  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 12:46 PM) Sure, they can, but do you want that reputation as a team? The answer is typically no. Even Cleveland eventually agreed to a S&T for LBJ. Not sure it had much to do with reputation so much as at least you get SOMETHING for the guy. You know the guy is leaving regardless of what you do, so why not get at least some pennies back.
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 12:58 PM) The IRS had a six-month retention policy on emails. It changed that somewhat recently. I don't know if the old retention policy violated any sort of legal requirements such as FOIA. I've seen conservatives in the comments section on sites like Volokh saying it did, but no actual citation. I don't know what other federal agency retention policies are or were. Saving every email of all 90,000 employees is not the same thing as saving tax records. Wasn't that 6 month policy only limited to non-work emails? I thought I read that work emails and non-work emails, or important work emails v. non-important work emails, were supposed to be kept longer and it was up to the discretion of the employee.
  3. So I know nothing about soccer, but on a scale of 1-10, how surprising is it that the US advanced? 1 being not at all, 10 being shocked beyond belief. A 6? 7?
  4. The flopping is so pathetic in soccer. Lebron and Wade and half the Pacers would fit right in.
  5. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 11:11 AM) I understand, all I'm trying to say is going for big name FA is overrated, really, only LeBron right now is the big name player that can instantly make you a contender. Anthony to me just isn't a player that'll lead you to a championship. Great scouting and elite player development is the way to go. Hence why Noah and Thibs are f***ing morons for not wanting to tank this year. It would have been a perfect opportunity to get a good lottery piece going forward. Instead we can all brag about coming in 2nd in the division and bowing out in the 1st round.
  6. So, this is what a good soccer team looks like, huh?
  7. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 11:00 AM) It would be cool that instead of going through the routine 'try and grab a hot FA' thingy most clubs do, we should try and emmulate what SA does. They never make 'splashy' moves but somehow the way they run their organization, they're always contending, and to think that the main cog piece in that machine was picked in the 90s... Easier to do when you drafted the 4th or 5th best player to ever play the game. They've made some amazing draft picks/trades (Parker, Manu, Leonard) sure, but Duncan has been the foundation for 15 years.
  8. Zach Lowe also pointed out that he's refusing to re-sign with anyone, so he's basically an expiring contract, hence the deal that was made.
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 10:39 AM) Yup. I'm sick of standing pat. Honestly, for the 2010 and 2014 FA classes (assuming they strike out again), i'm really not sure what you want the Bulls to do. If Noah and Rose are untradeable, nothing else on the roster is as good as what other teams have to offer. It's just not. What would you have them do? You can scap the entire team to sign Melo to a max deal and he could still stay in NY for more money. What assets do the Bulls have that would be better than what the Warriors are reportedly offering for Love? Should they pull and Isaiah and start trading away the next 2-3 1st rounders?
  10. It's a possibility IF Lebron is willing to leave. Howard, Lebron and Melo in Houston. It's not gonna happen, but it's possible. edit: i'm stealing this idea from Simmons off twitter btw. Not something I came up with out of the blue.
  11. Frankly for those that though the Bulls were going to get things done without an issue, you've set yourself up for disappointment. The Bulls can only do so much. Players have to want to come here. For example, Melo, say there's a sign and trade possibility. If Houston offers Harden, Lin and someone else, what can the Bulls offer that would be better than that? Nothing. Done. End of story. Who can the Bulls offer that's better than Thompson for Love? No one.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 07:30 AM) Eh, let's see what protections are on it. I thought I read last night its lottery protected.
  13. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 07:41 PM) Sorry read my edit.Melo was a better prospect than either of Parker or Wiggins IMO. Gotcha.
  14. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 07:25 PM) By the way, taking Exum at #1 would be the most Cavs thing ever. He's basically an Australian high schooler. While they're not exactly the second coming of Lebron and Anthony, it would be downright silly to pass on those guys for Exum. I agree, however, in terms of value that you get, he's still a really good get at 4, coupled with what you could get 6-8 picks later.
