whorehouse.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 10:44 AM) Man you guys drive yourselves crazy over this stuff. Yep. And I keep saying I won't get invested but I do. Illinois bball is easily my #1 sport. They were a good to great program from the time I was a kid up to the time I was out of college. I've seen the mountaintop twice and like a heroin junky I need more more more.
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 10:57 AM) Not running the ball in the first half was very confusing. Especially on that third and 1 in that first drive. The defense had a nice series to give the ball back to the offense and we just squandered that chance. Of course, the Dolphins then drive the length of the field and score. That one to me is a little excusable. It's the first drive. You're setting up the tempo of the game. 3rd and 1 the defense is expecting a run, so a bomb there (1) has a decent chance of connecting and (2) regardless of success, it's going to open the field a little more. Also this from that article: Just not good enough.
  17. Now Aaron Jordan with a cryptic tweet. Either the Jordans, who are friends of Thomas, know something, or they're just hoping and playing along with the rest of us.
  18. Example: the Rob Jordan tweets last night. He must know something! He's going to Illinois!
  19. Is he really doing THAT much? Or are fans, Illinois fans especially, just coming to their own conclusions? The whole process has played out like Lost. The show is what it is, the fans have created a million theories to go along with it.
  20. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 11:21 AM) I am glad that, when asked to sign a non-compete, our entire department said "lol no" and we never heard about it again. eta: that's actually a great example of how collective bargaining/action can even help skilled white-collar professionals! eta2: also, all of the mandatory arbitration clauses that are becoming more and more standard in employment contracts that effectively bar access to the real courts need to go The only issue I have with it is the lack of access to a jury and in some cases it's not "public" when you want it to be public. But for 99% of these cases, you're talking low amounts of money involved, so is it cost effective to clog up court systems? In arbitration you're getting either old judges or really seasoned attorneys who probably know just as much if not more than current judges on the bench. Or, both parties get to select their own arbitrator (fellow attorney), who then independently selects a third. Again, usually an old judge or old seasoned attorney. It's a very fair process that does away with a lot of the technical requirements of a trial in court, but still has enough of a process to be legit. I mean it's still a trial - you present a case, put witnesses on the "stand," etc, you're just doing it in a large conference room instead of a courtroom. It's also more efficient since a lot of evidentiary rules are relaxed, usually to a Plaintiff's benefit. Most of the contracts I've seen and worked on that deal with mandatory, binding arbitration are at low levels. For example auto insurance policies might have mandatory arbitration that's binding up to $50k, but not binding for anything above $50k. Cook County municipal cases (anything less than $55k) has mandatory arbitration as well, although it's not binding if the parties don't want it to be. Most if not all county court systems have similar mandatory arbitration programs for cases under X amount.
  21. Derrick hasn't looked this good since that hawks game 1. Huge lift on his shot. Great to see, especially late in this game.
  22. I know it's way early, but the Bulls haven't looked good at any point in the preseason. The 2nd unit is incredibly sloppy
  23. It's not really an agenda, just an opinion I feel strongly about. I'm glad people have finally reached the point where he doesn't get yet another excuse. He is what he is, the Bears are what the Bears are: totally mediocre. And it sucks. I thought they were a contender going into the season.
  24. QUOTE (daa84 @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 04:53 PM) cutler bailed on his radio show today. Instead Kyle long was on the air and apologized for his words. Polar opposites as people. Cutler is such a classless f***. I'm so sick of him. Not really surprising. He was going to get ripped by the fans.
  25. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 02:49 PM) First of all, the HC calls the freaking plays. If you don't think that has an impact on turnovers, umm, well ok. Secondly, you have no clue if this is the case, you're just guessing based on Jay dumping it off to Matt a lot. You have no idea if that is Jay making that decision, or if Forte is the primary receiver on those routes. Obviously on the screens where Jay throws it at Forte's feet we know what was going on there, but otherwise, where Jay is going with the ball is dependent on the reads he makes. How on earth can play calling lead to a turnover? It's Trestman's fault when Cutler throws it into triple coverage? The HC/OC calls a run play or a pass play. It's up to the QB to pass the ball, throw it away, take the sack, etc. Yes, you can call stupid plays that are riskier than others, but ultimately your franchise, 54 million dollar QB should be making the right decision even with a difficult play call.