  15. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 07:35 PM) And Durant was wayyy too skinny and Anthony was never going to develop an offensive game. How laughable in retrospect but the very same articles were there. It's easy to forget when they become allstars. While Wiggins didn't live up to expectations I'd still say those same expectations are a big part of the hype he's getting. I'd argue Jabari lived up to the hype but that's me. If you really believe that people think this is the best draft has little to do with the potential superstardom I don't know what to tell you. Take Wiggins and Parker out and replace them with depth like two Aaron Gordon clones and you'd laugh at someone saying that. Nooooo chance. Rose's stock rose way to say that I don't remember reading any articles that Melo was going to have troubles scoring the ball. He was all about offense, just like he was at Syracuse.
  16. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 07:04 PM) I wouldn't go this far either. Is there anyone you REALLY like outside of the top-8? Admittedly I don't know much about Saric, but I wouldn't be thrilled taking Harris, Stauskas, McDermott et al in the top-5. Coupled with one of Embiid or Exum, yes, absolutely. Keep in mind too the rumor, at least with Orlando, is Afflalo is included too. IMO that's an absolute no-brainer of a trade. You get a legit high level prospect, a good contributor prospect, and a veteran.
  17. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 05:47 PM) That would require knowing Embiid is even there at 4. So you are now trading one of the best wing prospects of all-time for a player you don't even know you'll get. And if you do get him contingently, his career might be over before it even begins. This is simple for the Cavs. They have a nice spot at one where they can't possibly go wrong with. No, they aren't. That infers Exum has a shot at going above Parker or Wiggins which there isn't. The Cavs wanted a late workout with him today and he's in play at 1. He's 18 years old. Analysts say he's #1 worthy, that's how good he could be. Edit: Furthermore they COULD get it wrong. They could take Embiid and be stuck with a broken player like Oden. Wiggins could be crazy athletic but never have the skill to really be an all star. Parker could have a ceiling and one of the other three could end up being an all-timer. Exum could be an absolute bust. There's no sure thing here. They could easily take one guy and watch one or more of the other 3 end up being better. Edit 2: it being a deep draft also helps. Getting two top ten picks in this draft is like getting 2 top 5 picks in normal drafts. That's huge.
  18. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 05:23 PM) That's a horrific deal for one of the two of the best wing prospects of all time. But yeah it is Cleveland. Seriously though, it's the single most valuable draft pick in 11 years. You better get a superstar back if you are trading it. ???? Picks 1-4 in this draft are a crapshoot. If you can stay in that top 4 AND pick up another lottery pick, you do that in a heartbeat.
  19. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 04:59 PM) Something I just read reminded me that Bill Maher did, in fact, lose his soap box for a while and went from network television to cable pay channels. And how about the Dixie Chicks being kicked off of most of the radio and out of a lot of record stores for daring to criticize Bush? He lost his ABC show because he called terrorists "warriors" shortly after 9/11 and specifically said the 9/11 hijackers weren't cowards by flying a plane into the WTC, whereas our troops WERE cowardly for lobbing missiles from hundreds of miles away. He didn't get fired for calling some woman a c*** or some homosexual a f**. Dixie Chicks too were more political, not social, in context.
  20. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 04:50 PM) Random question, but how do you guys know the ages of the children these people are bringing to the movies?Do they announce it as they sit, or do you ask them? It's not difficult to distinguish between a kid that's say 8, 12 or 16. I bet I could peg a kid under 13-14 with pretty high accuracy. I'm sure most people could. Not only by how old they look but how they talk and move around.
  21. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 03:33 PM) Where are you seeing this? I see where he says it'd be a great fit, and that a Curry/Love combo would put them in the running for Lebron, nut nothing about a deal being essentially done. Simmons' podcast yesterday.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 02:59 PM) I think the Bulls work out a trade for Love tomorrow night and everyone wins. Melo can say he was seriously considering the Bulls when he's at his Knicks press conference, getting him off the hook for saying it's not about the money, when it was about the money, and we will get to hear Lebron say he was really, really interested in joining DRose. The Bulls still get their guy and the other guys can claim they would have seriously considered playing for less in order to win with the Bulls. It will also save all of us Bulls fans from the usual just missed we seem to have been now programmed to expect with Gar/Pax. If you believe Chad Ford's sources, he's going to be a Warrior. The deal is essentially done. Love for Lee/Thompson has been agreed to. They're haggling over add-ons to the deal, not the major pieces. There's a chance someone acts dumb and changes their mind, but they're like 80% there.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 02:49 PM) That is a good question. I would think they could. Yeah I would think so too.
